Customer Experience - Ross Waukegan, 1301 N. Lewis Ave To…read moreWhom It May Concern, I am writing to provide feedback regarding my recent visit to your Ross location at 1301 N. Lewis Ave, Waukegan, IL, on Sunday, January 26, 2026, approximately one hour prior to closing. Upon entering the store, I immediately noticed that the entrance area was slippery and unclean, creating a potential safety hazard. I nearly slipped in the doorway, which I found concerning, as most Ross locations I have visited typically have either a security officer or a store associate positioned at the entrance to welcome customers and maintain a safe environment. Once inside, I observed several issues impacting both safety and customer service. The store appeared disorganized, with numerous items out of place or lacking price tags. While I understand that this was during the last hour of sales, I was surprised by the lack of floor support or proactive assistance for customers. As I approached the checkout area, I noticed a significant line forming around the jewelry counter. I requested assistance from two store associates who were present but engaged in a personal conversation. When I asked them to assist a gentleman who was handling a line of more than eight customers, one associate informed me that staff members were on break. As someone with over 28 years of professional experience in customer service, leadership, and retail across multiple industries, I am aware that employee breaks are typically scheduled so as not to impact customer support or store operations. When I asked for her name and position, the associate refused to provide her name, stating only that she was a manager. Her demeanor was dismissive and unprofessional, which negatively impacted my experience and, I would argue, the overall morale and performance of the store. Eventually, another associate, who was on break and wearing her name badge, came to assist at the front, and I appreciated her effort. However, the initial interactions left a strong impression regarding the importance of staff accountability and professionalism. We are currently in a challenging economic environment, and every dollar spent by customers is meaningful. When a store does not value the hard-earned money of its clients or fails to provide the level of service customers expect, it risks losing them. Poor service can create a domino effect, ultimately impacting sales, customer loyalty, and team morale. I respectfully encourage your leadership team to reinforce policies regarding staff engagement, customer service, and floor coverage, particularly during peak or closing hours. Customers notice how staff are treated and how they conduct themselves, and these interactions directly influence repeat business. Providing the level of service one would expect as a customer is not just courteous -- it is essential to maintaining a strong, loyal client base. Thank you for taking the time to review my feedback. I hope it will be received constructively to support positive changes in staff conduct and overall customer experience at this location. Sincerely, Qiana langston

I am a huge Ross fan but good location needs some help especially with holiday season approaching…read moreit's only going to get worse. The store was a mess. Items in the wrong area and sizes. Piles of clothing and shoes all over. I feel bad for the workers because cleaning after people who don't hang things back up is yes unfortunate. I ended up finding an item but almost didn't get it because the line was backed up with only one cashier. There was another employee that could have jumped on the register to help but I guess they had other duties. Ross prices are going up so there's not even a real reason to shop there.

You raised your voice calling "No kids in here" You could have at least said "Hello" or maybe "Hello, how are you? Unfortunately we don't allow babies in baby carriers that can't walk or touch anything in our store either." If you were polite but just enforcing rules we wouldn't have had a problem. It was your tone, your facial expression and volume. The gal whom you were checking out saw us outside and said "That was rude" Referring to you... raising your voice. Your sign is not clear which is why there is confusion. No one under 18 years old would have been more clear. You can have whatever rules you want, make them clear. I've been coming here since I was in my teens. Teens are "kids" as well. So like I said on the way out, I won't be returning. I'll support other small businesses that know how to speak to their customers. Costumer Service! I came in with my baby in a carrier, and upon entry I was screamed at "No kids in here" from the owner. It would have been nice of him to greet us and let us know that babies that don't walk also aren't aloud. The sign outside is not clear what ages cannot enter.

Has cheaply made trinkets and other junk. There's also clothing but who knows what kind of quality. Basically it used to be a better mall when it had actual stores people heard of, instead of whatever it is they have. It's more like a Mexican flea market. There's a lot of family owned businesses inside, mostly selling clothes and trinkets. An interesting history about it. The mall opened in 1965 as one of the first in the Chicago area, and at first it was quite successful. It was also the first enclosed mall in Lake County. Soon newer malls opened and it was in trouble. Montgomery Ward was the original anchor. The 1980s was bad as they and other stores left. It's now a Home Depot. There's a lot of empty space. A lot is clustered together at one end. The stores include jewelry, makeup, and cheap stuff. Good that it has found a way to remain open, but it needs lots of help. It's located on Belvidere Road at Lewis. They're open daily from the morning to evening, but many stores have erratic hours so it's like the hours are a suggestion or whatever.

My feel of it was those aggressive kiosk people at the mall all living in one giant space to attack any incoming customers. Over…read moretime, this mall has generally been a good spot to gather with a quality set of stores, though there's definitely a lot more competition nearby with good options in all of the surrounding shopping centers that cover all the different varieties of shops and restaurants. With lots of indoor malls closing nearby, this setup has become a bit more of a rarity, and personally I still like having a large spot with furniture to sit down at when I need to rest, a climate controlled area for when it's too hot or cold outside, and lots of fun spots to do seasonal pictures. With Hawthorn 2.0, I'm quite excited for what is to come. It looks like there will be a fresh set of solid anchors like Perry's Steakhouse, AMC, Dave & Busters, Macy's, etc. If this develops similarly to Randhurst, this would be a great spot to gather in Vernon Hills. Even before this is complete however, Hawthorn Mall has retained more quality tenants and has an overall cleaner and more modern look than some of the other indoor malls nearby. With the next closest similar offering being Woodfield Mall, this is still a fairly unique offering.

I hope that Hawthorn Mall can attract some new shops and return to its glory days.
