This company is one of the best companies, if not the best, in the Greater San Diego Area, although I have never used their service. Last week, I was doing roof repairs and thought that it's good time to replace the old mesh plate on 3 chimneys and two different sizes, 14"x21" and 17" in diameter. I called them to see if they sell chimney caps. The lady who answered the phone, I believe she was Pat, VERY patiently asked me the dimension of the chimney crown. She immediately gave me a quote on the chimney caps and installation. After I told her that I only needed to by the caps and had my roofer to install them. She without any hesitation told me two local stores in San Diego and Carlsbad that sell the caps. I called both of them. The one in San Diego said that they only have 14"x21" caps in another store in El Cajon. However, they don't have the cap for the 17". I called the store in Carlsbad, the guy told me that he only had one 14"x21" in stock and the cap for the 17" chimney had to be custom made. Since the quote clearly stated an 18" universal chimney cap, I called this company again. Pat answered the phone again, she felt weird, too, when I told her the story of the two stores referred by her. She then told me a store in La Mesa where bought all my caps on that day. For so long, I have not met store owners/employees who would go extra miles to help a person who does not buy any product/service from them. Pat and her company brought me back to the old traditional American feeling and value. I feel absolutely obligated to give a shout out to this company for their excellent customer service and humanity in a broad concept. I have used Burnie for both my prior condo residence and my current home. The unit was built in the 1980s. We had a fireplace in our condo and did not use it for years. We really did not know the condition of the fireplace. We called Burnie who did a thorough job of inspecting the entire fireplace - the gas line, the Marco box (which is the fireplace unit), the chimney and the ember arrestor. They also answered all of our questions about the Marco unit. As a result of their inspection, we made use of the fireplace during the winter months and really enjoyed the heat and ambiance that the fireplace offers to the room. We recently moved back into our rental house in Escondido a year ago. We called Burnie to inspect the two fireplaces (one on each floor) which share the same chimney box. They found some deterioration with the metal cap on the chimney box and one of the ember arrestors. They ordered the parts, offered to paint the metal and arrestor to match the house color, removed the old/deteriorated material and added the new cap and arrestor. Note to DIYers - When it comes to the fireplace, be careful when making modification to the fireplace box and the chimney. If you get this wrong and you have an incident in which your cozy fire turns ugly, the insurance company will not cover the claim. read more

Burnie's team did a great job on diagnosing and then fixing my chimneys. I had a water leak on one chimney related to some cracked stucco around the edge that was allowing water into the chimney stack. It would drip endlessly during a rain and was compromising the support posts to the chimney stack. I reached out to Burnie about 3 years ago for some information about doing a gas log conversion to our fireplace and they provided information on the process as well as what types of logs they recommend and sell. We didn't buy quite a fixer upper, but it was almost a fixer upper, so other house projects took priority. A few months ago, I dug up my old emails with Burnie and reached out to them again to see if pricing had changed much which it hadn't. We decided on a log set, made the down payment and then it was just a matter of waiting. Production of our logs took a little while due to the COVID-19 lockdown affecting the manufacturing plant, but we were kept in the loop with regular updates as to when our logs were expected to arrive and weren't left in the dark. I really appreciate how transparent they were the whole time. Well today was finally the day! Our logs arrived last week and we got the confirming email that we could have our fireplace and chimney cleaned and the system installed this morning. We were referred to Burnie Fireplace Services by another stellar company, Swede Chimney Sweep, for our two prefab fireplaces. They had both started leaking rainwater, which both Swede and Burnie diagnosed sight unseen as a leaking chase cover. I also emailed them pretty last minute to add on a gas log install, and they were quick to respond and add it to our estimate. This company has been unbelievable from the start. When I first inquired, Bernie got back to me right away. She gave me all the information I needed and explained the differences between all the logs. She mentioned that performance wise they are all the same but the price difference comes from the detail out into the logs. They didn't need to measure my fireplace because my neighbor just got his measured the day prior to my inquiry (we live in a condo). Once I picked my logs I was able to pay via invoice emailed to me. We had a start date and was ready to go, unfortunately, due to COVID, the shipowner of the logs were delayed twice. Burnie did an amazing job keeping us informed along the way and we were never left wondering about anything. In fact, if I had a question at 9pm and sent an email she would respond to it that night! The communication was absolutely amazing and we never had any sort info anxiety or sense of wonder on what was or is going to happen. The day of install arrived and we were told the technician would be at our house between 8-830am, well, he was at our house at 8am on the dot. He wore a mask, was very polite, and broke down what was going to happen, and went right to work. There was lull period and he was a really hard worker. He was finished right at 11am and that included cleaning and painting the fire box, sweeping the chimney, removing my doors to paint and clean, removing the current equipment, installing, and setting the logs and lava rocks in place. So I recently bought a new home and in my inspection they pointed out that my fireplace cap was rusted and needed to be repainted. After I closed, I started calling around to various fireplace companies, and discovered that this was a much more serious problem that warranted replacement. The problem was that 1) almost no fireplace company would touch my prefab fireplace, and 2) my fireplace manufacturer went out of business and there were no more parts for my fireplace. Every single fireplace company I called referred me to Burnie as the expert in prefab fireplaces. I called Burnie and they were super busy so I actually wasn't able to book their services until months out. However, I stayed in contact with one of the owners, Bernie regularly. I sent her so many emails with questions and concerns. I even bounced some ideas off her that I heard from other fireplace companies. She was a wealth of information and was so patient with all my questions. She didn't hesitate to help even though I actually hadn't technically contracted or paid for their services yet. She was extremely helpful. Even though my fireplace manufacturer went out of business, Burnie just happened to have about 5 of the parts on hand that I needed. If they didn't, I would've had to replace the entire system at great expense. I was very thankful for that! Ultimately Adolfo came out to do the work on my fireplace last week and did an excellent job. He installed a new cap and cover on my chase, and also changed out the burner in my fireplace, painted it, and installed fireplace glass. It looks beautiful! I am very happy with the end result, even though it ended up being pretty pricey. It is worth the piece of mind knowing that my family can use our fireplace safely and I am hoping these repairs lengthened the life of our fireplace. P.S. who knew these fireplaces had limited shelf life? I didn't before this! I would 100% recommend Burnie, especially if you have a prefab fireplace. As far as I understand they are really the only company in the area that should be dealing with these types of fireplaces.
