I'm not a skier and visited Burke mountain for the first time with family who come every year. From what I hear and read, Burke is very affordable compared to Stowe and others. If I could leave zero stars on this review, I would. First of all, they try to put two twin mattresses on top of some old box springs and call it a king size bed however the separation between the two twin mattresses while you're sleeping creates a gap in the middle of the bed that you have to deal with every morning. I tried to switch rooms, but they didn't have any available. Also, we didn't have hot water for three days while we were there. I kept calling the front desk and they said that they would let management know. I asked if management was working on the boiler system or where they were in the process but got no answers. Also, in the north wing of the hotel, there was only one elevator working. That caused delays getting to and from anywhere that we needed to go on that side of the hotel. Naturally, we took the stairs just about every time which was better for us anyway. It's highly unfortunate under this new management. It used to be a really nice resort and we really used to love staying there. read more

The Burke Mtn. Hotel/Resort is one of Vermont's well kept "secrets." I spent two night's at the Hotel at the end of June, 2022. Most, if not all, rooms are suites with kitchens. I am retired and was looking for a weekend respite. If you aren't staying for the outdoor life there are plenty of spaces inside and outside of Hotel to just relax. Morning breakfast, as well as lunch at the Pub, was very good. Liquor drinks (pre tip) are $12 or more. My beer was $7. All meals can be eaten outside or take to your room. Need to stick to a budget? Bring your own groceries/alcohol. (Kitchens in rooms...remember?) You unload and park your own car. My room was spotless and the views are spectacular. I was very pleased with my stay. read more

Expensive for what you're getting. During the holiday season you would think that they would have more trails open. I think what's most disappointing is the fact that they tout the military discount and that they love the military and their families but the time that active military is actually home would be the holidays so they really can't use the military skis free. They offer an insulting 10%. If it's free not during the holiday time, then maybe give 50% during the holiday time. read more

Visited Burke Mt this 2018-2019 holiday season. This place is annoying to put it nicely. The layout is horrible. Tickets are in office after climbing all the stairs from lot up. Went in had three people at counter. One side says tickets only passes on side. Stood there with one person in front of us and one group peps at corner line for passes. Finally another guy walks up and does some stuff not helping anyone yet and finally the lady says next. We're told there since were signing kids up for lessons being first time doing this we'd have to go up stairs first. So one adult got lift ticket. Lot money for only 3 1/2 hrs left of the session they were open for. $59.00. So we have to go up more stairs and go sign up for lessons. Ok, group in front of us waited some time for them to do their arrangements. One person working counter another just standing there doing nothing. Finally get to the lady and ask about private lessons for the four kids so they can do it together. It was a lot of money for one hour of lessons. One hour. Ok fine its holidays the family all came up to VT to spend holidays together so we do it. Well the lady at counter was far from friendly, she seemed to be snippy and asked if we were sure for the private lessons a few times as if it wasn't something she wanted or she didn't want our group of young children there. Don't know all I know is that we fished out a ton of money and customer service at ever part of the resort was horrible. Well by time fill out paperwork for kids pay then told to rent skis we have to go all way down to end building to rent skis not included in price as of yet. So mind you I was stupid thinking this would take few min but didn't realize how long it would take. Of all things the lady should have said it's ganna take too long come back another day, Nope. By time ski rental peps make their way to our group of kids a long time has gone by missing the time to meet instructor outside. Rental peps not very helpful for new peps that have never put skis on before. After spending nearly $1,000. For a lesson the kids not comfortable in the boots. Finally get out there. Only positive is first instructor assigned to us took off because we were late that's to poor help in rentals so a young lady I wish I could remember her name was so helpful and did great job. Well four kids started only one finished. One got frustrated which we expected, one had boot issues and no time to go back get different ones. Other kept trying but gave up. Last one made it and loved it. One hr of learning how to stand there and a move around on barely an angle of not that much and icy snow. Oh and apparently in rental place is no place to store your stuff in this building. So I had to run everyone's shoes down to another building. I ended up helping kids from one spot to another and outside and helping as the girl tried to show them that the hour flew by and then had to get them out and return stuff run back get shoes and get them set. I never made it on slopes. I had to help kinda not what I expected. I've been to many ski resorts the layout of this one is horrible. The assistance from employees is terrible. You know befor you charge an arm and leg for peps to get an idea of what sling is like they should offer a sample where employees or even volunteers have a chance to put peps in skis or board and feel what it's like and step out side to get around for little while make sure good with sizes get an experience and if all is good then your charged for lesson or rentals what ever. I just never expected to waste so much time and we would have been earlier but I figured be really crowded and didn't want kids over whelmed. Oh well, life lesson. Goto another mountain there's two others in area seemed more organized and helpful. read more

