Jolene or Jolynn (sorry not sure how to spell) was our server and made sure our experience at the bar area was smooth and enjoyable. She even helped me charge my power box while I was away from camp!! In addition to the hospitality, the food was great and everyone was happy with their meal. My Alfredo was spot on but my chicken Parmesan was a little salty but overall it was very good. I had to pack it up and take it back to the campsite to finish up that night. The bar area was intimate and comfortable to dine in. We stayed there so we could watch TV and be close to the outlet for my power box to charge. I highly recommend this location to people in town. If you're from out of town and visiting the area, this is a necessary stop to dine. read more

Got a chance to visit The Outpost Steakhouse in Burney CA (right there on Main Street). If you are traveling through Burney, I HIGHLY recommend having dinner there. Currently they are open 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday. They have a full bar with bar style seating serving bar style favorite foods along with traditional sit-down dining with a full menu of steakhouse favorites. We had the prime rib and rib eye and they did not disappoint - they were cooked to perfection. The service was good and for a small town up in the mountains this place was busy from opening to closing. Just a tip don't leave without trying to a couple of appetizers. We had the delicious jumbo soft pretzel, and a neighboring table was raving about the sizzli'n mushrooms skillet. This little mountain Town has A LOT to offer while you are passing through. Burney Falls is a must, but if you have time visit the fish hatchery and don't; forget the "Stand By Me" bridge. read more

Cooked perfectly. They didn't have most of the dessert options available, but we were honestly too full for them anyway. My lemon drop martini was perfect, too. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was!! We were going to check into our motel accross the street after arriving for one night passing through and decided on this place after the town main drag options didnt look to promising. We walked in and were greeted by a waitress who acknowledged us and said she'd be there to seat us in a minute. She was tending to her tables so we grabbed some menus and waited about 5 minutes to be seated. Another couple walked in behind us and sat at a dirty hightop table close to the bar, where that same waitress came out from the back carrying food, told them "I'll be there to clean your table" and after dropping off her food walked past us to grab menus and proceeded to clean their table and get drinks...all while we stood there bewildered and irritated. Thankfully Jo, another waitress, greeted us with a warm welcome shortly after and took us to our table. I briefly complained about us being ignored stating to her "It seems like maybe they were regulars", where she apologized and said she'd take care of us. Jo brought us out a few samples of the draft beers and we settled on the Drake draft. We started.with the sizzling mushroom appetizer, which was SO good!. For our main dish we ordered the fettuchini alfredo with shrimp and chicken marsala which came with soup or salad. They wern't busy as was around 8:00pm, the food came out quickly and Jo checked in making sure we had what we needed. All the food was very good, a tad pricey for certain items like the three 9$ shrimp for the alfredo, but we had nothing negative to say food wise, the service from Jo was excellent and she has a positive vibe. Well, this visit was a disappointment. Went with wife for our anniversary and found out they no longer have the artichoke dip anymore. Water was served but it was warm and NO ice. Wife ordered the Prime rib and I ordered the sirloin. We had to ask for bread. Wife's prime rib was good my steak was ordered medium rare. My steak was served very raw. Had to send it back. Clam chowder was very good. The server did a good job. Overall, very disappointing. Up here in the inter mountain area we have very few good places to eat. No sure if we will ever return. read more

We had the best service in a long time from Jess at the Outpost Steakhouse. The taco salad with a spicy and creamy dressing was delicious. The coconut shrimp with a spicy sweet sauce was also delicious. The absolute hit of the meal was the sweet potato tots. Crisp and just a bit salty. We have never had any this fantastic before. Calls for a return trip ASAP. The floor to ceiling wood paneling looks like many fancy steakhouses I've seen. There is a long bar and even room for dances. My friend and I stopped at Outpost Steakhouse for dinner after we visited Burney Falls. The inside of the restaurant reminds me of being in a warm cabin. The servers were attentive and we were seated right away. They serve limited quantities of prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays so naturally I had to try! The 13oz prime rib plate was $37 and it comes in with your choice of a soup or salad and potatoes (fries, mashed, or baked potato). The server informed us that they are also know for the clam chowder which is also served only on Fridays and Saturdays. I ordered my prime rib with clam chowder and mashed potatoes. I asked for my prime rib to be cooked medium rare but it came out slightly over done. The meat itself had a pleasant taste and the potatoes were fluffy. I was a bit disappointed by the clam chowder because the clams tasted very rubbery. One redeeming quality about the soup was that it was thick and creamy which is how I personally prefer clam chowder. The clam chowder came in with a side of sourdough bread which was nice added bonus. Overall, this place is had good service and nice value on the prime rib. The food is great for warming up after a cold day in the snow or if you just want some hardy food after a day of exploring the Shasta area. read more

