I stopped in here to pick up some treats for my staff. There is plenty of free parking and also seating for dining in. It is attached to the community center and barefoot sandwich shoppe. There was a nice size line when I arrived but it went rather quickly. They serve hot food as well as the desserts. I ordered a dozen filled croissants. The staff loved them! Place was clean, inviting and staff were friendly.

Ok, I saw a bakery and had to stop in. They had a wide variety of baked goods but mostly croissants. Smores, maple bacon, cinnamon sugar, chocolate strawberry, and so many other flavors to choose from! I got a box of 12 for everyone to pick 3 flavors each they wanted to try. The croissants were nice and flakey, and the flavors were not overpowering. I was so sad when I ran out! I cannot wait to see another Burneys so I can stop in and grab some more delicious treats!

Bottom line: Burney's Sweets & More has it covered from sweet to savory. Delicious and locally famous "glazed croissants" for the sweet part, while I enjoyed the toasted chicken salad sandwich for a lunch selection. Good stuff! The Deets: I got to swing by Burney's Sweets & More a couple of times in brief stopovers in Elizabethtown en route during our annual OIB trip. First trip was to get some of their locally famous "glazed croissant" type of pastries to take down to enjoy at the beach. Hard to describe them other than that, and I did get some pics so you can see for yourself. They are of various flavors and fillings just to shake it up a bit. These little gems are pretty delicious, a good thing to have with your morning cup of coffee...or anytime you want something tasty and sweet. The other visit was for lunch. The bakery/cafe itself is bright, clean, and nice. The staff were welcoming, positive, and helpful. We had heard that their chicken salad sandwich was the thing to get for lunch here so I went with that. It came out as a fairly simple looking toasted chicken salad sandwich but it was just as it was described...delicious and not heavy. I was looking for a tasty but simple lunch that day and it did the job perfectly. I believe they do breakfast as well. We also got to see them making all those delicious glazed goodies in the back while sitting at one of the booths eating, it was very cool. In all, I enjoyed my couple of experiences with Burney's and would definitely stop by again if near.

This is a must visit bakery in the charming town of Elizabethtown. OMGosh...best sweets I ever had! Croissants melt in your mouth! If you love delicious treats of all kinds and enjoy being treated as family, you'll love this small family owned and ran business.

Burney's deserved 10 stars on desserts alone. They sell breakfast and lunch as well, but the are well known for their delectable sweets that come in all shapes and sizes. Located in downtown Elizabethtown, they are in a standalone building that use to house a few more businesses but I don't know if those businesses are still open. There a a few parking spaces outside their door and a large private on the other side of the building with an additional entrance. Burney's will satisfy any sweet tooth. They have such a large array of desserts from donuts to filled croissants to cakes to pies (individual or large sizes for the cake and pies). The sweet potatoes pies are to die for and you can order whole cakes. They carry many cakes such as caramel , chocolate, honey bun, Italian, hummingbird and so much more. The great thing about Burney's is all of their items are made in-house. If you are ever in the area or close to the area, definitely stop by a d you will not be disappointed.

Came here recently and really enjoyed my visit!…read more First, there's a small parking lot right next to the bakery, and I think a larger parking lot at the rear of the building. I got lucky and snagged a spot near the front, though :) I looked around at everything and it all looked so tasty! I decided to grab a loaf of pumpernickel bread, but next time I'll probably get a dessert or two. The staff were helpful throughout my visit. They asked me if I wanted my bread sliced, and when I replied in the affirmative, gave me a helpful chart with a lot of different options for how thick I wanted each slice :) I took the bread home, stuck it in the oven, and ate it with some butter and jam. Delicious! My kids really liked it as well. Overall, I will definitely come back!

One thing that had a slight improvement but I will insist desperately needs improvement is their packaging. While this time I did get plastic clamshell containers, which is better than the foam lunch clamshell I got a full tart in last time, it was still a bit disappointing. The small paper bags for the cookies made sense, but then it was all thrown into a generic yellow smiley face thank you plastic grocery bag. I beg, please invest in some nice bakery cardboard boces, that way multiple treats can go into a single box too, and then just some nice paper bags. I love the food, but when trying to gift them or take it to somebodies house I feel odd pulling stuff out of a grocery bag and each item being individually in a plastic clamshell.

We have never been to a restaurant that serves you your breakfast cafeteria style! I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing if a breakfast joint does it like that. Our first impression when walking into Cakes, Pastries, & More is that there is no character to the restaurant. It's just a spacious square. We both got breakfast plates. The eggs were their best item, but was still not very good. The hash brows had no flavor and were undercooked (if you can imagine that) and bacon tasted like it had been sitting out for a day. The "sweet" tea is not sweet. The restrooms are nasty, but the rest of the restaurant is clean. Why just the restrooms? Both the solid customer service and the cleanliness of the rest of the restaurant are about best things going for this joint.

While I didn't visit…read morethe bakery itself (yet) someone brought in a box of filled croissant goodies from here on my first shift at the local hospital. Even though it was day one and I did not know anyone, I could not resist in taking something from the box. I'm fairly sure there was an assortment in the box, but I wasn't going to be the new guy AND the picky guy, so I just randomly grabbed one. I happened to pick what I can only assume was Bavarian cream and immediately wanted to be THAT new guy and get more. I didn't do that, though. But the croissant was flakey and the cream was perfect. The following week, I tried to drop by before my shift. I followed my GPS to the strip mall it is located in. As soon as I arrived, I was excited to get a few items and even have time to eat one or two in the shop before going to work. It looks small from the outside and cozy through the window. Unfortunately, it was a holiday weekend and they were closed that day. I will definitely try again the next time I'm out there!

I'd heard about "glazed and filled croissants" from a friend and made it a point to check them out…read more It turns out I've passed by Darel's Bakery every time I go through Whiteville en route to the beach. It's located in a small strip of shops with Hills Grocery, across from the Lowe's Home Improvement Store. They even have a drive-thru window for extra convenience. Their croissants are light and airy layered confections that are filled when you order. There are 25-30 varieties, ranging from glazed (JUST LIKE A WARM KRISPY KREME DONUT) to ones with fancy fillings and toppings. The ratio of filling to pastry was perfect. The owner was very accommodating when asked about all the combinations of fillings and toppings. There were also brownies, cupcakes, and cinnamon rolls, all made on site. When you're in the area and looking for a treat, keep Darel's in mind. And if you're not in the area, Darel's products are now in several coastal spots, so that makes it even more convenient to try some. Look for them at Heritage Fresh Market, Ludlum's Produce of Holden Beach, Sheffield's of Ocean Isle, and The Island Market of Sunset Beach!
