Had a delicious flat white, best coffee I've had in southern Utah. Barista was super nice and loved the merchandise too.

I want to love this place, but every time I visit I see multiple health code violations. I wish the…read moreowner was more friendly so I could express my concerns without writing a review, but that's not possible. So here goes. It's a lovely store, and I want to support the effort to bring natural foods to this remote area. I'm here a lot and stop by every time...and regret it, lol. I would not eat prepared foods from here. Handwashing does not happen. I have witnessed countless cross contaminations, and it's just gross. Going from the register to the cafe section, using unwashed fingers with ultra long nails to reach into bins to grab ingredients for the smoothies, adjust her pants, grab a sticky bun with bare fingers, then back to the register to handle cash, and back to the cafe to make food again. Ack. This particular worker was friendly, albeit flighty and seemed to have had a past medical issue contributing to her disorganization and lack of attention to detail. Probably some training would be helpful, and oversight from the management. There was a younger woman restocking, but she couldn't be bothered to step in and help when it was busy, with customers wanting to check out while food and smoothies were being made. This is off putting; pack your patience. (And this hasn't changed each time I'm here!) The woman also had zero idea of ingredients, so if you have allergies, probably best to avoid. I asked if there was milk in the sandwich bread and the reply was "yes, it's veganaise on the sandwich." Ummmm. Ok. I asked if there was sour cream or any dairy in the chicken salad, and the reply was "yes, it's veganaise." Lol, ugh. (Veganaise is VEGAN, no dairy.) But I'm glad I wasn't able to order anything after watching her prepare orders for others. Best to get your sandwich fix at EscaLatte (Escalante Outfitters) or go up the road to the food trucks in Boulder.

We got chocolate croissants and apple turnovers made fresh everyday. The homemade brownies are also to die for. They make a great sandwich for the cooler if you need something to take hiking.

This is no ordinary pit stop in the middle of nowhere. High-end groceries, regular c-store goodies, camping supplies, local art, a bakery, and shockingly, the thing we needed most--Flonase. Two sprays twice a day keeps the allergies at bay. Past the welcoming shaded patio were the cleanest and roomiest bathrooms I've found in a gas station. These could be found in someone's home. Hills and Hollows was a bright spot on a gorgeous Utah day. Stop and enjoy as long as it suits you.

We stopped here on a whim on the way out of Escalante heading North and could not have been more surprised. Of course they have gas, but this is so much more. The store has fresh baked goods from Boulder Bakery, a pretty full "liquor store", local handmade jewelry and a lot of camping/backpacking/hiking essentials like snacks, liquids, and freeze dried meals. Next to the Mini Mart you can see Boulder Bakery in the works making fresh sourdough and donuts - THE BEST DONUTS ON PLANET EARTH - Additionally, Cache Cannery has a spot here where they sell fresh jams, marmalades and more. There's plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy lunch or coffee from Wild Indigo Cafe. If you're in the are make an effort to stop by!
