The tacos are really stuffed to the brim which seems appealing, but in the end was not fantastic as everything exploded out of the tortilla. The chips with salsa isn't too bad of a deal, nice that it came with two salsas. The chips were crispy and toasted, but the ones at the bottom became soggified.

They have a range of meat to choose from, including the typical carnitas (slow braised pulled pork), pollo achiote (marinated roasted chicken), camarones (sauteed chile lime shrimp), and barbacoa (slow-cooked beef braised in ancho chipotle adobo sauce), which I ended up getting. It also comes with mexican rice, the choice of either black or refried pinto beans (I got the black beans, because I prefer to have the beans whole), cheese, and salsa. I also added lettuce, corn, sour cream, green onions, lime juice, and their hottest sauce, plus one other sauce I forgot the name of. Since it was piled so high, it was somewhat difficult to mix everything up. Overall, it was really delicious, and I enjoyed the barbacoa. It was a lot saucier than I wanted, but I guess that is to be expected, since I did have sour cream and other sauces in it.

There's not much ambiance inside, which is fine. Don't expect to dine in here, especially when the weather's hot; there's very little A/C if any. This place is, for the most part, take out only. I had the lengua tacos. There's a lot of unique choices here compared to other taco places, hence why it's heralded so much. The tacos were homemade, and the beef tongue was flavourful. The cilantro and pickled onions were excellent additions to the tacos. I was told next time to try the grilled rib eye steak with fried cheese next time. The quesabirria also seemed interesting too, so certainly a lot of great choices for my next visit!

In order to ensure that we're still getting a reasonable amount of protein in our meals at Burrito Splendido we started paying for "double meat", but they've reduced their portions so much that even paying an additional $3.50 gets you practically no protein. It's gotten to the point where they're clearly taking advantage of their customers. We will no longer be supporting Burrito Splendido, which is a real shame because we ate there 2-3 times a week for years because we really appreciate that they use all locally sourced ingredients. I tried to include a picture of a beef quesadillas with "double meat"., but it unfortunately won't upload because. To give you an idea, each triangle of quesedilla had no more than five small shreds of beef.

It wasn't clear on whether it was over the counter service or if they come and provide waiter service when dining in, so I ordered over the counter. I had the pozole and one regular birria taco. The birria taco was very juicy, with plenty of meat and greens. The pozole was good, though I've never been crazy about radish and lettuce being added to soups...I feel like it ruins the authenticity of Mexican food, and my friend who's Mexican agrees with that sentiment. Service was excellent here. I would however say Sargent Taco and BMC are better taquerias in the city, but if you're in the west half of the city and aren't willing to travel closer to the core, this place does its job well.
