While the menu was pretty standard, there was a good variety of food. We ordered eggs and biscuits, and I got grits while my husband got a (huge) pancake. Food comes out as it's ready because everything is made fresh and there aren't any heating lamps. Everything was hot and flavorful, and even though service was quick, we didn't feel rushed. Would definitely be back if we are in the area.

Grannie's is a cute little diner with simple décor and classic comfort food. Nothing fancy, just the kind of place that feels welcoming the second you walk in. Our waitress, Trish, was an absolute pistol -- quick-witted with a slightly sarcastic edge, and I loved every minute of it. We had great banter back and forth, and she made the whole experience even more fun. There were four of us in our group. The ladies both went with the vegetable soup and agreed it was tasty, though a bit heavy on the tomato flavor. One had a grilled cheese, the other a BLT, and both were happy with their sandwiches. Me and the other guy ordered the Monster Melt -- think patty melt vibes with a cooked-to-order burger patty, melted cheese, and diced onions. I had mine on rye bread, while my buddy went with a bun. We both agreed the burger meat was good quality and cooked just right. He paired his with crinkle-cut fries, and I went with fried okra because, well... when in the South, eat like a Southerner. After lunch, we shared a slice of homemade carrot cake. My wife thought it was a bit too sweet, but I say there's no such thing as too much money, too much fun, or too sweet of dessert. If you find yourself in Crystal River, do yourself a favor and stop by Grannie's. Ask for Trish, come hungry, and be prepared for some solid comfort food and a little entertainment along the way.

We took a sunny drive over to celebrate a major birthday for my darling spouse.....and were FLOORED by the experience and the food...."THE FOOD"! Oh my Goodness!!! More on this shortly..... This Virginia girl (A Florida girl since the 1980's) fell in love with the eclectic decor and table settings that looked like my Momma and Grandma's heirlooms. Vintage prints and paintings. Red vintage bloomers with lace on the hook on the back of the door of the "Ladies' Retiring Room and Necessary" [my terms, to be fair...] Photographs of young belles and their children who arrived later. A decent interval later!!! NOW, the food. Hot, homemade cornbread to the table, and a peach ice tea that is like no other I have enjoyed ANYWHERE in the south. Hubby chose the Texan Chicken Fried steak, with smashed potatoes and greens, and I picked my favorite southern dish (one that I cannot make at home without ruining ~SHRIMP & GRITS!) and it was beyond description. Shrimp almost the size of quail, with perfect spices and texture. Creamy grits with cheese and a few bell peppers for a variety. I never DREAMED of using salt or pepper.....it would have been an affront the the dish itself, My husband's smile told me he loved HIS chosen dish down....that, and all but licking his plate! We have the decadent looking slices of cake her to share later with coffee, but there was no chance we would skip trying them.....but also no chance we could eat them immediately after lunch without exploding! Service was prompt without hovering, and we will be returning either for MY birthday or if we have friends come to visit. HIGHLY AND TOTALLY RECOMMEND FOR A SPECIAL MEAL. The quality makes the prices perfectly acceptable!!

You just need to have an appetite. They do take reservations. They serve dinner too. This is where you can invite your husband to join you.
