Holy diabetes Batman! This place is a must stop if you love delicious sugary baked goods. I don't…read moreeven try anything but the croissants. Usually I get 3 creme, 3 chocolate, and then a variety with the other six. A dozen runs just about $17. Get them first thing in the morning when they are hot and fresh. It's located in a sketchy looking shopping center and you park and enter around the side, not the front. They have a secondary restaurant inside with a bunch of tables and a couple of restrooms. Sometimes the lines here can be super long, I recommend calling your order in ahead. This way you can skip the line and just pick up your order. They have a ton of different flavors, lemon, apple, strawberry, raspberry...all worth trying!! A dozen is good for 2 people ;-). They will keep a couple days if you don't eat them all the first day. My only complaint is that I wish they were open Sundays. Usually I pick them up when I'm passing through on a Friday or Saturday morning headed out of town. I'd love to be able to pickup a dozen on the way home too!

We have never been to a restaurant that serves you your breakfast cafeteria style! I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing if a breakfast joint does it like that. Our first impression when walking into Cakes, Pastries, & More is that there is no character to the restaurant. It's just a spacious square. We both got breakfast plates. The eggs were their best item, but was still not very good. The hash brows had no flavor and were undercooked (if you can imagine that) and bacon tasted like it had been sitting out for a day. The "sweet" tea is not sweet. The restrooms are nasty, but the rest of the restaurant is clean. Why just the restrooms? Both the solid customer service and the cleanliness of the rest of the restaurant are about best things going for this joint.

I stopped by The Donut Shop in Whiteville before a shift, and the drive-thru was backed up like…read morethey were giving out free gas. Pro tip: park and walk in - I was helped immediately. The staff was friendly, patient, and hustling through the morning rush. I did get a giggle when my apple fritter showed up on the receipt as "Apple Critter" and my Bavarian cream was labeled "White Filled Donut." Not wrong, just... delightfully literal. I grabbed a dozen for coworkers and an apple fritter plus a Bavarian cream for myself. Both pastries had good flavor, but the texture threw me. They were unusually dense - not the fluffy, airy interior I expect from a fresh donut. I'm not sure whether the dough needed more rise time or a different balance in the recipe, but something in the process made everything feel heavier than it should've. Inside is lively and very much a breakfast spot, not just a donut-and-run joint. You've got people ordering plates, grabbing coffee, chatting, and the whole place has that small-town morning energy. Busy, loud in a friendly way, and full of regulars who clearly love it. I'd come back for breakfast or coffee without hesitation -- the atmosphere and service make it an easy choice. As for the donuts, I'll keep taste-testing my way through Whiteville until I find "the one."
