I can't tell you the exact year when I finally decided to actually TRY the Burger Barn. I honestly put it off for years, thinking to myself... yeah, sure they're good. It's the only burger place around here! Years have passed, and competition has moved into town... and yet? I'd rather go here for my hamburger crave than anywhere else around. Why? They've never compromised on how they make, wrap or deliver their delicious burgers to you out the window. They are just as delicious today as they were 20-odd years ago when I first tried them and got hooked! How does someplace maintain this? Good management and ownership. Not compromising on quality, ingredients or changing how it has always been done and done right. The same burger I bought from there over 20 years ago is the same delicious burger I buy today. Sure, the prices have gone up, but they have to in order to pay upkeep of your premises, taxes, your staff and the suppliers of everything you have to have in order to run your business. I still remember someone complaining about how much it was for a burger there when they first raised their prices to at least be somewhat competitive with the "Arches" down the street. Look. You can go down there and buy something that someone flipped around, pre-processed somewhat filled with questionable meat or soy protein, loaded with msg and salt, who knows where it all was already made and pre-cooked before it even got there... I've seen the process from start to finish at our Burger Barn. They cook your burger fresh once you order it. If it were made already, it'd be ready for pickup at the window when you pull up to order... sounds like someplace you know? I've got the patience for something fresh, something consistently good and priced a lot cheaper than down the street, considering you're getting so much better quality! So you do you and go wherever you like... me? I'll stick with the best burger in town that's oh so good from the first bite to the very last bit. I thought about that, looking at the bite I had at the end with still plenty of creamy cheese, tons of meat and a few delicious pieces of pickles, onions, lettuce and even a sliver of tomato worked into it! Good to the absolute last bite. It's amazing to me that no one realizes how lucky we are that we have a family owned and mostly run business right here serving quality to our community for how many years now? Anyone know? Today was the day to finally experience Burger Barn, come back from a trip to Tampa the stars finally aligned for me to go through the drive through. I did a quick search of the previous reviews to see what everyone recommended. We went with the Super Cheeseburger/Reg Fries and an order of curl fries, service was quick on accurate. Love the ambiance of the Barn. They did not disappoint, solid Cheeseburger without the high prices in today's world. If they are open for get some food and support them. This is the Mac's of Hawthorne. We biked out on the Hawthorne bike trail, and needed fuel! It was drive-up or walk-up. A few picnic tables to hang out at. Staff was helpful and made good suggestions. Free refills on all drinks! We were there for about half an hour and maybe 30-40 cars cane through!! Burgers were kinda small, but delicious. The onion rings had to have onion powder in the batter!! Burger Barn has been on my radar for a loooong time! I finally made it out to Hawthorne to give them a try. I ordered a cheeseburger (single patty), hubby ordered a supercheeseburger (double patty) and we shared twister fries and onion rings. I thought everything was very simple and tasted good. The serving sizes were on the smaller side but so were the prices. It really felt like an old school burger joint. No frills kind of place. We enjoyed our meal under the trees next to the drive thru. We had heard about a burger Barn prior to this visit but it was always a closed when we went by. So excited to try it. This is a drive through store with some picnic tables in the back if you don't want to eat in your car. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers and onion rings. We got 2 cheeseburgers and fries. As we were already driving on, we decided not to go back and get the correct order. However, the French fries were piping hot and Crispy and well seasoned. Burger was delicious on a soft bun. My only critique is that the lettuce is torn and not 1 big piece. If you are driving it's hard to keep that lettuce on the sandwich. Food was great, prices great. Will stop there again read more

What a gem! Passed by during a road trip last year, and made a point to stop this time. It's like something out of the past, the drive thru menu is very low tech, and you can barely understand the cashier. However, prices are also out of the past, our order for three of us cost just over $10. My cheeseburger was very basic, but delicious. The fries, however, were so good it left us wondering if they're just ignoring the guidelines banning trans fat or cooking with basic lard. The portion was very large and I could not stop eating them. Minus one star for the borderline rude service on the first visit, Asking for extra pickles was a major ordeal, at first the girl who heard me, just picked up her phone and ignored me, then we asked another girl who acted like we demanded all the cash in the register, finally a third employee handed me a small side of pickles. Every weekend I go out on the motorcycle and try a new place for lunch. The circle is getting wider and wider and I have to find places further away from home that I haven't been to, and this week it was Hawthorne's turn. Finding Burger Barn isn't so bad if you are on US 301. If you are on Sr 20 you just have to know it is there, because the overpass skips right on by the main drag of town. You've seen Cars, right? Yeah... same thing, but kind of in reverse since the overpass is the minor road. Anyway, Burger Barn is a local burger place that specializes in, well... burgers. You can sort of tell from the name. It is a pretty standard format followed by a number of other burger places in neighboring towns (Alachua has a popular place that is similar, as does Gainesville, and even Trenton has one), right down to the same paper envelops the burgers are put in and the definition of "All the way". I got a pair of doubles and an order of fries, and the price was actually quite good... better than those other places I alluded to above! They make their food to order, so once I ordered I had to wait a good ten minutes or so before my food was ready... but at least then I knew that my food was freshly cooked! I chose to sit at a park bench under an oak tree out back, which turned out to be a bit of a mistake as the area is undergoing caterpillar-geddon right now, with white tussock moth caterpillars all over the place. They get blown off of the branches of the oak trees (they feast on the oak leaves) and can irritate the skin for some folks. Fortunately I am not one of those people, but they are still a nuisance. No fault of Burger Barn, of course... this is nature we are talking about. Burger Barn makes a good burger, and I will be back. read more

