This place is unbelievably disorganized and inefficient. First you wait in a line outside for someone to write your purchases on a sheet of paper- if the price isn't labeled they just guess. Then. I arrived last night at 6:40 PM, a full 20 minutes before your supposed 7:00 PM closing time advertised online. A polite employee confirmed I had a 15-minute window to grab some pumpkins, which was perfectly fine. However, a grand total of two minutes later, I was aggressively approached by a second male employee--presumably someone picking up trash--who flat-out ordered me to leave because they were "closing in five minutes because it's dark." The sheer incompetence of having staff provide diametrically opposed closing times, followed by one of them being unnecessarily rude, is astonishing. I don't care about your overpriced donuts or your expensive pumpkins, but for the prices you charge, your staff needs to be taught basic customer decorum and how to read a clock. This was a completely unwelcoming and unacceptable experience. read more

I'm not sure why people are so grumpy here. First off I like but don't love Burke Nursery and Garden Center. That's because I'm not an outdoor home bush and garden guy. Yet I'm grateful to them every Halloween having excellent family events. My children have enjoyed these, and the employees here are exemplary. Truly good people who have experience and are very polite. I have some plants, and I appreciate their guidance. Like many family owned places, they cannot afford to sell products as cheap as Mass Market retailers like Home Depot. As a relatively broke guy after the mortgage and other bills are paid, I often go where I can save some money. They do have farm fresh beef for sale. It's so much better than what you'll find at the grocery store. This is an extremely nice place and they have a lot of plants, trees, and flowers to choose from. read more

My boyfriend took me to this nursery as a surprise! I was greeted by a chubby kitty that followed us around the place, super cute! We went straight to the nursery, they did have some good plants and all looked really healthy! I picked the Swiss cheese Monstera Adansonii and a Syngonium seen in picture. I gave it 4 stars because I have been to bigger nurseries and they have mostly large to medium pots, limited plant options on small sizes! But it is cold weather so I understand! We came here for the pumpkin patch. We wanted a fun fall activity for my toddler. Everyone seemed respectful in wearing a mask, and it was pretty open for people to mingle and take fun pictures. Inside the tent was a little more difficult to socially distance, so I didn't spend much time there except to actually pay. I thought it was super cool that in addition to your traditional looking pumpkins for carving, they had several other types. You can also purchase apples, cider, and apple cider donuts. We got some great pumpkins for carving and a dozen donuts. All in all, a cool and quick local experience and good photo op for kids. read more

Burke Nursery has set up their Halloween area and there are pumpkins galore! This is NOT a fall festival-it's free and definitely geared towards the under 7 set. There are a couple of slides and climbing areas, but it's mostly just places to pose for pictures. Be sure to check out the market for hot apple cider donuts in addition to a variety of sauces, jellies, jams, etc. I've also shopped here for plants/flowers and pots. The prices are reasonable and they have a wide selection of different flowers, plants, herbs, trees, etc. I like supporting local businesses, and if you do too, I highly recommend skipping Walmart, Home Depot, and Lowes; instead stopping in to Burke Nursery for all of your gardening needs. read more

We've been going to Burke Nursery for years! I have not had any of the problems everyone is complaining about. It's a family run business so prices on some items are bound to be high . Not to mention that small family businesses are going to run higher than Home Depot and Lowe's. Christmas trees can be bought anywhere , and if there is a spider infestation in one of them... it happens to a tree. These things are not always visible to the purchaser when the truck arrives. I am familiar with Nalls but have never gone there. I actually know some of the family. But I think some of these reviews are petty . Not to mention if you come later in a season you can't expect to find what you want . No place is 100 percent perfect for every customer. That's why there are several of these around for shopping. The one I liked most , owned by a family that established seasonally in parking lots, was run out by Whole Foods! ( they just needed to have those parking spots ) They lost their family business!! So sorry some of you got the wrong sales person on your visit, didn't find what you wanted, your tree had unexpected visitors , the hanging plant containers were a plastic you didn't like( they are all the same everywhere) etc. , etc. Let's be nice and take advantage of all the choices we have . I know I'm being partial , but I just had to say something . I've lived in this area for over 30 years and I enjoy going to Burke Nursery even when I don't find what I want. I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews. Everything about my experience was great. I called ahead to see if they had any cardinal flowers left. After cheerfully offering to check, they said they did and checked one more time to confirm it was the right color. When I arrived I was the only one there on a late weekday evening before they closed. Multiple staff members offered to help me. Their selection of plants, pots, and trellises was impressive. They had heavy-duty trellises I've only seen on Wayfair. They also have a serious water garden section, which is hard to find, with several sleeper ponds to hold plants. I went there for a cardinal flower and like any good gardener came home with more pond plants (Pink Blue Bells, swamp milkweed, Joe Pye Weed). I highly recommend them. read more

