DO NOT SIGN A MEMBERSHIP CONTRACT WITH THESE FRANCHISE OWNERS; EXTREMELY SHADY BUSINESS GOING ON AT THIS GYM
To start off with, I would like to acknowledge the excellent classes and the engaging and friendly front desk staff and trainers at this gym.
My one-star review is solely directed at the owners and serves as a cautionary message to others regarding the unethical practices and questionable business conduct taking place at this gym. It is my intention to prevent others from enduring a similar, painful experience I encountered when attempting to cancel my membership. Additionally, I feel it is important to highlight the toxic work environment that the employees are subjected to which is mentioned towards the end of my review.
My contract clearly states a 7-day notice is required for cancellation. I adhered to this requirement and notified the gym of my cancellation intention two weeks prior to my next month's payment. Despite this, the gym staff informed me I would be charged for another month due to a supposed 30-day notice period, which is not explicitly stated in my contract. Sadly, my situation is not the first with this franchise where contractual obligations were abused by the owners.
When I requested clarification, my concerns were dismissed, directing me to vague sections of the contract to which they refused to provide a clear explanation of where in the contract it stated I needed to provide a 30-day notice. They then said they were going to send my account to collections (over $139 LOL) despite my ongoing attempts to resolve the issue, including multiple emails to the owners, and a personal visit to the gym. A visit where I was told I would hear back within a few days, yet heard nothing. To date, I have received no response from them and the last thing they said was that they were going to let a collections agency manage this process from here on out. Their lack of replies only strengthens my case and indicates their awareness of their wrongdoing.
I also contacted a lawyer to look at my contract and he assured me that I was correct. He said that the contract did not state it was necessary to provide a 30-day cancellation notice and confirmed that only a 7-day notice was required. If the gym did, in fact, submit this claim to collections, I know I will be able to dispute it, but I find this concerning that a small business who values their "community" would behave this way and immediately resort to collections threats rather than even attempting to provide any ounce of ethical customer service.
Based on the threats of collections during my contract dispute, along with the poor customer service and lack of responsiveness, I strongly caution individuals contemplating membership at Burn Boot Camp to thoroughly review their contract and exercise caution regarding the gym's approach to cancellations and dispute resolution.
Outside of my cancellation experience, I have witnessed firsthand unprofessional and toxic behaviors by one of the franchise owners towards members and staff. For a former employee's perspective, read Sydney Stewart's review on Google from 2023.
I hope change comes because of this review and others do not have the same experience as I did. read more