On our way back from Anna Maria Island, we saw a line of cars at this place called Burger barn. I proceeded to read the reviews and found them positive so I asked my husband to make a u-turn. We were in line for a total of 15 minutes. We ordered two single cheeseburgers, one double, one triple, a double bacon cheeseburger, 2 shakes, three fries, & a tater tots for a total of $42. This was one of the cheapest meals I've paid for on this trip. Everyone rated the burgers a 9 out of 10. The sauce, a light thousand island. Was just right so the burger was not soggy at all. It was freshly cooked. The fries and tater tots were rated a solid 10 out of 10. Not poor at all and the salt was just right. There were a couple of tables but it was too hot to eat outside so we ate in the car. The burgers were wrapped perfectly so it was not measly to eat. We were headed to Jacksonville yesterday and along the way you have to get something to eat. On our small road trip we ran into this gem along the way, the Burger Barn. We weren't sure what to expect but it was assumed to be OK , since there was a line of cars almost into US-301 to get to the drive thru. There was a gentleman who came up to take our order but we'd never been so we had no clue what to order - we got to the DT menu and it was simple , burgers , fries, shakes, soda and a few chicken sandwiches. The toppings are simple. All-the-way = lettuce , tomato, onion, and their special sauce (kind of like a thousand island dressing but not as heavy) You can get bacon and cheese as well. We ordered 1 - cheeseburger (lettuce, sauce) 2 - hamburgers (lettuce, tomato, special sauce) 1 - order of fries 2 - soda ------- The burgers were the perfect size , soft buns , hot thin beef patty's that tasted like they've been cooked on the same seasoned flat top since they opened , very good flavor. The fries were HOT and crispy. If you are a fan of shoestring or skinny "fast-food" fries these are for you. We shared an order of fries and we couldn't finish them btw the 2 of us. Overall the food was worth the stop and it was a fun experience for us to eat at a place we had seen before but never had the opportunity to stop. Pulled into restaurant with three cars ahead of me, waited approximately 3 to 8 minutes and while waiting the menu board where you would typically order food was there however no one greeted me or said please wait a moment or anything to give an indication that the board was actually working I pulled up to the second window and young women asked me if I had ordered I responded no, no one greeted me when I pulled up to the menu board to which they wanted me to go back around and get back in line an additional four cars When I to the women that I would not be getting back in line again their answer was "OK" needless to say I will not be visiting there again read more

We were excited to stop by this drive-thru burger joint off Highway 301 after reading about it. Prices are pretty reasonable and these humble burgers are really good for a fast food restaurant. I heard the fish sandwich was good, but it was when I took my first bite when I was convinced about this place. I liked the contrast between the hot crispy fish and the cool tomato and lettuce and onions. A cheeseburger, hamburger, fish sandwich, drink, and curly fries only cost us $19. Not bad. read more

The bacon cheeseburger I had was average as well as the onion rings I bought. Service was good. The drive in could use a good cleaning. I know restaurants get dirty while being used but I could see lots of areas in the drive in that has t been cleaned for some time. Food tasted good but nothing special. For about 5 years now, I have passed The Burger Barn on the way to and from Clearwater. There is always a line down the street. Always wanted to stop and try, but with as many cars in line, never did. Finally this weekend, I met some friends here and we made a day of the place. No dine in seating but 4 nice picnic tables out for you, a couple are shaded and a couple are not. Right on 301 in Hawthorn is the cute red barn that serves you delightful burgers and more. We had a variety of items, the burger, super burger, supernatural burger, fries, tots, onion rings, milk shakes....we did it up. They are quick to cook your order exactly how you want it! MY burger was delicious all the way: sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion...I added pickle for a fantastic meal! My opinion only....the onion rigs were Devine, the tots were good, but the fries lacked a little luster. I wish they would have let them cook a little longer. Let's talk about the shakes.....YUMMY! Nice, smooth, creamy, full of flavor. We got the Vanilla and Strawberry....wanted more! So now I am planning my next trip, I will stop and wait in line if hunger is hanging out with me! For a quick bite in an area void of very many choices, this was a pleasant surprise. Drive through barn (yes barn!) that has burgers, ham and cheese sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, and a few sides to choose from. Not a huge menu, but the place is tiny so what do you expect?! My teen had a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. Served on Texas Toast with just the right amount of ham and cheese and grilled well. The hamburgers are small, but they are tasty. They come with their "special sauce" which reminds me of McDonalds Big Mac sauce. The onion rings were hot and crispy, although pretty sure they came out of a freezer bag. Tater tots were what you'd expect from tater tots. Service was quick and you can take it to go or find a spot to park and eat at their picnic tables. This place was awesome. No thrills place but really solid for a small business and better burgers than any fast food. They are thinner patties so I recommend at least the super burger (2 patties) or supernatural burger (3 patties). Be sure to get their own custom burger sauce added. I am sad :( My dad and I had a little trip in Savannah the last few days, and on the drive there we saw burger barn, and excitedly decided we needed to stop there on the drive back. So on our way home, we realize we're getting close to the establishment... And we get there just in time! They close at 5pm and it is 4:40-45. So my dad rushes to the window.... Just to find out they're closed. We live about 2 hours from burger barn so I doubt I will be back anytime soon. Very sad. I am sure the burgers are fantabulous. read more

The food is delicious, the service is good not to slow but not to fast, the vibe and atmosphere of the place is fine it's a small fast food place it has a couple tables outside but that's about it. Drive thru is better, recommend coming only for the food and eating in your home or car, tables outside are available at anytime though. read more
