Go here! Delish. Here's a review from a true coffee snob. I loath bland, watery, burnt flavored coffee. Which most coffee shops have in my opinion. Especially ones that sit within or next to a gas station. Today I was desperate, staying at a hotel that says it brews Starbucks but believe me it's not like the way it tastes in a regular brick & mortar Starbucks store, am I right? Anyway back to Burgie's. It smelled like legit expresso as I went in to just get a fountain drink and fillin up. I'm thinking, just try it maybe it'll be ok. So glad I did! I can't really comment on the food here, other than it all looks and smells great. The 5 stars is for fast friendly service, and my most recent discovery, the Red Eye. It's a drip coffee with a shot of espresso. It's brilliant when a drip just isn't going to pry them eyelids open, but you don't want the heaviness of the milk in a latte. I've been coming to Ames to have my car serviced for years and saw this place but never came here because it's a coffee shop at a gas station and I had no idea how great it is. Now I'm regretting all the times I waited in the car service lobby waiting for my car when I could have been here. Nice ambiance, yummy breakfast food. I was a bad vegan and had a breakfast biscuit with only one vegan ingredient (spinach). This is my favorite coffee shop in Ames. I'm so loyal to this place. More often than not, if you come in here you'll see me! I love to fill my class schedule with Burgies breaks and I love to meet my friends here. If I'm treating myself, which I normally am, I get an iced vanilla latte or a miel. My favorite food here is a Farmer's Burrito (no mayo for me), their raspberry white chocolate scones, or a Banana Chocolate Chip muffin (ask for them to heat it up!). The staff knows their regular customers by name so when I walk in I feel like I'm walking into a friends house. A perfect place to study, or meet friends. When it's nice out I like the large table by the drive through so I can get a tan AND sip on my latte. They expanded into the old credit union spot recently so now they have more seating! Burgie's. an iconic coffee shop in Ames. Burgie's is a small coffee shop in the back of a gas station that is frequented by college students and young adults alike. it is common to see several people with laptops, books or just sitting with their coffee. others may be meeting up with friends or even doing a bible study together. it is a comfortable environment full of friendly people always ready to have a conversation. the shop itself can get a bit noisy with the number of people chatting and hanging out so if you want to get some serious work done, bring headphones. this also lets people know that you aren't here to talk today. they are expanding so there is some temporary seating going on but it is unclear what will happen one the expansion is completed. the temporary seating is quite nice and feels more spacious than the main seating area. the gas station also renovated its bathrooms which are so freaking nice. they went for a modern look with grey floors and white subway tiled walls. on this visit, i ordered an eggnog latte [which is part of their seasonal flavors of course] and it is very very good! i would say i have high standards for an eggnog latte and this once meets them nicely. 10/10 would recommend. the only downside is the 16oz is not offered in a mug so i had to get a 12oz. if i remembered to bring my own vessel, i would have gone for the 16oz. it was served at the perfect drinking temperature so i was able to consume it immediately, which i love. if you find yourself there during the holiday season, get the nog! read more

On a road trip passing through, stopped to get a vanilla iced oat milk latte and a breakfast burrito. I was really pleasantly surprised with how amazing both items were! The vanilla latte tasted like some well crafted coffee and had the perfect ratio of vanilla to latte, not too sweet. The breakfast burrito was very nice size, could maybe feed 2 if you aren't too hungry, it had all of the essentials a breakfast burrito should have. I have zero complaints here. Burgie's Coffee & Tea is one of my favorite places in Ames and has been for many, many years. Over the years they have continued to get better. Better at roasting their coffees and better at serving their customers. Fortunately for some of us in town there are two locations - the other being located near the enterance of Mary Greeley Medical Center. Whether there or at the original location on Airport Road, you really can't go wrong. My personal favorite here is their salted caramel latte. They do it just right. Some coffee places add too much salt to the drink and it really takes away from the flavor. Burgie's adds the right amount, which is just enough to set the caramel flavor apart. It really is a great drink. During the warmer months, I typically reach for one of their awesome jamocha shakes. This concoction will get you hooked (just don't ask about the calorie content, lol). It consists of ice cream, espresso, chocolate syrup and whipped cream and is just plain wonderful. Even if that doesn't trip your trigger, Burgie's has a lot of good drinks you would probably find to your liking. Finally, it's some of the employees that really bring you back. After a while they'll learn your name and some even memorize your drink and start prepping it when you walk in the door. Friendliness is the best word to describe the atmosphere here. Laid back, friendly and cozy. Even the business manager stops out and talks with you if they have time. I've always thought that being on the other side of a gas station/car wash/convenience store was an odd location, but people know about it and it works. I certainly hope people don't just show up for gas and not realize there's a credit union and one great coffee shop/cafe on the other side. If so, they're missing out! Love this place! I'm a Seattle coffee snob and was so glad that I was able to get some good coffee when visiting with my husband whose family lives a few blocks from the coffee shop. I feel like this coffee shop does not get enough credit for what it deserves. Yes, it is connected to a convenient store and a bank, but it has one of the coziest atmosphere for coffee shops in Ames. It is far from campus, so I usually could get a table easily since there are not a lot of students coming to this place. Burgie's is like my escape place whenever I need a relaxing and quiet place to study, and other coffee shops are just full with people. They also have a good wifi connection, plenty of outlets, and good natural lighting which are very convenient to study or things done. The coffee itself is delicious. I have tried their lattes, regular coffee, even their blended Frappuccino-like items. Pastries and baked goods selection is decent. They also have lunches, mostly sandwich which are pretty good. Disclaimer - this review is entirely based on service & atmosphere. It's unfortunate this place is on the other side of a filthy smelly gas station. I stood in line for 10 minutes only to be told they were out of cold brew. It's a huge pet peeve when businesses don't take a few moments to throw up a "sold out" sign as to prevent customers from wasting their time. The barista proceeded to offer to pour hot coffee over ice for me. What??? Really??? It's not the best coffee in the world, but it's location is convenient for the days I have to take highway 30 to work and I'm running late (I'm always running late). I've never had the food here, but it doesn't look like there are too many vegetarian options other than the baked goods. The experience with staff has been 50/50. Sometimes they are super perky and pleasant, other times they are quiet and just appear to be going through the motions. No one has ever been completely unpleasant, so that's a plus. One thing that perplexes me is that on several occasions, the person taking my money will ask if I have a punch card with them. I don't, so I say no. And that's the end of that. What do I have to do for a punch card?? I'm certainly there at least 2 times a week (I'm always running late) so it's not like you'd be wasting the paper. Visited this cute coffee shop for the first time a couple of days ago. I ordered a hot 16oz Vanilla Latte to go and let me tell you... it was delicious!! They even did the latte art! The overall atmosphere is very nice and cozy and the baristas were very kind. A little pricey with my drink being 5 dollars, however, it was worth every penny!
