Being served out of a cute little truck. In the middle of Hartford. Walking distance from where I work. It sounded too good to be true. And it was. I ordered shrimp pad Thai, the Thai equivalent to spaghetti bolognese at an Italian restaurant. When I opened up the Styrofoam treasure chest full of shrimp pad Thai (ordered mildly spicy), my mouth watered. Upon the first taste I was immediately confused. My pad Thai tasted more like lo mien... and all of a sudden my mouth and lips were on fire. I was immediately thrown from pad Thai bliss to being unable to pronounce my "P's" or "B's" from my mouth being numbed from the spicy burning. Apart from the very startling bite from whatever "mild" spice my dish had been flavored with, my pad Thai was devoid of any flavor. The only way to tell the difference between the ingredients was by the texture, everything just had the same salty, weak, HOT taste. On the bright side, for the $7 I paid, the dish had a fair amount of shrimp, all of which were cooked to perfection. They were succulent but unfortunately, also lacking flavor. They made me crave cocktail sauce. Not a good sign. All in all, I won't be returning to this mirage of delicious Thai food. Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, Cookie Diet, action figures that fly on their own, Thai Food On Wheels, you've let me down.

It was really filling and tasty. But the real winner from the cart after a few visits was the avocado spring roll, which was $3.50 and the size of a burrito. It was basically a giant fresh roll filled with avocado, lettuce, cabbage, mint, rice noodles, cucumber, carrot, and peanut sauce. We got the medium spicy sauce, and it had a fantastic kick to it. You can get a domestic pitcher of beer for only $7 and a craft pitcher for just $9. Now that's a deal. Throw in the million dollar view of Lake Michigan and I am in paradise. The little shack is really cute. They also have fast food for those who are hungry on the beach. I can not review the food because I didn't come here to eat. I was looking for a place to work and saw the building from the high bank. I then had to search out the road that would take me down to this hidden Mecca. My wife informed me not to write a review because once this became public knowledge it would never be the same again. But I have to share this hidden place with my fellow Yelpers. It's just too good to be true. There is a stage but no one was performing when I was here. I asked the girls that work behind the counter and they informed me that there is live music on Wed-Sun possibly starting at 3pm or 6pm. I really can't get mad at them for not knowing the starting time because I am on island time right now. This place reminds me of a Caribbean Island where time and schedules just do not matter. The live music will eventually play. They did have some recorded music playing softly in the background which only added to the charm of the location. I allegedly ordered myself a pitcher of beer, grabbed a beach chair in the sand and started working. I can totally confirm the working and chair part but I'm pleading the 5th on the beer part. I ended up working for 3 hours on the beach. The funny part is that I was heading to the library in town when I was sidetracked like a dog seeing a squirrel. I really wish this place wasn't so far from Chicago because I would totally work here every day. I don't need some stuffy boring coffee shop. The beach is also incredibly clean. It is designated a blue flag beach which means it is being well taken care of. In fact, I witnessed a group of young kids actually cleaning up junk. I just found this amazing. I wish I saw more young people putting down their electronics and picking up a piece of garbage. I applaud you for saving your future World. You give me hope for tomorrow. So if I go missing and dark socially I may be sitting here with a pitcher and a dead battery but I don't care. I've got a million dollar view with a $7 pitcher to keep me cool in the warm summer sun.