What an absolute joke this resort is. I understand that the resort has no control over the loss of power, but you do have control of your website and social media. We drove 2 hrs to find out there was no power. Zero information on the website (you didn't even update the snow report)and your staff answering the phones were either extremely rude or just plain uninformed. Straight up bush league. read more

This place is still the best VT experience my family has had. We drive from CT and it's 3.5hrs, we drive by other options it it's worth it. I would rather spend an extra 30 minutes in the car to enjoy no lift lines and less traffic on the trails. The deals they ya e with the new hotel are unbelievable (I hope they keep them going). A couple of good restaurants and great pubs. It is the hidden gem of VT skiing. Just tell to many people I like it because it's not to crowded. read more

Ah, the ol' home mountain. Burke was it while growing up in the NEK and attending St. Johnsbury Academy. I have many fond memories of skiing this little gem. Burke Mountain is pretty much on its own for skiing in northeastern Vermont. It is relatively small compared to Stowe, Jay Peak, and Killington and doesn't offer the glitz and glamor of resort mountains. It's still a backdoor beauty for the locals and I hope it can stay that way. You'll have a lot of drive time to other mountains if positioned in Burke and wanting to try something a little different. Jay Peak to the north is a good combo. If you stay in or near St. Johnsbury, you may think about combining days at Loon and Bretton Woods. Watch out for the Olympic hopefuls if you ski Burke - it is also home of Burke Mountain Academy - the first ski academy in the US and has produced 45 Olympians. read more

My wife & I spent an overnight here last night as part of a family get together nearby. Although we only slept and showered here, this facility is simply stunning. Very scenic. From a facilities standpoint, the construction and decor is at a level that I personally have not seen or experienced before. Loved the combination of wood and stone all throughout - from the exterior all the way to the bathrooms of the rooms themselves. I love Burke. It is a tiny gem nestled in the northeast kingdom that many people might not know about because of some of their bigger neighbor mountains nearby. Burke has had quite the makeover recently. They now have a hotel, 4 places to eat and drink, and multiple fun activities besides skiing and snowboarding. The staff is friendly and always willing to assist. Be aware, this is a very family friendly environment, there is even a professional ski academy on site, so there is not much nightlife around here, and if it is it is usually surrounded by kids. Which isn't a bad thing if it is what you're looking for because they always have fun kids activities like sledding, movie nights, and other awesome events. Check out their site for more. BURKE CAMPGROUND- It is clean, but the service was a little rude, and there was heavy construction going on starting at 6am several hundred feet from our campsite, making it a pretty rough sleep. Mostly I want to warn people that they keep your credit card number on file when you make a reservation, and 6 weeks after my only stay with them they charged my card for a 3 day visit I didn't make, and didn't believe me when I called and told them that I hadn't stayed there. I had to report it as fraud to my bank, cancel the card they charged, etc. The campground doesn't check ID or license plates for its guests, so they have no way of knowing if a person is who they claim to be, and during my one actual visit, I felt the place was disorganized in terms of communication, so its easy to see how the fraud occurred. Despite them being the most convenient campground for Burke Mountain and Kingdom Trails, I won't stay with them ever again. read more

The gem of the east coast! This is the perfect place for families AND more advanced skiers. There are some of the best tree runs on the east coast at Burke and also perfect beginner terrain. Enjoy very friendly staff, low-key atmosphere, and reasonably-priced cafeteria food at Burke. The ONLY downside to this quaint VT ski mountain (who puts out some amazing world-class skiers through Burke Mountain Academy) is the slow upper quad chair. But, maybe it's the well-needed rest after a great run down the Dippers! read more

We've been coming to Burke for 5-6 years and we absolutely love it. We are a family of five from Massachusetts. 1. The staff is excellent - friendly, hardworking, helpful and just plain nice. The folks at guest services, the folks in the cafe, and the folks in the ski repair shop were all terrific. One of the staff in the dining room cheered up my five year old when he was having a crying fit. 2. The mountain - well maintained and challenging. We are at the point where our kids can ski the lower mountain by themselves and they can handle the upper mountain with us. Conditions are always as good as they can be. I won't pretend to be anything but a type 2 skier - and in my opinion the upper mountain at Burke has some terrific terrain. They are blue trails that would be black except for their width and condition. 3. The lessons. Every year, our kids take a lesson or two at Burke and their instructors are kind, patient, and expert. The instructors really advance our kids - year after year. And even if they don't want to go, they enjoy it. We just skied two terrific days there. I really always enjoy the mountain and I would say that the staff is outstanding. Every person I dealt with from the lift operators to the cashiers was terrific. I can't wait to go back. read more

