I'm not sure why people are so grumpy here. First off I like but don't love Burke Nursery and Garden Center. That's because I'm not an outdoor home bush and garden guy. Yet I'm grateful to them every Halloween having excellent family events. My children have enjoyed these, and the employees here are exemplary. Truly good people who have experience and are very polite. I have some plants, and I appreciate their guidance. Like many family owned places, they cannot afford to sell products as cheap as Mass Market retailers like Home Depot. As a relatively broke guy after the mortgage and other bills are paid, I often go where I can save some money. They do have farm fresh beef for sale. It's so much better than what you'll find at the grocery store. This is an extremely nice place and they have a lot of plants, trees, and flowers to choose from.

My boyfriend took me to this nursery as a surprise! I was greeted by a chubby kitty that followed us around the place, super cute! We went straight to the nursery, they did have some good plants and all looked really healthy! I picked the Swiss cheese Monstera Adansonii and a Syngonium seen in picture. I gave it 4 stars because I have been to bigger nurseries and they have mostly large to medium pots, limited plant options on small sizes! But it is cold weather so I understand! I will def be back in spring!

I got everything in this photo minus a few of the rocks. I love it! I had to have something green and pink in the house for the so called snow coming up. Let's see what Mother Nature brings up tonight.

As someone who grew up in the area, it was a pleasant surprise to learn there was such a great pumpkin play area nearby. I took my 17 month old and 4 year old with a preschool field trip yesterday and was so happy to see a few things: first, the low cost for admission of $10. There are full size bathrooms and also portable bathrooms down where the kids area is, with a nice baby changing station! This is so rare to find and I was so glad to find it here! There were so many options for the kids to play that even though it was very crowded with school groups, it did not feel crowded. There were also more than enough picnic tables for everyone to eat at. The parking was plentiful and the staff were very well organized. My only issue I have is the hayride. For something that seems marketed toward little kids, the decor for the hayride was pretty scary. It started off pretty funny with dancing skeletons, but then there were more than a few scary masked creatures in coffins and hanging from trees. I think there should at least be a warning because I have another son who would have been terrified. Another thing I will add that isn't a concern, but more a tip, is that because of how the play things are built, it's very easy to lose track of your child if you have more than one with you. I suggest either going with multiple adults or in a group where you can help each other watch the kids. There are huge carpet slides that are so fun, but it's hard to see your kid at the top and get to the bottom by the time they go down.

Love their fall market setup. So instagrammable! :) I was looking for a cool place to take photos with my little hooman for his first fall and halloween and I found them in one of my friends instagram post. It's not a huge market but you'll find cool stuff in every corner and fresh produce. :)

We came here to get our Christmas tree and it is still up after more than a month with watering. Our tree is really beautiful and I'm glad we got it at the local nursery.

The face you make when Burke Nursery says you can bring dogs but then says you can't bring dogs when you get there.

I know quite a few that have been put out of business because of the chain home improvement stores. When you go to Merrifield, you will be bathed in the amazing living variety that can be brought to your home, for indoors and outdoors. The selection is beyond anything I've ever seen, and the staff clearly loves the business. You can browse hundreds of plant and flower options indoors And they also have an amazing selection of patio adornments. The best was my experience today. I needed a garden hose adapter. Sounds simple enough, but this is so uncommon that all of the local chains didn't have anything, and one young man in an orange apron Ron suggested I just get it on Amazon. I stopped here at Merrifield, and they also did not have it in stock. But the gentleman at the counter Suggested that he'd be happy to make one for me if I wouldn't mind waiting for a few minutes. And he jumped into action, grabbing the hose and fittings that he needed and manufactured what I needed for me on the spot. That his old-fashioned service deserves a lot more than just five stars. Please bring them your business!

I've heard great things about Merrifield and though I've visited before, I hadn't bought anything. I took some pics of my lawn, some of the current grass/weeds/plants growing and went to their help desk. It was mid-week, so not too busy. Craig was working the desk and so I don't bury the lead... he was AMAZING. I explained what I was trying to do, that I really knew nothing, and though I had done a little research, I didn't want to trust everything I had read/watched. He walked me through my options. I don't care much about what is growing, just that we have good coverage. Clover was something I was interested in. He explained the clover options as well as some low-maintenance grass options. He even spent a lot of time helping me understand about aerating since it was something I wanted to know more about. I decided to go with grass and clover, hoping a mix might balance between lawn and something for the pollinators. As the spots were relatively small, he said I could just hand spread, especially with the clover seeds being so tiny. While prices are a little higher than the big box stores, looking into this, the products seem to be of a higher quality. Luckily my issue was sort of small to start with so I felt it was a good investment.

Dear Mr. Meadows, I…read morewish to thank you for having such a customer friendly company! In the past 3 weeks, I have purchased plants in your Leonardtown, Leesburg, Reston, and Great Falls (Rt. 7) locations. In addition, I have had Pepe Ayulo (in your landscape division) plant a screen of Leyland Cyprus and plan a patio for our home. Each time that I visited your locations I received high quality plants and GREAT customer service! The climax was when I asked for our patio to be scheduled around my vacation and surgery. Erin Glascock called and worked with me to find the best date possible. She was fantastic! I am still waiting for Long fence to schedule my fence installation and I contracted them first! Erin was professional, warm, understanding, and accommodating! I will definitely continue to buy my plants from your stores and refer my friends for all of your services! Thank you, Jim James B. The woman who checked us out was an absolute delight, warm, funny, and exactly what you hope for at a local farm stand. Unfortunately my experience in the herb section was the opposite. When I asked about strawberry plants and was told they didn't have any, I mentioned I was a first time gardener and asked if she could recommend something beginner friendly. Her response was essentially "just pick something, all you have to do is water them." When I explained again that I was new and looking for guidance, she told me she couldn't help me. As a first time gardener trying to learn, that kind of dismissiveness was discouraging. If it weren't for the lovely woman at checkout, I likely wouldn't return. I ended up going to Ed's Plant World in Brandywine where the staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful to a beginner. The difference was night and day. That said, I'm giving 4 stars because the place is really awesome in terms of selection and variety. The woman in the herb section may have just been having a bad day. It's absolutely worth checking out.
