Burnside Inn is one of my favorite bars on Mass Ave! It has 3 floors that all have different vibes; the first floor has a player piano usually hosting live music and a bar, the second floor usually has more retro or country music and a bar, and the third floor has a pool table and extra seating with a great view of Mass Ave below. I love getting their lavender mules and hanging out on the third floor since it's generally more quiet and easier to have a conversation with someone. If you want a unique going out experience, you could spend your whole night in Burnside Inn. read more

I find it very interesting seeing all the four and five star reviews. I was not impressed at all. It does consist of three floors with piano music on the first, live singer on the second and a "chill" hangout on the third. The service was pretty good, but the drinks were terrible! I had a old fashioned and the lady had a moscow mule. Both of the drinks were not good and way sweet. If you've ever had a drink at Hotel Tango or West Fork Whiskey or even the back bar at Goodfellas they all have drinks that are wayyy better. So if your looking for what I'd call a college frat party atmosphere with garbage cocktails this is your place. I've been down Mass Ave dozens of times and never noticed this really awesome (and in my opinion, very hidden) bar that's right next door to the Eagle. What looks to be a pretty average and narrow space is actually three stories of mustached figures all over the walls. The quirky atmosphere and fun vibe-the place was packed on a Wednesday-made for an unexpected and fun night. The karaoke here was insane and everyone who sang was actually good. Mule drinkers will love the variety of flavors too. I'd definitely recommend checking this place out and try your hand at karaoke if you're looking to spice up your week. read more

A cool idea on Mass Ave. Came across this place while bar hopping on a Saturday night. It is like three triangles stacked on top of each other. There are three levels, and they all have very odd shapes and can get very crowded very fast. On a busy Saturday night it's not good if you're claustrophobic. This place is super trendy / "hipster" so if that's your scene you'll enjoy this place because there really is nothing else like it in Indy. Each level is something different, and there are balconies or a patio on each one depending on where you're at. Their drinks are delicious. And the service was fine (typical for a loud, crowded bar on a Saturday night) Not great for large groups- again the odd shape & crowded factor. But overall a cool place to hangout and grab drinks. read more

When I walk past a bar and their chalkboard says it's a speakeasy, I can guarantee they have great craft cocktails! They did not disappoint! I had the smoked old fashioned and it was wonderful! Dangerously delicious actually as I had to force myself to drink it slower! Came back after dinner for a night cap and chilled on the patio. They had "cornhole" but the boards, bags, and distance were all far from regulation but still fun! read more

What a roaring Saturday night it was at the burnside inn! The drinks are strong and the atmosphere is steamy with dimmed light. The service is quick and the bartenders are so nice! My vodka sodas were 6 dollars a piece, very well priced for being right on mass Ave next to the eagle. It was the first time I went to burnside with my friends and it won't be the last time. Cool vibe, except kind of small when the first floor is the only floor open. You can do the big Moscow mule for $100, which makes for quite the experience. When they start to measure the liquids with a mason jar as opposed to a jigger, you know it's going to be quite large. They make their mules with ginger syrup as opposed to ginger beer, so not as carbonated and a little tarter than the most mules I'm used to but also leaves you less bloated and whatnot. But overall still pretty good. Definitely worth checking out if you're walking around mass ave. read more

My friends and I visitd Burnside Inn when it first opened in Indianapolis. It is just want Indianapolis has been looking for. It has a very "speakeasy" vibe and each floor brings a new experience. It is a smaller space compared to some other bars in the area, but it provides an exclusive experience. I don't know how to feel about Burnside Inn. I went on a Saturday night, and the place was moderately crowded, but there's not a ton of space, so it felt really packed. We kept getting forced up stairs, and we finally found ourselves with room to breathe on the top floor, which is reminiscent of a Victorian sitting room. After thinking about it for a bit, and fighting to get out (you definitely wouldn't want to be in here if something went wrong), I realized this: Burnside Inn is trying to be all things to all people. It's a boozy funhouse with live music somewhere that competes with a quiet hangout which competes with whatever the first floor is. If you went to college where you could go to a house party in a row house, you've basically got the gist of Burnside Inn. read more

LOVE this place. I happened to randomly stumble on this place while I was out with some friends one night. It has a small sign by its entrance which is why I've easily missed it in the past. It resembles an old mansion that is uniquely decorated. It's three stories and has small to medium sized rooms on each floor. Each room is decorated differently which is one reason why I love this place. The first floor looks like a typical bar. The second floor has two different rooms and an outdoor balcony. It also has a small stage where live music takes place. The third floor is my favorite. It has a couple different rooms that are smaller and one of them has a pool table. On top of all these cool things, Burnside Inn has delicious flavors of Moscow mules. So pretty much this place is awesome and has everything you could want in a bar. We loved how unique this bar was! Each floor had a different feel (first level like the hotel lobby, second was a retro feel, and third was a bit of everything). It's ok. Especially with all of the options surrounding. Specializing as a Mule bar for their signature cocktails which is an interesting take but falls short with quality selections. I also tried their smoked old fashioned which was overall quite a disappointment. The orange peel was lightly brought over a flame for a split second as if a child was showing off passing their finger through a flame. The glass box used to smoke the cocktail is mostly for show as no flavor impacted the cocktail outside of the smell that dissipated once the door was opened. Perhaps this was due to it being a Friday night and busy. But, if you are going to smoke a cocktail put some effort into it. I only briefly made it to the third floor as the crowded staircase and lackluster cocktail convinced me it was more effort than reward. I went here for the first time on Christmas Eve and thought it was awesome. They told us it was the 8th day it was open and I really enjoyed the atmosphere for such a small bar. David was our bartender and was outstanding. Everyone was friendly in the bar and it was like meeting old friends. No attitudes or idiots in there, just people that wanted a friendly atmosphere to hang out in. I'm looking forward to going back. read more
