As we made our way through West Virginia, we got hungry so once again, Google and Yelp (Google-what's the best BBQ on INT 64 near Charleston and Yelp to validate Google responses) helped us to choose a restaurant. We arrived at Ridge View BBQ right at noon and the place was packed. The line moved quickly and there was plenty of seating despite the busy time. My wife order the pork platter which included a pulled pork sandwich and choice of two sides. (Mac and cheese and baked beans which she got for me). I order a simple pulled pork sandwich. The pork at Ridge View was pretty good but different from most bbq pork we've ordered. Here the pork is cooked or simmered with a house sauce already added and served that way. The result was a moister than usual but very tasty pork sandwich. We both agreed, different but not worse. The sides were very good. Staff was overly friendly (sort of characteristic in West Virginia-people are super nice) and prices were very reasonable. Would definitely come back. read more

Finally managed to stop by for lunch last week with some coworkers. Honestly some of the best BBQ Pulled pork I've had around here. To compare it to a popular chain, it's right on par with places like Mission BBQ, at lower cost and faster service. My only complaint were the sides portions, but you can always add another side and still spend less than you would at any equivalent. The place was clean and everything you needed was laid out and well stocked after ordering. We arrived during the lunch rush and still managed to get our food within 3 minutes, then enjoyed every bite of it. We will absolutely be back in the future for lunches! read more

Called in and placed a to go order to bring home for dinner. We ordered the picnic pack (pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad, and a single serving of Mac and cheese). The pulled pork was flavorful but had a lot of fat in it you had to pick out, the hubs likes the baked beans, the potato salad was good, but had a strong mustard taste, and the mac the noodles were mushy and was not edible. While the restaurant is open for lunch, it is drive-through only at the dinner hour. So, we ended up eating the Friday special-- a 4 meat/ 4 side platter-- at our hotel. There was a lot of food here for $24.93 plus tax, with a bag of pork rinds and an apple crisp bringing the bill up to $36.02. For the meats, we chose brisket, ribs, pulled pork and Italian sausage, and for the sides corn muffins, coleslaw, green beans, and mac 'n cheese. The pork rinds were great, but the heavily sauced ribs proved mushy and bland. The Italian sausage was unremarkable, but the pulled pork was a very tasty bite that we would order again without hesitation. The 4 sides and the apple crisp weren't bad, but there was nothing memorable about any of them. This leaves the brisket, which is the epicenter of the BBQ universe. This was sliced too thick, lacked a pink ring, bark and discernible seasoning, and whatever smokiness it might have once possessed vanished beneath a slathering of sauce. Texture and flavor profile alike called to mind buffet roast beef with sauce added. So, if you dine here, our recommendation is that you go with the pulled pork, and sides of coleslaw and corn muffins. read more

For dinner we stopped by a Charleston BBQ staple. Ridge View BBQ We ordered the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich platter, a hotdog and cheese fries. The BBQ was super tasty as always. Their baked beans have lots of pulled pork in them as well and are on the sweet side. The potato salad was pretty standard. The cheese fries were regular ol straight cut frozen fries, but the cheese sauce helped them out a lot and they weren't bad. The hotdog was beef, and you knew it the moment you bit into it. The coleslaw was good, but the chili wasn't my favorite; too tangy for my preference. Certain times a year they have ramp pimento cheese and it is the holy grail of cheese spreads. read more

As a new West Virginian, I am fascinated with the Mountain State's obsession with ramps! The green veggie looks like a scallion, but with a strong, more garlicky flavor! They come in muddy bunches and have to be cleaned well. Their season is sadly short, say April 1 to May 15. Ridge View BBQ makes "Ramp Burgers" in season (April/May) and they are delicious! This place is absolutely the best. Great BBQ, great fries, great mac and cheese. I will say I wasn't the biggest fan of their ranch, but that also may have just been because it was hot. The only thing I'm sad about is that the portions for the sides aren't bigger, those little cups are so tiny! The workers are always so nice, so sweet and helpful, always making sure that they double check everything with you to make sure your order is correct. Ambiance I'm not super sure, they've been closing the inside really early, so I've only gone through the drive thru, and they do have some potholes on the way out, so just be careful as you're leaving. It's easy to find off the highway with plenty of parking. You know a BBQ place is going to be good when the smoker is rolling in front of the restaurant and the smell is beckoning you inside. We were greeted immediately. You place your order at the counter, move down the eat-up counter, and get your order. We were advised to get the sampler and split it 3 ways. Even with a big eater, we had more than enough food. We each ordered and favorited something different, although we agreed on 2 things: 1. The brisket is noticeably more delicious than most brisket, and 2. Everything was very good - including the sides. The restaurant is very clean. I haven't had anything bad at Ridgeview BBQ. My favorites are the pulled chicken and the ramp burger they serve in the Spring.

Let me start off by saying I'm from Texas, so maybe our region has a different style to our BBQ than up here. First of all, I found it odd you couldn't order their meat by weight. Every other BBQ place I've been to (in the south) you can order 1/4 pound, 1/2 pound, etc of brisket, chicken, pork, whatever. So that was strange to me. I ended up ordering a platter with 4 different meats to take home and share with my family. I had sausage, brisket, turkey, and ribs and was not impressed with any of them. My husband thought it tasted fine. Definitely not the best BBQ place ever. And their BBQ sauce tasted like pure sugar. No tanginess or flavor except liquid sugar.
