I generally eat only plain burgers so this place was unimpressive, Clean But the burgers are grilled (no spices) and fries taste the same as at hundreds of other small diners . The service is above average, but cant make up for the mediocre food. It may be better if you add other ingredients , I cant judge those as I always opt for plain. read more

I came in to ask what time they closed it was 9pm on the dot, cashier said 10pm so I said great ! Walked in and ordered my meal, not even 10 minutes later a couple of nice ladies walked in and attempted to order when at that point the cashier said " we are only doing To-Go order not Dine in" , of course they turned around and looked at me as I was the only one sitting down. At that moment another employee went to the front and starts putting up chairs .....this isn't even 9:15 and they are turning customers away ? Putting chairs up? Right after the two nice ladies placed their order to go a family of 3 also attempted to order and waked out. No manager on site but just a cashier and 2 employees making burgers, I was disappointed to see this from an employee who clearly doesn't care about driving business and have no problems driving customers away. If a restaurant closes a 10 shouldn't the last order for dine or or to-go should be at 10?? . This is all, just felt I needed to share my experience in this restaurant. I have to say the burger at Burger Island was pretty impressive. The variety of burgers on the menu is pretty extensive and that made it a tough decision. For an initial test, I just went with the good ole jalapeno cheeseburger. They did not skimp on anything. The burger was a good size, very tasty, and was completely covered with jalapenos. Awesome! Needless to say, I didn't even feel like eating dinner that night. The fries didn't really do it for me though. I like the type (not crispy with some skin on them), but they were really greasy and had a strange seasoning. The place was pretty dirty too. Wow... this place has not been cleaned since the Clinton Administration. Gross! I can't believe I stayed and ate there. Everything about this place was wrong. Cheap frozen Great Value onion rings... cold Hormel chili... flat soda from a leaking dispensing machine (God only knows when the last time those nozzles were sanitized). Disgusting! Most people who've been in the Dallas area for a few decades have a favorite local color neighborhood Mexican place which they will tell you is the best in town. Burger Island is the hamburger equivalent. Our usual is the bacon cheeseburger for me and the guacamole burger add bacon for the wife. It is consistently, amazingly good. The taste of the beef is top notch. You can get better elsewhere, but you'll pay twice as much. The seasoning on the bacon cheeseburger is very subdued, but the meat is so good... There are spicy stuff burgers on the menu and if I get tired of insane deliciousness I might try one. The fries are not my style, nor are the onion rings. It seems like a lot of places with really good burgers, including really good expensive burgers, have some odd ideas about how to make french fries. The burger is big enough though, that we don't miss the fries. The look of the place is not its strong suit. They had a theme. It didn't work. They gave up on it a long time ago. I've never seen it really dirty, but it always looks tired. The staff is nice. They are hospitable and efficient. No big deal, it just works. read more

A couple nights ago I ordered via the Q app .I sent my son to pick up our order before closing time. He went to the door and it was locked. There were people there but no one bothered to open it so he left. I called the Q customer service and told them what happened. She said she would cancel the order. Ten minutes later someone called me from Burger Island and said they are closed and no one picked up the order. I told him my son came and the door was locked. He said no one came. We went back and forth and he hung up on me. I checked my ledger today and they charged me $47.41. I will never ever eat/buy/ support this place again. If I could give negative stars I would. I am almost certain they assumed my son was coming to order rather than pick up and it was almost closing time. At any rate, they closed the doors early. It would have been nice if they answered the door and say too late to place an order because we're closing soon rather than just not acknowledge customers at the door then lie and say no one came to pick up. read more

I ordered for pick-up over the phone and talked with a very pleasant lady, who took my order quickly and kindly. She told me it'd be ten minutes, and walking in ten minutes later, they had just finished packing up my order. The dining room was about half-full, and she greeted me immediately though she was on her way to a table. A few seconds later, I was checking out and then walking out the door. We ordered a bacon cheeseburger and a jungle burger, and WOW, these were great. Whatever spices they put in the meat were excellent, and the combination of sauces on the jungle burger make my mouth water even right now, sitting here completely full. Even though I am not a big fan of their sides (fries, rings), I keep going back because of the burgers. The first time I ate here, I thought there was no way I was going to pay $5 for a hamburger, but I keep going back because the burgers are very good and very filling. The worst place to order your food, I would not be writing if it was one time, but no three times, and now you out. I was on hold for 15 minutes and still was on hold when I got there, and the girl tells me that she is too busy to answer the phone. The stuffed jalapeños and Philly cheesesteaks were really good. The peppers were large, stuffed with a lot of cheese, and I liked the batter they were cooked in. Foods pretty good. The over the phone service, however, is something else. They have hung up on us before, told us they wouldn't deliver because of bad weather (it had completely stopped raining when we called that day), and told us they never deliver after 3pm. That last one is my favorite, since I've only ever gotten delivery AFTER 3pm. Its always a gamble as to whether or not they feel like delivering when I call. So don't get your hopes up! read more