This spot was right next to the motel I was staying at, so perfect dinner spot to just walk over to! I ordered the steak bits which came with the mushrooms and my group got the apple bread pudding as dessert. My steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned which is hard to do! The mushrooms were the perfect side and a great change from your normal vegetable. The apple bread pudding was average, nothing special. The service was great, and the vibe was exactly what you'd expect from a spot in Burney. The Outpost exceeded our expectations! I made sure to get the prime rib, a special available on Fridays and Saturdays only. It arrived perfectly medium rare, and looked a lot bigger than the 13oz description on the menu. It nearly took up the whole plate! Great flavor, but could have been a bit more tender. My bf got the the rib eye and that also had very good flavor with a nice chew, cooked exactly medium rare, just as he requested. Really healthy side of button mushrooms for a steal at $1! A soup or salad came with our entrees and we got a minestrone and a clam chowder. Both ok, but wouldn't order on their own. The hotzerellas were good too. The diced jalapeños in the mozzarella were new to us. You can never go wrong with fried cheese! Really friendly, attentive service! Everyone was so nice. Came here on a weeknight. Waited almost 40 mins for our food to arrive. We were starving by then. We also got a couple items that were wrong (i.e. fries instead of salad, wrong salad dressing). We ordered some fried foods and though we did like the crispy fries, some of the sweet potato tots were overly fried and burnt, and the burger bun was almost all black on the bun which made it harder to chew. Buttermilk chicken strips- good and crispy, but nothing extraordinary Hot Hawaiian Burger- it's a big burger. Tasted good but beware it is mildly spicy which my kid didn't like. read more

Had an absolutely wonderful experience here with my Wife for her birthday. It wasn't too busy after they just opened, light sounds of other guests dining and country music playing in the background to round out the atmosphere. Service was outstanding, our waitress that evening was all smiles and couldn't be more friendly with us and she made sure to keep checking in with us to make sure everything was going well or if we needed anything. As for the food and drinks? Chefs kiss! I ordered the 13oz Rib Eye topped with grilled onions and mushrooms with a side loaded mashed potatoes (at our waitresses' recommendation) and it did not disappoint in the slightest. I enjoyed my meal with two margaritas from the bar and when I say I went into a food coma back at our room at Shasta Pines believe it, I was out for at least an hour after this! We dropped in the Outpost Steakhouse after driving through town looking for breakfast after a rough week of camping. The Outpost did not disappoint! I had an omelette with ham, mushrooms and bell peppers topped with swiss cheese. I do believe it was the best omelette I have ever eaten and I usually go for a chili verde omelette as it's been my favorite for years. The omelette was stuffed with the choices I made. Breakfast included potatoes and choice of toast. (Great job Chef!) My husband was happy with his choice as well. After speaking with our server, Jessica, she said that they were newly opened for breakfast. She was friendly, courteous and the service was amazing. She share shared a story of the Pit River Tribe after we explained we were headed to Medicine Lake. I'm looking forward to going back to try their prime rib dinner! read more