We found Burke Mountain through Groupon and got a great deal so decided to give it a try. It is off the beaten path, but conditions were perfect powder with no ice at all. There was never much of a line and trails were never crowded. The main mountain will be very challenging for beginners, but there are easier trails and terrain parks on a different part of the mountain. The new lodge apparently opened around September 2016 under new management and contains amenities such as a ski shop, several restaurants, arcade, ski lockers for guests, heated outdoor pool and outdoor hot tub. The ski shop stocks a lot of local Vermont made products. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing slightly off were some of items on the Willoughby menu. However the staff made it more than right. Overall we loved Burke and will return! I would not be surprised if it is a lot busier the next time we make the trip from Massachusetts. read more

Nice mountain. Two lifts service the entire place, which is different, but they never have much of a crowd so you don't have to deal with lift lines even given the 2 lift situation. The top of the hill is a beautiful mix of slopes - glades and trails. They are all steep though, so the top of the mountain is expert oriented only. The bottom of the hill is much more beginner friendly. Downside is that there are some flat spots that require some effort to get to slopes/lifts. Overall a fun mountain. I'd hit it up more if it weren't such a long drive for me. read more

This place was great compared to a lot of the New England ski areas that I've been to. Because it is so far away from most of the major metros, it is not crowded at all and the lift lines are non-existent. It's not a huge mountain. There are only two lifts - one that goes from the bottom to mid-mountain, and one that goes from mid-mountain to the top. There are also two j-bar lifts. However, they do have a pretty decent variety of terrain, and as an intermediate skier, I wasn't bored at all. The rentals were brand new and in great condition, which was a nice surprise. And they gave a student discount to an old grad student like me, so that was also a nice surprise. The condo we stayed in was also pretty cheap when split between 5 people, so I'd definitely go back, and highly recommend this place. read more

BURKE IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE! Ive been coming to this mountain religiously for 12 years and every year they manage to slowly decline. However in Burke's defense, in recent years after the Q incident, they have manage to change the trend..... that is until this year (2021/2022). Right from the start when every mountain in New England is Blowing snow, Burke loves to keep the pumps off. And when they "can" run them keep worrying because chances are they are blowing for a BMA trail only. Also, every season pass holders money goes right into the higher managements pockets and they don't give a damn about us! It also gets better.... When the Mid Burke express lift shuts down for a week due to "wind-hold" (which by the way I thought lifts could run when it's 3 mph winds). They wont say it broken! This mountain keeps lying over and over and they will never change their responses to guest. Don't believe me? Look up about some of the BURKES TBAR promotions on THE new world class lift FOR THE PUBLIC.... Go back and look up these news articles because ever since that lift open it hasn't seen a single day of public use.... Burke if you see this. It's not hard to tell the truth once in a while. Update: Went there again this weekend and damn! DO NOT miss the East Bowl area. It's a hike for snowboarders, but the deep pow pow and natural jumps are soooo worth it! Love this place! ******************** Burke Mountain is a great place to snowboard and ski. I recently spent a weekend there and had a blast. The snow was great, nicely groomed, and I don't think I waited longer than 2 minutes in any lift line. It's kind of a mom n' pop mountain-- not commercial at all, like a lot of other places in VT/NH. It's really chill and lots of fun. One thing to note is that a lot of their intermediate trails might as well be black diamonds, compared to other ski places up North...they are super hard and steep. But still fun, if you like that kind of thing! And the green trails are really really easy, but there aren't many of them, and none of them run from the summit. Another thing to note is that if you're renting, apparently they only have step-in bindings for snowboarders...my friends that rented did not enjoy them at all. So if you don't have your own gear, you may want to rent off-mountain. Other than that it's good times all around. And the condo we rented, which we could snowboard right onto the main trails from, was beautiful and had amazing views of Franconia Notch. read more

Icy conditions. Partly due to the weather but lack of snow making and truthfully they should close the upper mountain when it's icy and unsafe. I know it's a business but when you see people carried down on stretchers, clearly the conditions are an issue. read more

Not recommended. Going there with high hopes of some great turns ended up with a terrible hassle before even getting on the mountain. The terrain was average and somewhat forgettable. This mountain haven has seemingly lost it's charm. read more

Burke is a charming small New England Mountain that may not have the most challenging trails but makes up for it with short lift lines and zero attitude from staff and other customers. Maybe because it's a slow Saturday with mild temps and wonderful sunshine, but I would definitely say give Burke a try. If you are skiing/snowboarding to show how "extreme" you are- avoid this place. If you are looking to enjoy the action of skiing and riding or learn how to ski/ride- then come here. Distance from Boston is pretty good. You can hit Cannon on the way up if you'd like. Lyndonville has plenty of affordable restaurants and lodging to offer. With all factors considered- this mountain will not disappoint. read more

