On my home from our Christmas vacation at the wildflower inn and I just have to give them an excellent review. Having lost my father two years ago, Christmas at home would never be the same, so my family has made it tradition to travel for the holidays. The wildflower was a perfect choice. The innkeepers and the staff were superb, as was the view and the food. The whole place was picture perfect and ripped from a Norman Rockwell painting or a hallmark movie. We cannot wait to return. Beautiful setting. A great place to grab a bed, if you plan to spend several days exploring the area NEK bike trails system. And they appear to have a nice disc golf on property. We were in the area to do some hiking, and that was convenient. The pickle ball court/s are/were in very rough shape. The heated pool was a bit chilly. Views from the restaurant are spectacular. Food is adequate. The room had some fresh paint, but also some needed repairs. There was no comfortable place/chair for sitting. The TV is plugged into a switch controlled outlet - took a bit to sort that out. Mattress got the job done. Pillows were not very good. This "inn" is a bit of glorified motel in a wonderful setting. We stayed two nights in the cozy and charming schoolhouse on our way from skiing in NH to Smuggler's Notch in late January and made it just in time for a beautiful sunset. Set off by itself a short walk from the inn, the schoolhouse offers complete privacy in a very romantic setting. Really nice bathroom, too. We stayed in the same room 2 years ago and at that time a continental breakfast was included. This year, a made to order breakfast for $12 pp was offered instead, which was delicious and very filling before a day of skiing at nearby Burke Mt. Our waitress both mornings, Katy, was so friendly and provided excellent service. We look forward to staying in the schoolhouse again! read more

We were heading to Quebec to meet up with friends for the NYE celebration. We decided to break up the drive and stopped at Wildflower for the night. At first, you wonder where you are going, with a long dirt road, but once there, what a beautiful spot. The views, the rustic feel, and the great hospitality. The rooms were a bit outdated, but still clean and met our needs. The restaurant/bar offered us great options for a late-night dinner and a beer. The staff was very friendly and though the kitchen was working hard to keep up with the orders, it was still a nice evening. In the morning, you can stop by continental breakfast and enjoy the incredible views of the mountain area and snowmobile trails. Wow...could not imagine what it would look like in October. Being a solo senior and not having travelled in many years, I was seeking a peaceful, minimal hassle holiday. The opposite occurred. I booked the first night thru Expedia @ $282.5 and the subsequent 4 nights costing $245/ night with the Wildflower. Breakfast was not included. Arrived about 8:30 PM on Sunday, October 5 by driving from Burlington airport. Weary. I was given a key for Room 111. Alas the TV did not turn on, there was only a shower, the sheets and pillows were incredibly substandard, there was no view, and an old AC unit in the window. Did not sleep at all well in what seemed to be a "servant's" or room for staff. Then next morning tried to change rooms and notified the front desk about the TV. A polite staff member came to the room to test the TV and promised she would contact a technician about the TV. No one ever showed up. Another sleepless night and then I was able to be transferred to a room in the same building - this had a small (1/2) bathtub (which I had been requesting from the first moment at the Inn), cottonish sheets, a TV which functioned, a small fridge. Call it a minimal standard room. Reserved a evening table at the restaurant. When I arrived there on time I was asked "Just one?" and was told to wait. After all the other waiting diners were escorted in, I too was seated after another "Just one?" The portions were generous, the shrimp flavorful. After that reception I was grateful for any service at all. The overall experience was festering in my mind and I asked to speak with Jennifer, the manager. A few bitter complaints later she granted me yet another room for my last night there - Room 402. It sat on the brow of the hill and had a fine valley overlook. The room itself had been modernized with a large king bed and cotton bedding, a 3/4 bathtub, a modern heating and air system - the sort of room I had initially envisioned... and it was restful. It was of the same standard as my final vacation night's room - at the Burke Mountain Hotel - which would have charged $183 for a Thursday night, and did ask $250 for that Friday night. The Burke Mountain's tab included breakfast, a fitness room, and outdoor jacuzzi. When I returned home there was a $27 upcharge for Room 402 on my credit card. The amount was tiny but the hospitality principle seemed perverse at the least. I complained by phone and Jennifer immediately dropped the upcharge. I suppose one lesson might be lone travelers are seen as second class citizens - I hope that is not always the case. read more

Sorry no food pics, but some of the highlights: Fried Ravioli, sourdough boule, brazed short ribs, chicken marsela, 14 oz strip steak. I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately staying there some four nights in an overpriced dimly lit, stained carpet, broken tv, old bugs smashed into ceilings, stained bathroom toilet and sink, caked hair in corners of dated tiled bathrooms. Such a pleasant staff, nice enough breakfast, and absolutely gorgeous grounds. Please don't just rely on how pretty a location you all have there. Please update your rooms, you could have something really special there. read more