We stopped in here on a Tuesday evening while driving through the area. There weren't many people dining here tonight which is a pity as we had a very lovely evening. The atmosphere is rustic and it was a bit chilly in the restaurant this evening, but it was a pretty cold evening outside. We sat at a high top in the bar and were tended to by Jess our waitress who was fabulous. She was very informative and had a great attitude and took care of everything for us. I started with a butternut squash soup and then had a delicious chicken marsala dinner which came with wild rice pilaf and steamed vegetables. My husband started with a salad and then had the top sirloin steak and opted for fries. Both of the meals were delicious. We found out the chef is a lady who purchased this business a few years ago. We would definitely go back if we are in this area again. We like to support independently owned businesses like this... Especially if the food is delicious and the employees are so friendly. Needed calories after hiking all day at Lassen National Park. Got the prime rib which came with their house salad and chose the loaded mashed potatoes for my side. We have been loyal customers of this restaurant for years, but ever since the new owner took over, the experience has gone downhill. We've given them multiple chances--six, to be exact--and every time, the service has been terrible. Expect to wait 1-2 hours for your food, even with a reservation. They frequently run out of menu items, and while the food itself is decent, the long wait times and constant issues make it hard to justify the high prices. Our last visit was the final straw. We had a 6:30 reservation, yet as soon as we arrived, they asked if they could call us when our table was "ready"--essentially making our reservation pointless. Since we live too far away to leave and come back, we decided to wait nearby. When we were finally seated, the server admitted, "It's a shit show, bear with us." That statement alone speaks volumes. Over an hour passed before I received my salad, and my husband didn't get his soup until after his entrée. After spending a significant amount of money again for a terrible experience, my husband left an honest review. Instead of addressing the concerns professionally, the owner responded rudely, saying she was "glad to never see him again " She then flagged the review for removal, and when he left another review on Yelp, she took it upon herself to post it on multiple Facebook pages, (also not telling the whole story and also saying straight up lies on the posts) seemingly trying to turn the small town against us or for own ego? Fortunately, it backfired, as many others shared similar experiences. Any negative feedback from other, Kristen swiftly deleted, and those individuals were blocked. We weren't there to be difficult; we were simply trying to enjoy a meal together. We have a baby at home, meaning we have to pay for a babysitter and can't stay out all night just waiting for food that should have been ready in a reasonable amount of time. This isn't just about one bad experience; it's a pattern. We used to love this restaurant, but the way customers are treated now is unacceptable. She clearly thinks because she's the only cook (hire more?) that everything revolves around her and not the customers. If you're okay with long waits, poor service, and an owner who can't handle criticism, then by all means, give it a shot. Otherwise, I'd recommend taking your business elsewhere read more

Amazing a Lil pricy for what they make but it's a steak house so you expect that, the service is as slow as you can possibly get they seem really overwhelmed with a half full restaurant esp for a Tues. Didn't get my soup all our food showed up at once including salads and appetizers which was crazy weird to me, took about 20 min just to get our drink order taken idk if the wait staff is cooking also or what but 2 hrs later we left full with a lighter pocket. What a quaint spot! My first time here and I felt like I was given 5 star service! Dinner was perfection! It began with a delicious cup of clam chowder loaded with chunky clams and potatoes. I went to this restaurant November 2 and November 3 2024. The first time, I treated my friend for breakfast. The second time I met her family there for breakfast and her mom was so sweet to treat me. My favorite part of this place is the rustic and cabin feel of the place. Love it! Also the service was great both times. The prices for the breakfast were average, not super high but not exactly cheap. The breakfast was decent. I kind of felt that they are still perfecting the breakfast. The hash brown patty reminded me of McDonald's, which is not a bad thing, but just don't expect hash browns like the other typical breakfast restaurants. The first time I went there I had the biscuits with gravy and they were pretty good. The next day I had eggs and a hash brown. The eggs were pretty standard. They were good, similar to other typical breakfast joints. I have not tried their dinner or lunch. I definitely want to come back for that. read more

Went in for dinner recently. Previous visits to the restaurant were positive. We were a party of 4. Service was extraordinarily slow, about 45 minutes for food to be served. Not busy at all, one other table seated. Asked a simple ingredient question, to which the waitress responded "I don't know, I don't cook it, I just serve it." She was otherwise friendly, apologizing for slow service. A drink order didn't appear for about 40 minutes. A member of our party tracked down and talked to the bartender, asking about the drink. The bartender rudely said "I'll get to it when I get to it." 10-15 minutes later the waitress delivered the drink, apologetic. After recommendations by a local business owner, we were disappointed not only with the sub-standard service, but also very lackluster food quality overall. Having regularly visited the area frequently for 30+ years, and good Outpost experiences in the past, we were all disappointed that a formerly consistent restaurant had overall mediocre food quality as well as an overtly rude bartender. For breakfast, I ordered scrambled eggs, potatoes, toast, and a side of fruit. Everything was amazing. For dinner, I ordered the grilled Salmon, mashed potatoes, and veggies on the side (it also came with clam chowder which was equally as amazing). Steak was medium well not medium rare. Baked potatoes were burnt. I came there the weekend of Valentine's Day 2024 and the food was FANTASTIC. Who was cooking that day? Have him teach the other guys.
