We happened to drop by Thai place when we were killing time till our reservation but what a cute fun stationary store! I would come just for this store as they have a lot of fun varieties of things perfect for gifts. Baby toys, kids books, adult stationary goods, beautiful cards, and more. We didn't spend too long but this store is already in my bookmark! Will definitely come back when I want to get something nice for a friend or family. They do have some expensive items but the selection is amazing. The staff made sure to keep everything neat at all time. This place is beautiful. Some items are still affordable. We found some baby word books that had beautiful illustrations that my mom loved. We thought we would have to drive to the bookstore in Solvang where we found it but they had the same series! This is the perfect little tchotchke/gift store on Abbott Kinney in Venice! I love popping in here for cute/clever gift or birthday cards, they have a great selection of books (table decor, cooking, etc), baby/infant clothes and gifts, jewelry, kitchen items, and lots of other odds and ends. The perfect spot to pop in for a friend's birthday or housewarming party. The store is quite large and well curated but on weekends (as is all of Abbott Kinney) it can get quite packed in here so I recommend going on a weeknight if you're coming for something in particular. Prices are a bit higher than you may find somewhere else, but again you're on Abbott Kinney so to be expected. I've always had good service from the employees every time I've been so was a bit surprised by some of the previous reviews. read more

This is the cutest gift shop with a great variety of aesthetic home goods, birthday cards, and gifts for everyone but unfortunately my experience with customer service has been poor. I've come here twice in the last week and each time, have been ignored and unfortunately not greeted by anyone in the store despite there being 3 associates up front. I love walking into this tiny store. Wish they stayed open later as I'd usually catch them near closing time. So many eye-catching things that I felt like I wanted to buy or needed have, but I never really bought much. Such a lovely little gift shop. This particular shop is rather busy. Small but still has plenty of things to browse. My favorite section is the card. But if you're looking for some scented candles, burro has quite a few brands of selection! In fact I just got one, and it's a Makana brand. makana means gift in Hawaiian and it's botanical based product. I got the coastal cypress from Burro and it smelled amazing! It's also completely contactless pay. So Apple Pay or card. They also have a small stand for you to put your drink at the entrance, so you don't need to hold it while browse. And maybe it's also a hygiene policy. read more

One thing that is making it very hard to leave a good review today is the store is unbearably hot!! I don't know how those nice people that work there can stand it. I'm really upset about this. This place has the worst customer service! I bought a journal as a gift, when I tried to remove the price tag off the back it left a big dark sticky mess and some of the book cover and come off from the peeling of the sticker. I immediately took it back and showed them what happened. The girl working there told me that there was nothing she could do And they were not the ones that put the price tag on She also said that most people leave the sticker on and that she could've taken a marker to hide the price. Who leaves a sticker on the back of a beautiful journal that they're going to give someone as a gift. For a $16 journal they lost a customer and I will be telling everyone I know not to go there. So disappointed. I have also heard from other people about the bad customer service I should have listened. read more

I've been picking up cards and gifts at Burro for a while now and am so happy they've stood the test of time on Abbot Kinney. Venice has seen so much change over the past seven years (which is when I first moved to LA, so I can't speak much to what happened before that) and I've seen so many businesses come and go on AK. Now, Burro definitely fits in when it comes to aesthetic--their selection of clothes, books, homewares, odds, and ends all totally fits the California vibe. I would argue their stuff is more affordable than a lot of when neighboring boutiques--not cheap by any means, but you're not going to pay an arm and a leg to pick up a gift for a friend (or, ahem, yourself). The shop is curated really well snd you'll definitely want to buy more than what you came in for. I believe they now have a kid-specific shop next door or really close by (in case you're a parent or shopping for one). Abbot Kinney parking is notoriously terrible, but I tend to find meters in the alleyway behind the shops (on the eastside, away from the beach) or the neighborhoods if I'm in the mood for a little stroll. For tourists or really anyone driving from east of the 405, there are lots of spots to stop for a bite ordered an ice cream or coffee if you're making a day of it (plus the beach, of course!). read more

Very sweet store with extremely kind staff. Tge products are beautiful... My favorite candle is the Farmer's Garden and I may go back for a book on crystals. The baby section makes me want grandkids NOW! The textures and colors are very pleasing. Some of the gadgets took me right back to my childhood. Great location. Right across the street from Margo's and William Sonoma's. Brunch and Brouse. Ideal for gift shopping. I've been inspired for Tge past two days to redo my bookcase and the spice cabinet. Yay! Cute little eclectic store with lots of knick knacks. They sell lots of niche brands of candles and stationary. Even clothes and accessories are curated as well. I experienced really nice customer service, all three sales people were friendly and attentive. Things are priced as if you were paying for a souvenir but given its location, I think it's a little expected. I didn't think anything was ridiculously overpriced or anything of the sort for the quality and uniqueness of the items. read more