My husband and I booked one night at the Wildflower Inn so we could attend a funeral. We were told to arrive at 4pm, which we did. I was amazed when we saw our room. The balcony had two metal chairs with so much rust neither of us would sit on them. Inside... no chairs at all, no phone, no clock, damaged flea market quality furniture, non-working television, tiny refrigerator with food in the freezer that made so much noise it sounded like a nor'easter all night, an extremely slow draining shower, one tiny towel rack and no one at the desk after 5pm. We asked to have the tv looked at and while gone to the wake, the tv was replaced and two remotes left. It still did not work and one remote didn't even have batteries. And we were on the backside of a building across the street from these pictures with no view to speak of. All this for $282.00. Give me a break!! We will never, ever go back there. read more

We came at 11:30 am on a Saturday for an early lunch. We asked for indoor seating since it was very hot and humid and they sat us right under a loud air conditioner, all the way in the corner. There was only one other party present, so I'm not sure why they shoved us all the way over there. There were also kind of a ridiculous amount of flies in the dining room? We ordered quickly and then waited a good 20-30 minutes for our lunches (2 salads and a burger) to show up. Since there was only one other party, not sure why this took so long. Once it did finally come out, the food was very good. If you go for food, be sure to have extra time to wait for it.... read more

The stay was poor to fair and I don't see myself staying there again or recommending it to others. My thoughts of the room- Exterior: The wood rot on the of the building made the first impression very poor. Peeling/chipping didn't add charm, just neglect. The patio when entering on the back of building, where you park, had wrapped wood beams that could injury someone if not paying attention. Theres no signage on the property of what the buildings are named eg: Carriage House, school house. This would be a great option other than a map for self navigation, because if you don't know where you are on the map, it's not very helpful. Room: non-family room in Carriage house The bathroom could stand to be remodeled, or at least removal of the unsightly stain in the sink and replacing the knobs one is cracked and missing a center piece of it. The counter that was installed to hold the sink is certainly from the 80s or 90s. I did enjoy a heater in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. There was one upholstered chair in the room. The other two seating options were metal chairs. As one could image metal chairs are NOT relaxing whatsoever. Another upholstered seating option in the room would've been nice. Add-on to your stay: They failed to be mindful when placing overpriced items in the room ahead of the arrival. I arrived at the Inn around 830pm, but knew that was the case and had indicated it on the pre-check in and original reservation. The champagne upon arrival to the room was bathing in a bucket of cold water and cloth napkin sopped onto it. The sweat from the bucket leaked onto the wood furniture causing water ring damage and a paper flyer being stuck it. The champagne should've been delivered to the room closer to my time of arrival or better yet, given to the front desk to deliver to the room upon arrival. OR place something under the bucket to protect your furniture. The antipasto was yummy, however it came with only one cheese knife. I would expect at least two plates, silverware, and napkins, as that menu item is not a finger food. However none of these items were in the room. Just coffee mugs. This place was not my cup of tea. I'll pay a $50 extra to stay down the road the Burklyn Inn next time. read more

Regulars during the previous owners tenure, we came to love the atmosphere, the food, and the people. Change is always difficult and we had to wait a little while until they got the right cook in place. The specialty drinks are conjured up with fresh house-made mixes, providing a clear and lively taste. The artichoke dip is the best you'll get! Fresh and creamy, loaded with artichoke and a crusty cheese topping. The salmon was prepared perfectly with a ginger cider glaze that made my taste buds dance. Served hot and sides were tasty and fresh. Finished off with a dessert martini that was awesome. Just go there! read more

This review is centered on the new trailside snack bar. We stopped for a quick lunch after a decent ride on the trails, the new owners used the outdoor space well and scattered a number of seating options around the area, ordering was easy at the service window, although they were out of the one wrap that looked appealing to us. We both ordered a salad, a single fruit slushie and a soda. With a small tip that order came to just under $50. The salads were well made with nice fresh ingredients, cup of dressing was fairly small and o we all the salads were relatively small for the price. Clearly they are targeting the tourist trail crowd not folks like us who are around all the time.....nice spot, might grab a beverage there but the food, while decent is spendy for what you get. I wish them all the luck.....enough tourist traffic and it is a worthwhile addition. read more