As someone who grew up in the area, it was a pleasant surprise to learn there was such a great pumpkin play area nearby. I took my 17 month old and 4 year old with a preschool field trip yesterday and was so happy to see a few things: first, the low cost for admission of $10. There are full size bathrooms and also portable bathrooms down where the kids area is, with a nice baby changing station! This is so rare to find and I was so glad to find it here! There were so many options for the kids to play that even though it was very crowded with school groups, it did not feel crowded. There were also more than enough picnic tables for everyone to eat at. The parking was plentiful and the staff were very well organized. My only issue I have is the hayride. For something that seems marketed toward little kids, the decor for the hayride was pretty scary. It started off pretty funny with dancing skeletons, but then there were more than a few scary masked creatures in coffins and hanging from trees. I think there should at least be a warning because I have another son who would have been terrified. Another thing I will add that isn't a concern, but more a tip, is that because of how the play things are built, it's very easy to lose track of your child if you have more than one with you. I suggest either going with multiple adults or in a group where you can help each other watch the kids. There are huge carpet slides that are so fun, but it's hard to see your kid at the top and get to the bottom by the time they go down. read more

We bought our Christmas tree here last year and though it was expensive, we enjoyed the atmosphere and had a coupon from the mail that brought the price down to roughly $100. We felt good about supporting a local business. This year, we wanted to do the same and support a small business instead of a big box store. We couldn't believe how high the prices were. The first 6ft tree we liked was $129.99! We felt so bad leaving but especially during these times, it's just not possible to spend that much on a tree. We went to Home Depot and spent $54 for a similarly sized tree. We would have been fine spending $30-50 more to support a local business but spending $75 more was just out of the question. Hopefully they reconsider their pricing in the future! We did buy our mulch this summer from here and enjoyed the customer service and have no complaints about the quality. read more

They were attentive when getting the business but once they were done we're never available or responsive afterwards. I had dead plants or questions that were never answered. Going through all of the firewood companies around, nursery had reasonable prices and a a bunch of different sizing options so I can asnt committing to a full cord of questionable wood grade Picked up a 1/4 of a cord for around 130. Not bad wood, some knotty, only a piece or two has beenn green enough to bubble, most of it burns really well. It does come cut a little large for my liking but I don't mind splitting it down myself. Trying to find some wood at a reasonable price at the beginning of winter can be a pain, but burke nursery came through. read more

Nothing else really to offer and so we bought a couple pumpkins which were expensive and left. I purchased a pine tree here less than a year ago and planted it myself like I've done so many times and The $180.00 tree died and according to one of the associates there's no guarantee unless they plant it. I live about a 1/2 mile from this place and I visit often, but I will never return, I'm very disappointed with the poor customer service. read more

My wife and I had a lovely visit to Burke Nursery on Sunday - the property is well maintained, the selection of plants is overwhelming, and the staff are incredibly friendly. We were given a business card for the on-staff horticulturist in case we ever wanted professional advice in the future, and we signed up for their email list. Absolutely love the sheer size, convenient location and abundant products that this nursery has to offer. I prefer to buy plants at other locations but this is the best spot for bulk/bagged products like compost and soil as well as for pumpkins in the Fall. The customer service you get is very hit or miss - there is one woman that answers the phones that clearly wishes she could be anywhere but there and she makes you feel it lol. But overall, awesome place. The fall festival is so awesome (pre-COVID times of course). Really prefer my $ going here than going to Home Depot or some of the other larger nurseries in the area. read more

My friends took us here this weekend. The entrance was $13 per person (toddlers up to 24 months is free). The entrance fee includes access to the playground, hayrides and a pumpkin per person. They have so many wooden play sets - pirate ship, train, wagon and trailer, airplane, pumpkin, fire engine, tractor. They also had 2 pretty decent slides, a barrel roll area, swings, and they also had a few coin operated rides that are totally free. The hay ride was fun. The extras were a $5 pony ride, $2 moon bounce, $2 wobble wagon ride, face painting and balloon twisting. They had a good stand and 2 large picnic areas. For the money and how close it is to the beltway I will definitely be back with my 5 year old. He had a blast. The area is clean, well maintained and manned. I would recommend to anyone with a kid. There is plenty of variety for every kid. I'm giving it a 4 star because the food was so so. read more

