The food may be great, but I wasn't willing to wait any longer for it. When I arrived, my first hint that I should have turned around was a packed dining room and a throng of people outside, only a few of which had food. It took us 15 minutes to place our order (we were the 6th group back). We located several unoccupied tables, but they were all piled high with dirty dishes and trash. People were having to bus their own tables and since there isn't any place to put trash, they were piling it up on unoccupied tables. We excavated a table for ourselves (piling that trash on the last remaining table) and started our wait. About 15 minutes into our wait, an employee came around to each table to ask if they were still waiting for food or if their order was complete. 15 minutes later there were still tables ahead of us without food, so we gave up. We got our money back, but there wasn't even an apology from the manager. I don't know what was going on, but I highly recommend you avoid it if you'd like your food in less than an hour. read more

I've been to this place about 3 times because it's probably the best burger joint in Northern VA. The atmosphere is very nice and the people that work there are nice too. This place always seems to be jumping, so I decided to give them a try. You walk in and immediately hit the register to place your order. They have a good variety of food items to select from but of course I came for a burger. I ordered the cheesy bacon burger meal and I think it cost me around 12 or 14 bucks. Don't expect your Mickey ds or B.k. prices here. I also got some fries and a root beer float (this came with my meal). It takes about 10-15 minutes for your order to come out so you can grab a seat and the server will find your table with the number they give you. My root beer float was unique-- it came with an old school root beer bottle and the ice cream(which you pour up yourself). The soft serve mixed with the brand of root beer made it one of the best floats I think I have ever had. My burger was pretty good but not the best burger I've had in the area. Also the inside has a nice seat up--its an old school burger joint set up with modern decorations. Overall this place gets a solid three. I will so be back for a float. read more

This place has some good @$$ burgers! It's not that big of a restaurant so don't count on getting a seat on a really busy night. When you walk in, you place your order at the counter. They give you a card number, you sit wherever you want and they bring the food to you. They have a sink next to the counter so you can wash your hands. I love that! It's so convenient. You can just wash your hands there without having to go to the bathroom. They also have a sauce station where you can pick which sauces you want. They have ketchup, rajun cajun, chipotle mayo, etc. What a great thing to have. The rajun cajun was my favorite. I ordered the Bacon Cheesy Burger with Cheese & Ale fries. The food came out fairly quickly. The burger was soooo incredibly juicy and tasty. It's definitely messy and I used about 20 napkins. Good thing they have that sink too. The fries weren't bad although I didn't really care for the cheese that came with it. It's better to get regular fries and just dip it with the available sauces they have at the station. While you're eating, you will be interrupted quite a few times from the people that work there. They're called "movers." They check in to make sure you're doing ok and ask if you need anything. Some people think it's too much when someone comes by like every 5 minutes but I think it's great customer service. I like that they do that. This place is great! read more

I normally don't post recommendations online but I have to say after eating at Burger 21 in Sterling I will be coming back again. Burger 21 you rock! The meat was juicy and cooked to my satisfaction. The sweet potatoes fries was good too. The service was GREAT (two thumbs up) not what you expected for a quick grab-your-food and go type of chain food. I thought once you walk in, order your food then that was that, you eat and go but the floor manager (Nikki) working that day checked in on us, made sure everything was to our satisfaction and asked if there was anything else we needed. Now that is Excellent Service if you ask me. She was very attentive to our needs. I would definitely recommend this joint to anyone who loves a good burger, great service and pleasant environment. read more

The food here is always a hit with the family. The service is usually prompt and friendly. Deducting a star for the recent change they've made at the register. Am I behind the times here, or is it bizarre for the register to prompt you for a full service tip? The prompt (mandatory to select a value before completion of checkout) asks for a percentage of the bill to be added as gratuity. There is a 'No tip' option, but that feels like a guilt trip. I mean, I am under the impression that this is fast food. If the staff are dependent on tips, as bartenders/waitstaff are, that's a failure of management. If this is a strategy to augment staff salaries, it's a very poor approach. Tips are gratuities paid at the conclusion of service - why in the world would I be forced to select the amount of gratuity for service not yet received in an establishment where tipping would generally not be assumed. It was so off putting to me that I figured I'd write a review and see if anyone else finds this sorta thing strange or if I need to start expecting an additional 15% up charge on all future transactions involving a human being. read more

