I haven't been to Burger Carte in Smithers in 7 or 8 months because of some bad experiences. However, I've been seeing some really good reviews lately on Facebook. I decided to give Burger Carte another chance. I've been a customer all of my life. It was a staple of my childhood. I'm glad I stopped in today. The food was excellent. The hotdog was good. The slaw was nice and sweet. My Big Gene was messy but super yummy. Big Gene special sauce was just like it used to be back in the day. Oh and my mushrooms were the best I've had in a very long time. perfectly cooked and plenty of them! I'm a big ranch dressing girl. Ranch can tell you a lot about a restaurant. We used to eat here all the time but recently they've changed their staff. Now it's complete CRAP! The big gene had ZERO taste and very little sauce (it was GROSS), and the cheese sticks were severely over cooked to the point all the cheese had bursted out. We called them to let them know and was told we could get our order replaced. Well.... we even called ahead to make sure they still had our name down for a replacement so we wouldn't waste gas going All the way there. They advised us they would but when we got there they said it had been too long and they wouldn't replace anything! It's been less than 2 weeks ago! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! It used to be very good in the 60s and 70s then started changing hands. We experienced wrong orders, missing orders, hairs, hamburgers not done in the middle over time and stopped going. It had been a few months and decided to see if maybe they have new management....Ordered 2 burgers, 2 mozarella sticks, broccoli bites. It's 12 miles there and 12 back. He gets home and said he asked them to cut burgers in half to make sure the were done...they did not, instead they burned them crisp. How hard is it to get something just cooked done? They left out an order of mozarella sticks and the burned the broccoli bites to the point of throwing them away. Never ever ever again, it's time to close. read more

Stopped today got a A-1 Steak-burger. Spot on ! Food was awesome, service was MTO. Not one complaint. Nice little restaurant.

Stopped in for lunch. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers and a side of fresh cut fries, and a chocolate milkshake. The girl who took our order was nice and friendly. Our food was made fresh to order. This is what classic American/ fast food should be. The location is small on the side of the road, but it packs in everything you'd need. We've had the burgers, they were all good- from the mountain mama (with fried green tomatoes) to a classic double cheese burger they are able to nail both sides of the burger spectrum. Outside of that they have a wide variety of food option. Corn dogs, wings, nachos, sandwiches and the famous Al Burger (sandwich meat than traditional burger). Make sure to grab a milkshake for dessert! They do have online ordering, take contactless payment and plenty of parking. A little bit of covered seating outside but mainly a grab and go stop. Finally had the Big Al Burger. So many locals recommended it, so I had to try it. Not a burger at all, But it is huge. I loved it. It is sloppy, and oh so yummy, with multiple meats and some heat to go with it. If you are in the area stop by and try it. read more

Service is horrible but food is good. If they have it in stock! Service just is not friendly, I think the poker room and serving is to much for the one worker that they work up front. Maybe hire one or two more people and it would probably get better. read more

This is actually a 4.5. The burger we chose was one that had swish cheese, caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms. We usually split a thing like this when traveling because I'm a very light eater and we were on our way home an hour away. The burger, when finally done was on a soft bun, and the meat was really good . It was sitting on a piece of iceberg lettuce, well seasoned , but missing the onions. Because it took so long , the lady gave him a free beer. So I guess you must remind them about the onions. In the first picture I saw several months ago it looked fantastic. We would go get real West Virginia hot dogs with sweet coleslaw and or the special hamburger choices on the menu. They have nothing except seating and building over this historic food landmark on Midland Trail HWY 60. Als Burger if you like cold cuts it is a local favorite! HUGE! AL Falbo Burger the Godfather of Smithers Italian community. West Virginia has an extensive Italian community and history in the mines, metals, and mason backgrounds in Southern West Virginia. When you dine locally you will experience available Italian cuisine items and Southern West Virginia items. What you see in this beautiful edge of New River Gorge, Hawks Nest State Park, Gauley Bridge, Kanawha Falls State Park, Cathedral Falls, and the Hydro Power plant public area on New River is the river by Smithers wide for large boats soon becomes rapids and falls as you head upstream. Many people get food at Burger Carte then drive about ten minutes up HWY 60 to Kanawha Falls area or Glen Ferris to snack! Come as you are! Like to play slot machines? They have them too! The burgers are fresh and high quality definitely not a franchise burger. The place is basic, has a side indoor area with slot machines. Parking on Hwy 60. Definitely varies time of day and night. Always worth going there. I have spoken to many people the new RAMP Burger with Aioli mayo based sauce was over the top delicious. They also have really good authentic West Virginia hot dogs a chili (not Mexican chili type) and sweet coleslaw. Delicious. If you crave cold cuts the AL Burger is the grand daddy of all that Smithers was when it was a booming fun town. The fried veggies in batter are excellent. Highly recommend. read more

This is our second time coming here and they messed up our food both times. This time they got half of our order right but they gave us MUSHROOMS instead of mozzarella sticks, their definition of a milkshake is soft-serve in a cup and by the time our food was fixed it was cold. The first time that we came here our fries and onion rings were burnt to a crisp but yet somehow also soggy the sandwiches were sloppy and hardly thrown together. 1star read more

A side of the road burger and shake shack, just a notch above a dive. I don't think I saw a single healthy thing on the menu, but then again I wasn't looking hard. I was there for a milkshake and the Dreamcicle did not disappoint! It was extremely thick, delicious, and lived up to its name. They make it straight from the cream whipped up in a blender, so it's real cream and not just soft serve stuff. The kids will love this place, hot dogs, corn dogs, burgers, and nuggets, and of course there's ice cream! We will stop here again on our way to the mountains. read more

The Burger Cart is a UKV institution and has been around for as long as I can remember. Simple fare, that has good prices and will leave you feeling nostalgic. Here are my favorite menu items: Hot Bologna, Footlong Hot dog with everything, and the Big Gene Burger. BC's Slaw is second to none, and overall their food is delicious. It's a great quick lunch spot that is mainly used for take-out. There are a few seats inside and outside, but most people seem to grab and go. We were hungry and stopped a tudors for breakfast. Got our food through the drive thru and went down to burger carte to eat. We went to the tables on the side,not right out front. A man came around the building and said " This aint no picnic area. " we initially thought he was joking because it seemed harsh. He followed up with " Im not joking, even squirted my feet and legs with a hose. He kicked us out of there. What were we hurting. Why was he so forceful and mean. I personally will not ever eat there and will tell everyone i know about my experience. He said we could come back when the gambling parlor opened. After a long night, i just wanted to eat. Went here as a child. Al Burgers are a local staple. Burger Carte was also known for their Cart Wheel sandwiches and hot and fried bologna sandwiches. Went back recently and got a fish dinner for my boyfriend which he loved, and i got of course the hot bologna sandwich with cheese and lettuce added to the already delicious special sauce. When I was a kid (40 years ago), my family used to go to this joint for fried chicken after church on Sundays.