Loyal customer for 45 years. Unfortunately moving on. Xmas trees this year were priced more than double what I've paid for the last 15 years. Their supplies and plants are always 10-20% more costly than the bigger competition. Customer service is hit or miss, and in the end I'm taking my business elsewhere. The Christmas tree mark up was just the final straw. Alway believed supporting local Burke business was important but it's just not worth it anymore Very disappointing. Burke nursery is a great place to visit at anytime of year. In the fall, they have great pumpkins, mums and homemade treats, as well as hay rides and games for the kids. My family and I have been going here for everything from flowers, firewood, pumpkins, and even great chocolate milk. This is definitely the best nursery and garden in the area. read more

True story: Friday was my birthday and my husband asked me what I wanted to do, and I knew immediately: go to Burke Nursery! I've been driving past on my way to my kids school and have just been ENCHANTED by the gorgeous colors and the lush, full plants. Plus, I'd been to Home depot a few days before (my daughter broke a piece of my new microwave and, I kid you not, the replacement piece to the $200 microwave was $79 !) and to try to cheer myself up, I went to the attached Garden center. Everything looked so sad, and HELLO! Even if I'd wanted to buy a sad little plant, there was nobody around to help me. But fast forward to my wonderful morning at Burke Nursery: TONS of friendly employees, people knowledgeable about the best variety of vegetables and herbs, as well as the best flowers for my slightly shady window boxes. Outside service is AWESOME and I go back often. Inside concurring with other reviews the lady with the short brown hair & glasses she must be related to the owner or in charge because the other staff defer to her. Every time she's there every time there can be one person in the store and the line will build for no reason because 4 staff will be there but they all defer to her. No one will serve the next person till she does that's how the line builds. if there's a return even with a receipt she makes it extra hard. Again outside staff are so often I recommend this place over and over again I just prepare myself and my friends for a long wait on on the inside. read more

All the staff there were so nice and friendly. They had a pretty awesome selection of indoor, and outdoor plants and everything from major landscape items to little potted plants and accessories. Also, I took my dog who is well behaved but a little apprehensive about strangers that try to touch him. They all were super funny about petting him and he carefully chose who to get pets from. All in all, my calathea's that I bought and my little Hiawatha are still thriving two months later and I'm definitely going back next time I feel like getting more plants! read more

My only comment is that it lists that dogs are welcome. Sadly, this place is not dog friendly anymore. They used to have a huge friendly cat that could care less about dogs. But, since they have a new cat that is shy and terrified of dogs, dogs are no longer welcome. You cannot enter the store with a dog to pay for your items and can't go anywhere near an employee holding this cat.' We have been going to Burke Nursery for YEARS to get our Christmas tree. They have typically lasted for way past Christmas. Not sure where Burke is now getting their trees these last few years. Three years ago the tree had a bug infestation, last year and this year the trees look amazing and by the 2nd week stopped drinking water and starting dropping their needles. Last Christmas the tree was so dried out by Christmas, we had to take it down by Christmas evening. This year's tree is doing the exact same thing. For as much as they charge, we just cannot do this another year. Will try another nursery next year. read more

My lawn was "unattended" this year (to be polite) and became riddled with more weeds than grass. If you're looking for firewood, go somewhere else. Complete waste of money. If you think all firewood is created equal, think again. Should have known better when I pulled in and saw the giant pile of uncovered firewood. I bought a 1/4 cord for $137.79. Felt heavy when I loaded it into car but shrugged it off. Come to find it's completely water logged. They claim it's "treated" but that doesn't matter if it sits out in the rain for months. I called to complain but all I could get were 2 bags of "hot sticks" that were "on the house". Turns out hot sticks are just firewood that hasn't been left out in the rain. Tried drying out the wood inside the house for a week. Still completely WORTHLESS. Again save your money. Terrible experience. read more

I was looking for a nursery, because Home Depot just cannot cut it. The reviews here weren't fabulous, but the reasons didn't seem too substantial, so I decided to give it a try. (Plus, the nursery I wanted to go to closes early, so I needed somewhere with later hours.) There is a great variety of plants here: flowers, herbs, shrubs, trees. The carts are easy to use. I am very happy with the quality of the plants I bought, and the value for the price. The only reason I'm not giving this nursery 5 stars is the lack of customer service. Nobody was rude; but nobody was enthusiastic about helping me. It's too bad that the reviews for the nursery are 1) so few, and 2) mixed in with reviews for events that are held here. I wouldn't ordinarily be inclined to write a review after a visit like mine to this nursery today... but there are so few reviews here, and none that I felt really described what I could expect.