Dated but clean room surrounded by beautiful views. The room had two doors situated directly across from each other so you can walk in one and walk straight out the other side (both doors have three small windows at the top that didn't have curtains). The bright lights from the parking area streamed into our room all night making it hard to sleep. Overall feel was a bit disconcerting. The bathroom is super dated but the towels and soaps are of decent quality. Water pressure is decent but the shower head height has the water hit you at chest level if you are six feet tall. Room had heat but did not appear to have a/c. Oddly - no tv but there is wifi so we used our tablets to stream Netflix. The restaurant was surprisingly excellent - good food and good service. Generous portions and reasonable prices. The bar appeared to be hopping. Choices are limited in the area - this appears to be one of the nicest hotels if you are visiting Dog Mountain. read more

The food took over an hour and a half to come. The employees were very paranoid about the little kids in my party asking them to be quiet and reminding them that they are in a restaurant . There were also only two waitresses throughout the whole place. Definitely do not recommend especially on a busy day. read more

The Wild Flower Inn is a family friendly delightful retreat from hectic city life.  In some ways it reminded me of how things used to be a number of years ago. The inn is located on an old farmstead with 360 degrees of breath taking scenery.  The rooms are comfortable, but without frills.  Even though the rooms were older, they were impeccably clean and comfortable.  Kudos to the housekeeping staff for their attention to detail. The focus of the inn is to provide support for guests to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings.  We joined other family members who came for the rich mountain biking opportunities and the mountain biking camp.  We enjoyed the area for its hiking and casual walking opportunities.  In addition, the property has a pool, badminton area, and scattered areas of outdoor seating.  Wi-Fi is available, but don't come here if you expect TV or a jacuzzi in your bathroom.   An excellent breakfast was included in the room rates with options to eat indoors or outside over looking nature's beauty.  Our extended family tried many items during our week long stay and enjoyed each dish--including Eggs Florentine, Eggs Benedict, Blueberry Pancakes, Belgium Waffles with Strawberries, and a Paleo Egg/Vege/Bacon Entree.  There were "right" choices for each of us; and all were well prepared, cooked to order. We didn't have any young children in our party, but I noticed they also had a special children's menu.  Dinner is not included in the room rate, but the inn is one of the better dining options available in the area.  Without exception the staff at the inn was guest focused, provided four star service, and made every effort to accommodate our requests.  The tone of the resort was casual and friendly--not formal.  The other guests were friendly; children were well behaved and appropriately supervised by their family members.  Our 11 and 13 year old grandsons were also able to make plans to join other similar age kids to go swimming, biking, or play games with some independence.   The pool had no life guard, but it was no problem for us to have an adult poolside. Everyone in our group (ages 11 to 73) had a great time.  I highly recommend this family friendly resort for those who are looking for a relaxing, casual vibe in a beautiful natural setting. Great family-type B&B in North Kingdom for any time of the year. Everything is onsite here. Activities (biking mecca, hiking), animal barn, restaurant, views, relaxation. Pet friendly. You should get out of the room daily, but the point is you don't have to go far. What you don't get is TV or phones. All rooms are configured differently too. If you have specific needs, you need to look closely. Not all rooms have standard items like a refrigerator. There's a lot of information put on on Wildflower. Perhaps too much. I personally like reams full of "what do do when...", but I think this causes some confusion in their marketing approach. They try to appeal to everyone in the market. At it's core, this is a family B&B. I can't confirm any of the negative reviews posted on Wildflower. We found the owners (innkeepers) to be pleasant and responsive. The establishment has been a fixture on Darling Hill Rd since the mid-1980's and their restaurant (Junipers) fills up nightly. The grounds are well kept. The service is good and the food is excellent. I tend to believe people return because of it. read more