Very, very good. We took our family of four here and we all found a delicious offering from the menu. My picky daughter finished all of her chicken tenders and fries which almost never happens. The service was great and there were staff members who checked on us while we were dining. One suggestion would be to have one more soft drink station. But we were glad to see Coke Zero! The ordering system was very unique which I'm not against. I came with my mom and brother. I ordered the Bacon Cheesy burger. My brother ordered the Philly Cheese. We all shared a pound of fries and a large sweet potato fries order. The fries are very similar to McDonalds fries (Which I don't mind at all), except a little thinner. The total for everything was around $27 which is okay. The burgers are an average size. The buns were a little dry and not like the regular burger buns. The meat was juicy and well cooked. It was dripping with grease but you would expect that with a burger. My brother didn't really like his. The sweet potato fries were thin and crunchy. My family prefers Frudrucker burgers to this because it is cheaper and larger however the fries here were good. Also, the sauce selection is huge. read more

Went tonight with the Mrs. Nice atmosphere and the variety of sauces (still scratching my head a bit on what one does with "Toasted Marshmallow" tasting mayo!) was interesting. But the main purpose in going was the burger which I found just "ok." We both had the 'shroom burger. The taste was ok but, trying to limit carbs, I opened mine up and ate the burger with a knife/fork. Doing so caused the burger patty to just crumble into pieces. Like I said, the taste was still ok but I found myself almost wishing I'd had a spoon to pick up the crumbled burger pieces. I ended up eating the bottom half of the bun which was good. The fries were ok but weren't especially hot. Lastly, I'm not a cheapskate but I have a hard time understanding why I'm supposed to tip an employee who does nothing more than bring my burger to my table. Just yell my name out -- I can walk back up to the counter! Nice place but "Melt" in Leesburg is still the BBIT (Best Burger in Town) IMHO. read more

I recently moved from Georgia, where I fell in love with Burger 21 (I had a location 5 minutes from my house). When I moved to Rockville, I found out there was a location in Ashburn, and I had to go. It's about an hour away but totally worth it. Burgers are delicious and reliable. Crem brûlée milkshake is to die for. My go-to burger is the black and blue (medium rare). Tex mex is also delicious, but can be salty. My other favorites include the spicy Thai shrimp burger and the buffalo chicken burger. At this location, I occasionally have problems with the burger being overcooked or the fries a little cold, but that's bound to happen at any restaurant. Staff is friendly and capable. Great new restaurant. My boss took me there for lunch. Even though they were packed for lunch, we got our cooked-to-order burgers within 15 minutes. Things I loved about Burger 21: The Hand-washing Station - I hate having to wait in line at the ladies room just to wash my hands. This is the perfect solution. Cool sauces - They have about a dozen different dipping sauces. I tried 4 different ones & they were all very fresh. 3 of them I loved, the other one not so much. But that was just my personal palette. Waiters - Even though you order your food at the register by the door, they still have waiters who bring your food & make sure you're taken care of. For a brand new restaurant, the wait staff was good. Make sure you remember to tip your waiter. There is nothing worse than not tipping a waiter, but it is super easy to forget to since you pay for your food when you order. So remember to tip! The Bun - this restaurant is about $2 pricier than Five Guys, but the quality of food is 5 times better than Five Guys. The bun is a great example. No dinky white bread buns. My bacon cheeseburger came on this fresh brioche bun...sooo yummy. The Milkshake - While the burger was delicious, my favorite part was the Double Espresso milkshake, made fresh at their ice cream counter. It was one of the best milkshakes I've ever had. It is made with this creamy soft serve which made it rich, but not too heavy. The flavors were spot on. I already want another one and it has only been 2 hours since I finished the last one. Things I didn't love about Burger 21: Size - when the restaurant is full, like it was a lunch today, it is really packed. The large windows help the space feel open, but you're definitely going to have to weave in and out of the crowd to get to the drink station. Water Cups - The water cups were very small, like kiddie size. I'm not sure if this was their normal water cup or if they'd run out of the normal water cup. Either way, I'd like my water cup to hold more than 3 swallows of water. Overall, I had a great experience at Burger 21. My son gives it a 100 out of 10 he says and the dipping sauce buffet was a nice option to have. Had a pick up order (I ordered online because we were short on time to eat) and it took 20 minutes to get my food. Would have just had it there had I known it would have been so long. The food was good. There were plenty of people around to help. Unfortunately, the details are not there yet. I ordered a salad and ordered avocado, which costs extra. I did not get the avocado, so I asked a server who was passing by. She said she would bring extra avocado, like I had it on my salad and was asking for more. I showed her my salad and that there was none. And I had to show her the receipt. I still don't think she understood what I was telling her. I think she thought I was asking for extra. So, I got a couple of slices, and I kind of feel ripped off. Because I don't know if I got the amount I was supposed to because I had never been there before, and she made me feel like she was just bringing me more. I really don't appreciate not getting my order correct, and then, not getting it correct even after I asked about it. Doubtful that I will go back.
