Truly a FIVE star experience from the moment you come in and ongoing! We were visiting Park City and just happened to walk in never expecting such an amazing store and great customer service. We are from Austin, TX so there's no shortage of custom hat stores, but it was partly the experience that had us buying hats here. We worked with Hannah and all I can say is if you are working with her... you ARE going to buy a hat. She's very good at reading people and picking out what would go best for each individual down to the color and style of the hat. But mind you, this is not ordinary experience. It's extremely personalized to each individual; not just the fitting for proper size, color that works best but the shaping. I think I've spent less time buying a new car and that's not meant to be negative. Rather just to emphasize the personal attention you receive when you want to check out the hats. They have so many colors and style variations for you to look at, but regardless, if you already know how you want your hat to look, they can style it. When you pick out the color you want, you are going to be a basic hat with a flat brim and a round crown. So don't be shocked when they bring out the new, unshaped hat. Right in front of you, they will shape it to the exact style you want and it's really an impressive process to watch. One of the most impressive things was changing the size of the brim. We wanted the brim just a little smaller than the stock hat. They will measure it down to an 1/8th of an inch and after they cut it, you would never know the hat didn't come that way originally. Again, the transformation from the stock hat to the one you take with you is an amazing process to watch. And something I haven't ever seen before, they will actually "brand" your hat if you want. Think of branding like a cow get branded; they have these little branding irons and we chose to get our initials branded on the underside of the brim. A very nice personalization and a great way to make sure someone else doesn't accidentally pick up your hat! They have a wide array of hat bands anything from a very basic but nice hatband that comes with the purchase of the hat, to hand etched solid leather bands with silver buckles for the same price (and sometimes more) as the hat. But when you look at the history of the Burns Western apparel (since 1876), it's clear the quality of the material and craftsmanship. Don't be shocked by the price; again, this is a quality hat that is going to last a lifetime and people will recognize the quality. In the first day after getting the hat, we received so many comments from people passing wanting to know where we got the hat from. If you came to Park City and weren't prepared to carry something like this back on the plane... not to worry. When we finished our trip, we returned to the store and they will put the hat in a nice protective box and ship to your home address so there no worry about how you are going to carry this on a plane. We are already planning another trip in March to Park City and we won't leave before visiting Burns Cowboy Shop to pick up another hat! Everyone here is very nice and helpful, but ask for Hannah. She is so knowledgeable and fun to work with. But one warning... if Hannah helps you... you ARE going to buy a hat :) she doesn't pressure, but she knows the hats so well, you are going to feel like something is missing if you don't get one of these hats. We couldn't be happier and you don't have to live in Texas or Utah. You can wear this in New York, Chicago or Miami and people are going to recognize a quality of piece of headwear. read more

Beautiful clothes, boots and hats. Not an inexpensive place but not super over the top either. I tried a beautiful lamb leather jacket with real fur around the collar and it was $2k, boots that I picked up were around $1,200 and hats I asked about were around $500 - $1k. While that all might sound super expensive the next place I walked into had a $30k vest so it's all about perspective. read more

Where do I start? They tried to sell me the wrong hat that was twice the price of the one I asked for. By a lot! They didn't have the hat I wanted in the store so I ordered it and had to wait four months for the hat to be made and shipped. It was even longer by almost a month. They then shipped it to the wrong address and have yet to respond to my texts for more than 24 hrs. The shaping is also wrong and uneven. For a $500 hat I expected better. read more

The customization is fun. You can add hat bands, pins, feathers, branding and even shaping. It will be your forever hat. The boots are handmade in Utah. They have all the exotic leathers like crocodile, alligator, elephant, giraffe, boar, bison, sting ray, ostrich and more. It's a small operation and 7/8 boot makers are women. Super disappointing experience all around. Went in Dec 2 on our family ski trip and was so excited for the Burns experience after knowing about them for years. This was my Christmas present and such a luxury treat! Was fitted, confirmed it would arrive for Xmas (as my kids were there as asked how big the box was so they could wrap it) and was told some extra feathers would be thrown in for custom! Well, come Dec 25 no arrival, tried contacting for days and finally made contact end of Dec. Was told "it was drying" aka it was forgotten about and it finally arrived Jan 2! With much anticipation, and a very expensive gift, the hat couldn't even fit on my head. Not even close, so clearly measurements were lost or not done right. And no feathers. Took a few days to contact and sent it back and then another 2 weeks for contact to figure a plan as the previous associate didn't work there anymore. It was resized and shipped back but again didn't fit and no feathers. I own a small business and get things happen. What was disappointing was no real acknowledgment of the situation - lack of arriving on time as a holiday gift, multiple lapses in communication and getting it found, completely wrong measurements and no feathers. When you're spending $800+ on a custom item, it should be positive experience but this was anything but. I sent the hat back today and asked for a full refund as there was no offer to fix again, no remorse and as a customer I just felt like another number in line. Really really ruined such a fun in-store experience and my kids were bummed their Xmas gift to wrap didn't happen. In the scheme of things not a big deal but to two young kids who didn't have something for their mom to open on Christmas, it was a bummer. Hope I am just an anomaly as I love the concept and supporting small, but looking for that full refund. read more

Stepped inside to browse for boots while in Park City for the day last week. They have some really beautiful cowboy boots for women with some designs I have never seen before. The inside of the shop smells like leather and the staff warmly greeted us upon arrival and allowed us to browse, backing off so we could find something we wanted to ask questions about instead of swarming us, much appreciated! It's nestled on the main shopping street in Park City so it's a fun and easy walk to find it and you can stop in all the other shops and browse as well. read more

Purchased a custom hat from these yahoos for my 9 year old daughter, I paid in full and waited for it to be made, Zach the incompetent idiot he is lied to me and told me it had been mailed two different times and the moron customer service lady told me last week it had been mailed and that she had a tracking number. after it not showing again she tells me Zach failed to mail it again and that it was going out overnight Fed X. When i asked why she told me she had a tracking # the prior week she sad she didn't know. Save your time and headache and go buy from American Hat. read more

This is one of the most legit shops in Park City. The western golds - boots, jackets, hats, etc. are some of the best I've come across. It's a Corn's I've but you will stuff that will last a long time and that you can take anywhere. The staff is very friendly and be forewarned you're likely to walk out with way more than you expected. I'm not a big western attire person and even I love this shop. read more

Very nice folks. I bought my first hat and boots in Jackson, WY. Met one of the family members, very nice, wouldn't budge a nickel on her pricing though! Still was fun meeting her. Since then I have bought another pair of boots, a hat for my wife, a belt and a silver belt buckle. Stopped by Burns on our most recent visit to PC. I've been thinking of picking up a pair of boots for some time and they had a great selection of weird and wonderful leathers. No pressure atmosphere and they emphasized that finding the best fit was their goal. Very informative about how the hides were procured, processed and crafted. Work brings me to Park City every year for several long weekends for the past 10 years, and every time I'm in Park City I make it a point to stop in at Burns. The quality of their hand made products is unparalleled and their staff is always extremely welcoming, knowledgeable and never pushy.