I am beyond disgusted right now with the Q Burke Hotel and Conference Center. My friends and I booked this almost two months ago and not once was there a mention that the hotel may not even be open for this timeframe or at all! This piece of information would have been very helpful at the time of booking. I get a voicemail to call the hotel back regarding my reservation and NO apology for the inconvenience and last minute cancellation. Disgraceful customer service!! There are now 6 of us scrambling to find accommodations for Nembafest weekend. Thank you for that. Much appreciated! None of us will EVER stay at the Q Burke when we return to the area and for Nembafest in the years to come. read more

I was recently introduced to Burke mountain through friends, and I have to say, it is a great little mountain nestled in a small, low key town! I love that there is rarely a wait at the lift line, and there is room to link turns once you get to the top. There is some nice tree skiing as well, and East Bowl is great when there is powder, and if you're willing to do a little hiking, (I'm a snowboarder). I'm a recovering Colorado snow junkie, so it's been tough for me to transition to riding back east again, but if you're looking for a low-key, small mountain feel, I'd recommend Burke any day! read more

I was warned about Burke Mountain but I tried it anyway. Unfortunately it was a complete waste of time and money. The mountain itself has some of the most boring trails in New England. Some of the staff are outstanding but you get a distinct feeling that there is contempt for the customer from the top down. The bathrooms were disgusting. The management is clearly not doing its job here. There are so many other choices. Stay away. read more

My sentiments on leaving Burke were plain sad. This could be a very nice family mountain. The other reviews (albeit 5 years old) suggest it was at one time. Unfortunately, our experience was severely disappointing. We know the pitfalls of Xmas skiing on the East coast. The weather doesn't always cooperate. On this occasion there had been some rain a few days before and many mountains in Vermont were recovering from that. But Burke was by far the worst affected and they had a mere 9 out of 50 trails open on Jan 2 when we went. Whether you measure by % of trails or % of terrain this was by some distance the worst of any Vermont mountain. On their upper mountain (where all the intermediate and advanced terrain is), there was basically only 1 route down the mountain open. We had planned to spend 2 days at Burke (and bought tickets in advance). But there was clearly no way we could spend 2 days skiing 1 trail down! So we asked to speak to the Manager to ask if he could refund our second day. We initially were put through to the General Manager who was quite understanding and said he would see what we could do. He promised to meet us the following morning. He never showed up. Instead, we got to speak with the co-owner, Ary Quiros . We patiently explained the situation to him and in particular asked why there were so few trails opened. In response, he told us the following. He and his partner had purchased Burke and found their snow-making equipment was archaic - from the seventies. They had made a large investment and their priority was to build a hotel to "try and develop a customer base". As a result, they had no planned new investment for the ski resort. We were totally shocked by this response. Firstly, Mr. Quiros seemed to have no interest in the ski mountain at all. Secondly, what he said was totally at odds with Burke's website, which joyfully depicts their extensive snowmaking equipment and beautifully groomed slopes. I responded to Mr Quiros that the best way to develop a customer base was to ensure the skiing experience was as good as possible. After all, nobody is going to come to a hotel in Northern Vermont in winter to hang out by the pool ... Burke has some interesting terrain, but it is poorly looked after and the attitude of the owner simply stinks. I would stay away until there is clear evidence that the ski mountain becomes the priority. read more

Awful, customer service was terrible! I had booked a long weekend over MLK day back in October. All set to go, then I get a call from them saying the hotel isn't finished?? Really? You took my money though and held it for 3 months!! Barely an apology, simply credited my money and offered me absolutely NOTHING for ruining my plans for the weekend two weeks prior to them!! My favorite mountain. Great runs, low prices, and no lines. NO LINES! The bottom of the mountain is all green trails but the top has a little bit of everything from tough glades to an easy trail from the top to the bottom. This makes the mountain good for all levels. New lifts (hi- speed quads) make it the lines move extremely quickly if there is any line. Non- holiday days I never saw a line. read more

Went to Lyndon State College and skied here a lot in the late 90's. Love the laid back atmosphere here and lack of crowds. Recently purchased by the group that owns Jay Peak, so hopefully it doesn't change too much. Awesome mountain bike trail system shared with Kingdom Trails. read more

Absolutely great bright sunny day. Despite the lack of natural snow in the northeast, Burke's snowmaking and grooming made for a wonderful morning today. The new (this year) high speed detachable quad gives faster access to all the best trails than the old lift. read more
