To be fair, I only stayed in the "Master Suite" and used the pool. I've never been to any events or…read moregatherings. The good: Pool is super clean. It is amazingly clean. The grounds are well maintained. The not so good: Upon check in, the person wasn't very friendly. Now, I'm not looking for a welcome party, but some personality would be nice. There was a miscommunication about the "room key deposit" and this person was a bit rude about it. I also asked for a receipt, because I thought the rate quoted to me over the phone, and the rate I paid was different. I was given a receipt that had numerous charges on it that were not for my stay. After checking in, another person "told" me to move my car, as I was "blocking everything." I wasn't asked to move, I was told. I didn't see it that way, but calmly and nicely agreed and did as I was told. At this same time, the person who checked me in brought out a "correct" receipt that was simply a snippet of a spreadsheet showing what I paid. The bad: The "Master Suite" is not very nice. It's very dated. I get it. This is not the Ritz Carlton, but for the price I paid, it was pretty terrible. The room has an odor of wood rot, which I think is coming from the soft floor by the toilet. The bed is terrible. The refrigerator is directly next to the bed, which kept me up all night. Let the photos speak for themselves. I stay in a hotel/guest room approximately 200-250 nights per year. This was one of the worst I've been in. While sitting by the pool, I heard some other discussion about the owners/management/someone of authority and they didn't have very nice things to say. All-in-all it was a bucket list thing, and kind of a trial visit to see if my wife and I would enjoy staying there in the future. I don't think we'll come back. We certainly won't be staying in a guest room.

The staff are…read morevery, very friendly and helpful, the Bloody Mary's at Greenie's (inside the clubhouse) are oh-so-tasty, and the food - oh, man, the food. For lunch, we had wonderfully tender turkey and freshly-sliced hot beef sandwiches - yum. Outstanding dinner: Homemade mac 'n cheese with bacon, medium rare sirloin, crab salad and bread pudding for dessert. I washed it down with a New Glarus Spotted Cow Wheat, a local favorite. 'Twas more-than-satisfying. Overall, I give the cause five stars and food four stars. As for the course, I give it a three. I don't consider myself a golf course connoisseur, but I was not overly impressed. (I never thought I'd say this about any course, but they need more sand traps.) Aside from the cause, it's a three-and-a-half, but for a course that supports a cause such as the McGMO, I've rounded it up. It's great to see the golf course and community get involved in such a great event. I will be returning.

We used to vacation here multiple times a year in the 80's and 90's - this was our "go-to" spot for…read morelong weekends, family gatherings, etc. We decided to reunite our family, which is now spread out all over the country, at Abbey Springs for a nostalgic summer long-weekend getaway. FYI, we're not golfers either. Never swung a club on the course, but the family-friendly amenities and "life at the lake" environment attracted us back every time. What we liked/loved during our latest visit: The beautiful setting. The well-manicured grounds. The dining options (clubhouse food was great). The indoor and outdoor swimming options for the kids. The proximity to downtown Lake Geneva. Our rental condos were very nice. Nice pro-shop. Ice cream for kiddos at the Clubhouse. Beautiful wildlife - deer, turkeys, etc. What we didn't like: There's a strong sense of exclusivity and entitlement amongst the members and staff, and our group also felt an overall feeling of disdain towards us being renters. This was apparent in our interactions with several staff members and owners. Specifically - the older gentleman at the beach guardhouse who firmly enforced the parking regulations for renters ("go park by the clubhouse") and even suggested I drop off my toddler children (by themselves) at the beach and then go park. Other family members had unfortunate run-ins with him as well. Our children weren't allowed into the petting zoo at the beach. There was a large group of elderly women who had us removed from the snack shop because they "had the space reserved to play bridge." No signs on the tables. But our kids and family were forced into the restaurant to finish their lunches. Then... some of these women tried to come and take chairs (that we were using) from our table because there wasn't enough seating for them to play bridge, hurling some snarky comments at us along the way. We received a lot more cold glares pushing us out rather than warm smiles welcoming us in. Finally, and unfortunately, several members in our group commented on the extreme lack of diversity within this resort - primarily among the members. Also - look out for raccoons in the trash dumpsters at night! We enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. Will we return? We'd consider it, but some of the aforementioned items may give us pause.

It's kept very clean and also has showers on the lower level. As of this review 7/23/2025, non-residents cost for entrance: visitors is $12 for anyone 12 and up, $6 for kids ages 6-11 and the youngsters 5 and under are free. Open 9am-5pm with lifeguards on duty from 9:30am-6pm.