One of the owners, Foster Goodrich, was so thoughtful in wanting us and other guests to have a wonderful stay. He was always on site and wore many hats to ensure things ran smoothly. There were not a lot of employees but each one worked so hard to meet the needs of the guests. Lucas was our server for two nights and he is such a genuinely hardworking young man. He cared about our feedback and it was obvious he wanted us to have a positive experience-which we did. The restaurant menu changed a bit nightly but was thoughtful, well executed, and cared about using local ingredients. Cocktails were very balanced and delicious. Dan, who managed the pool shows pride in the hard work he was doing and seemed also to care about the enjoyment and experience of the guest. Foster truly cared about our experience and I mention it again because even though he was very busy he always made the time to check on us. The room itself was on the property and had what we needed. No tv in the rooms but sitting, walking, biking outside we couldn't pull ourselves away from the living painting we were constantly in awe of that is part of the property. Sunrise, sunset, hills, valleys, trees, grass, never ending skies...and a salt water pool!! This inn is not new per se but they are planning to renovate. Even if they don't renovate we would still come and stay in the very same room we did! Clean room, comfortable bed, clean bathroom. Bathroom fan and heater if you desire to use. This place is by far one of the most interesting and disappointing Vermont Inns that we have ever encountered. Having spent nearly 40 years traveling to Vermont and staying at dozens of Inns across the State, we were really looking forward to our first stay at the Wildflower. Unfortunately, what began with an initial appearance of a blossoming bouquet quickly began to wilt once you left the Inn's grounds and were faced with the dismal, filth stained, stench riddled pen that is your room (or $350.00 per night "Suite" as the Owner would like to bait you with.... ) What a disgrace that a place that looks so great on the outside, would offer such a completely disgusting room on the inside. From furniture that looked as if they picked it off the curb at the end of a college year, to carpet stained with ?? to a postage sized bathroom with mold and mildew creeping out of every crevice. I think the Lyndon Youth Hostel is probably offering a step-up over some of the dumps (Suites!) that the Wildflower is selling. If you like a great setting, beautiful views...BUT don't mind stains, wet dog smell, no air conditioning, broken and used college dorm furniture, salvaged prison mattresses, abundant bathroom mold, rancid breakfasts, grossly overpriced rates, and completely arrogrant, unresponsive and tone-deaf management...this place would be great for you. There are far better places in Vermont to spend $350 per night for a room. read more

This place never fails as a little slice of heaven. Whatever pictures you see never do it proper service. I added the picture of a tree branch because to try to encapsulate all the beauty in one pic is futile. I think the string of negative reviews from three years ago commenting on lushness/cleanliness of rooms are missing the point. It is a farmhouse. It is on a farm. It is appointed, therefore, as a farmhouse is - austere, utilitarian. I have been coming here with my family for 8-9 years, and never noticed a lack of cleanliness. What I did notice, however, is that this is perhaps the most aesthetically lovely place on earth. On a given day, I see hummingbirds, rainbows, and the most beautiful sunset over the valley. I leave here refreshed and with a new outlook on the beauty of life. The people that work here are sincere in their interest in making you happy. And the mountain biking is fantastic. If you need your hotel room to have as much marble/granite as a mausoleum, go to the city. I come here to escape my granite. read more

My husband and I spent Memorial Day weekend at the Wildflower Inn and riding at Kingdom Trails. Our room had a small balcony so we could sit and look at the gorgeous view of the mountains. The room was spacious, the king size bed very comfortable, and the bathroom had fabulous, huge fluffy towels. The only drawback was that when we arrived in our room it was borderline stifling. We put the window AC on and it took most of the evening to cool off. The breakfasts that were included in our stay were fantastic. Every staff person that we spoke to or interacted with was friendly, helpful, and seemed genuinely happy to help. Best of all, it's across the street from Village Sport Shop (Trailside) where we met our guide for our rides. We literally rolled from our room, met our guide, and rolled right onto the trails. read more

Amazing bed and breakfast. We went during the winter a little frightful of what to do with kids in the middle of the nowhere surrounded by snow. That was the last worry we had. There was so much to do. We went sledding, hiking, sight seeing and just relaxed. The classic room was more than big enough to suit the four of us (2 small children and two adults). The room was clean when we arrived and they kept it clean while we where there. We had dinner nightly and went to the large play room to let the kids burn off their energy. We will be going again! I am a little torn about how many 'stars' to give the Wildflower Inn. Two seems like too few, but three ("A-OK") seems a little generous. The pros: location, location, location--it's in an amazing spot, right on the top of Darling Hill and at a central point on the Kingdom Trail network. The restaurant is good and the included breakfast is delicious. The grounds are beautiful--flowers everywhere. The hosts put out freshly-baked cookies each afternoon and there's a small bar in the main building with big windows offering amazing views. They have a bike-storage room in their barn which is handy. Everyone on the staff was very friendly. The cons: the cost. More than $200 a night for a fall weekend which seemed expensive. The room we stayed in (in the building across the street from the main building/office/restaurant) was clean and comfortable enough but a little run-down. I am not particular and have stayed in much worse rooms but they are charging luxury-hotel prices for roadside motel level quality furniture and fixtures. The walls were thin and we could hear the people in the next room, clearly at times. I actually liked that there was no TV in the room; some may feel differently. If you have money to burn and are not fussy about the quality of your room, the WI might be a good choice. But there are better options in East Burke. read more