This used to be a delicious gourmet burger dive; but as of Tues., Mar. 13th, it's off my list of places to go for a decent burger. My husband & I had been going for years, but we won't anymore and that's too bad for Burger Island. That Tuesday, my husband bit into a rancid bacon cheeseburger. Believe me, he's been a short-order cook in the past, so he knows a rancid burger when he's eaten one. He tasted mine and it was fine and I ate most of it but couldn't enjoy it because he took 3 bites of his rancid burger and threw it out. At least the fries were good. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised at how great the burger is. Huge burgers with plenty of toppings, great sides (onion rings kick) and a very low price. Ok, so my only complaint is that I don't appreciate diminished service because of my race. The entire staff is Hispanic (no issues with that) but they had no interest in me being there. In fact, when I walked in the entire staff was sitting in the dining area watching TV and seemed inconvenienced when I walked in the door. The employees then shuffled to their positions and my order was taken .....with no words spoken to me! No "welcome", "how are you" or "what would you like?". The individual behind the counter just looked at me until I ordered. The two Hispanic families that came in after me received excellent service including friendly banter. I don't appreciate that, but I cannot lie; the burger is great and I've had delivery a few times since. read more

Looking at the prior reviews I note, while doing this one, that none of them are from this year at all, so thinking maybe this location has gone downhill since the reviews were posted. That being said, I had seen reviews for the Allen location and bookmarked it and just happened to be in the neighborhood of Garland today and spotted this location so thought, why not? Now I ask myself...Why??? No need to ask "Where's the Beef" here, since the burgers are half pounders. However, one DOES have to ask "where's the juice and flavor"?? This was a nice looking Bacon cheeseburger, and I was really looking forward to sinking my teeth into it, but it was more akin to sinking my teeth into a plank of sawdust amidst a BLT. Blech. Way overcooked and dry as a bone. Bacon had good flavor though. Nice bun too - held together nicely. Might not have if there'd been a little juice to the meat. Fries were okay - nothing special and not really into the seasoning since not a salt fan - although they did give me a small side of mayo to go with the fries at no charge (and it was real mayo - NOT salad dressing which is a plus in my book!). With an iced tea (also brewed, not the fake kind), it came to $8.06 for lunch. I'll save the $8.06 and maybe try the one in Allen next. Or maybe I'll just head to Five Guys. read more

Pretty Good, we got home delivery. Onion Rings are good, not great...but they did have a nice crunch on the outside and they are real onion inside. Not like some of the fast food places. I got the Chili Cheeseburger minus the cheese. It was really good, not to spicy...someone posted that is hormel chili, but being that I don't like hormel chili I can say this is something different almost as good as Wolf's not quite as spicy as theirs but with enough flavor. Nicely grilled onion. Also got the funnel fries, should have left that box open as they lost their crunch by the time I got to them. Not as good as funnel cakes, missing the vanilla flavor, but not bad for the price. Nephew got the BBQ chicken sandwich, Mozzarella sticks he was pleased with his food and said he would eat from here again. I know he loves BBQ sauce and chicken, just need to add bacon and he would be tickled pink. Over all a pretty good experience phone service isn't the greatest, takes a while for them to get your info inputed, I had to give our street address 4 times. This location advertises delivery service. they only have a three mile delivery radius. i was denied service the first time i called, and after i reserched how far away my house was, 2.1 miles to be exact, and called back. i was STILL denied service because "they just dont go there". Two employees, cindi and thomas, have no customer service skills whatsoever. i didnt even get a chance to try their food and nor do i want to since there service is so utterly terrible. dont expect delivery service vause even if your within their range they will just deny you cause they are LAZY and incompetent. read more

I will never patronize this establishment again. I placed an order over the phone and the young latin girl that runs the register placed me on hold twice. I paid with my Chase Visa and the machine declined my card so I had to go to the ATM and get cash. Obviously the CC machine need re-booted/serviced also; I didn't get an apology for that inconvenience either. When I got home my order was very incorrect. I called to let her know this and I was placed on hold again. Once she returned to the phone she couldn't offer any resolve so I asked for the Manager's name and low & behold, she refused and said they weren't allowed to give the Manager's name. I told her that I was a customer with a complaint and she still refused. I will down talk this establishment to everyone I come in contact with.