Hmmm... I wanted to love this place. Judging by the website and pictures, it looks amazing. And actually, the grounds were amazing. Breathtaking... all to expect when staying in a countryside bed and breakfast. The view from the room (looking out the window and NOT in the window) was all that you could ask for- strange looking cows that looked like hogs, fall colors, rolling countryside hills, church steeples, wispy clouds. We took a walk up the path and saw the most gorgeous farm houses, barns and countryside that one could ask for. Driving up the hill, we were in awe (being from the drab Southwest, it was quite the scene). The outside of the inn and all of the grounds was very promising. Now, the total downfall of this whole experience was the entire interior. We were in the FMS (family something rather suites) and it was a complete and utter disappointment. We arrived in the evening to not one light left on for us- walked down a dark, sandy path and fumbled around in the dark to find a small room resembling the equivalent a single-wide trailer decor, furniture, bathtub and the works. YIKES! The furniture may have been outdated, sure- let it be, if that was the only problem. However, it was filthy. The arms of the chairs and the couch cushions were black. The beds were squeaky and so uncomfortable. The carpet was dirty and the maids did not clean the floors (keep in mind the sandy path you walk down every time you need to exit the room) the entire 4 days we were there. It was such a let down. It literally felt like we were staying in the hired help's quarters- I am not sure if that is the case with all of their rooms, but it definitely was with the FMS rooms. We ate breakfast in the main house each morning, which was pleasant. The food was pretty good and they had a nice breakfast bar set up in the mornings. I would recommend the scones- they were yummy! The staff was very nice and gave us good pointers to explore the area during the day. They did provide a few guided tours in a little booklet that we took full advantage of each day. We had ordered a package on the website that gave us our last night at the inn free- we decided to give up our free night and head to Maine because our room left us feeling a little uncomfortable- not clean out of the shower and with a crick in our necks from the beds. If they would just put some time and effort into updating, it would be the best place in the world to stay. After reading some reviews on another trip adviser while we were there, just to see what others thought, we realized we should have done the reading before we booked the room as others felt the same way. Luckily, we found things to keep us busy and avoid the room, which is not the way to be when staying at a B&B- you should be able to take full advantage of the quite pricey rooms!!! If I ever win the lottery, I would love to buy this place and give the interior the attention it deserves- it could be heaven with a little TLC!! read more

This review is for their restaurant, Junipers. It's fantastic! Great locally sourced selections, include local beef. The burger is great! Their brussel sprout salad is an absolute must! They also have a gluten free menu. The atmosphere is quiet and home-like as it's inside their bed and breakfast. The staff is friendly and the management is wonderful. The Inn's views are spectacular. The staff and owners are kind and accommodating. The rooms are not plush or fancy but they are CLEAN and the beds are comfortable. Several different types of rooms and suites to choose from. The Inn is located on the Kingdom Trails so the location is great. We stayed 5 days during the week and not durning the weekend. It was relaxing and beautiful. Golf is very close by as well. We have had a wonderful experience and are looking forward to our next stay! I highly recommend. read more

The WFI is a tremendously relaxing place in a magnificent setting year round. Have now stayed in both Summer and Fall. Great facilities for families with a bonus of a wonderful chapel for prayerful reflection time. This place is simply beautiful and a perfect getaway for us and our dog. We had a spacious one-room suite in upper meadow with a view facing west, just right to watch the sunset as well as the fields and pasture. Serene setting on a country road, away from "civilization". The Inn has several different buildings, petting zoo, pool, batting cages, basketball, and miles of well-marked hiking trails surrounding all of the grounds. This place is incredible. The scenery is fantastic, very much off the beaten track (the road went from paved to gravel before getting there). Lots of trails (hiking and bike) near the place with breathtaking views of the surrounding terrain. The service was excellent, knowledgeable of area attractions, and quite accommodating. Also, not having TV or phones in the rooms was a huge plus for "getting away from it all". The breakfast and dinner were superb. We only went for one night, but we are so going back!!! read more

We stayed over the winter holidays. Wonderful. We came with our two children, ages 17 and 20. We were not disappointed. Our rooms were clean and well maintained. Housekeeping was very available and tidied things up every morning. The inn parking areas, paths, sidewalks, etc. were well groomed. The petting barn was clean and the animals were well cared for and happy. The inn itself was wonderful. The children's playroom has been updated and was comfortable and easy feeling. Even without children, I enjoyed sitting in the playroom to read and relax. The New Year's celebration was wonderful, a great dinner and bonfire to welcome in the New Year. read more

This place is terrific. My wife and I stayed here for three nights. The view from the hotel is beautiful, it's location is very near to I-91 as well as to the main route going towards northern New Hampshire. This is a family-run establishment, and they are all very nice. Furthermore, their restaurant is absolutely excellent in every way. In fact, it is the only place that I've eaten where absolutely everything was just perfectly cooked and very tasty. I strongly recommend this place! Freely plan your stay here! read more