Firstly, I'm from the southeast, Virginia to be exact. I don't do $145 tee-shirts or $221 drawstring cotton pants. Secondly, it's glaringly apparent some folks do. Here in the Abbot Kinney neighborhood, it's all about the bougie. This little store is chocked full of stationary, blank journals, sage, and various insense, candles and hand crafted jewerly, none of which is particularly unique and all can be purchased for half the price or less elsewhere, but I suppose it's more meaningful if purchased here? I was always taught that the rich live like the poor and the poor live like the rich. I was amused. read more

This is one the best shops on Abbot Kinney for browsing. As soon as I have my own place, I plan on buying a beautiful coffee table simply so I can stack it with all the amazing books they have here. I can spend an afternoon just skimming through their books, including their cookbook selection. They have some great, unique, letter pressed cards for several types of occassions. They have so many fun little trinkets and home goods that tend to be handmade and beautiful. They also sell some clothing here but it is very expensive. Same with their jewleery. I've always wanted to shop at Burro in person. My friend buys a lot of my child's gifts from here, and we finally got to check it out! They have a huge selection of gifts for every occasion, and each member of the family. The kid's section has a great selection of books, and the Maileg Mouse stash is all there. If you're looking to shop small and support a local business, you definitely need to pop in. It is very similar to a lot of the other small businesses I've reviewed, so it's just a matter of whether you're in the area or not. Abbot Kinney was super fun to walk up and down! read more

I was also pleasantly surprised to see Travelers Notebooks and accessories for them since they are very hard to find in stores. Lots of unique cards and gift items. The employees of this shop were also very warm and welcoming which was very refreshing after the cold feeling I got from employees at another paper goods shop up the street. I don't usually comment on the customer service of a locale because I get easily distracted about the things around me, but this wasn't the case. Mostly every thing here can be found on Amazon or Anthropologie, which is what I might actually do since the girls here were absolutely, over the top, snobby and unwelcoming. The vibe of a location changes when you're greeted with a warm smile, or even a, " is there anything I can help you with ?" Even if you don't want any help, it's always nice to know that you're not thought of as tumbleweed or a hairball! This why many foreigners have such terrible preconceived ideas of what LA girls are like, and sadly, at this store, their theories are proven to be true. read more

Firefly had a cute storefront with signs saying "hiya" and "hello" so I walked in and discovered it was mostly a gift shop with some clothing. There was also a baby section. They had those educational gifts people with no children like me would give to parents who then roll their eyes because their kids would never play with anything so not fun. Stick with the fluffy stuffed animals instead. I looked at the clothes on the clearance rack. Marked down from $200 to $150 is not "clearance." I didn't bother looking at their regular stuff then. Overall, it's probably a good shop to pick up a greeting card, wrapping paper and some overpriced candles. read more

The books in the display window caught my attention, so I casually strolled into Burro to check it out! This store reminds me of Anthropologie. It offers a lot of unique gift ideas, has a good selection of more specialized cookbooks, a nice jewelry section, clothes, blankets, soaps and candles...that kind of stuff. I enjoyed the card and stationary section. So, I picked up a few cards and a rubber letter stamp. They used to be called "Firefly" but changed their name to "Burro" last year, in honor of the owners' favorite animal, the donkey. Currently, they have this location, 2 in Malibu and a children's store a few doors down from this one. Burro isn't cheap, as stores like these typically aren't, but you will find some unique things that are worthwhile. This is a really good place to pick up some gifts. read more

My husband & I laugh because we had purchased in this store a dozen times & treated poorly before one day I struck up a conversation with another shopper about a luxury brand. A sales associate overheard and started being REALLY nice to me like I was fancy or something. I'm just knowledgeable and chatty thank you very much... And for the record: giving me good service because you think I'm all of a sudden worthy shows how incredibly transparent you are. This store is always busy. People are always buying & the shop girls always seem bothered to help anyone. Ummmm.... IF YOU HAD NO ONE TO HELP YOU WOULD HAVE NO JOB. That being said I find the selection of merchandise lovely and I often leave thinking about a piece I saw but didn't purchase. I always go on-line and find a place to buy the exact same thing which sucks for the owner because the lone reason I have no loyalty is because of the staff. Firefly, I still can't get you out of my head. I walked through the doors of this lovely little shop and fell head over heals in love. I want to buy everything and gift everything in this shop!!! I probably spent a good 45 minutes just wandering around and taking in everything that they sell. It's the perfect space to get inspired and find one-of-a-kind items for your bestie, mother-in-law, little sister, or whomever you may be shopping for. I bought a couple of fun cards and a beautiful print from an artist out of Portland. The cards and stationary that they sell are seriously amazing, I would buy all of it if I could! I love to give gifts, and love to send greeting cards to people even more. Firefly is my new favorite secret spot to find off the wall goodies and cards that are priceless (but a little pricey $5-$10/card). They have a whole line of cards that use cuss-words, I know....fantastic and edgy. But if you need to write home to g-unit (a.k.a your grandma) they also have beautiful handmade cards. All of their cards are really unique and fun, when sent let people know you took the extra time to really find a card just for them, instead of digging into your package of 25 from target last season. Their gifts are just as special. I recently purchased pink disguise mustaches there for a pizza cook-off I was hosting and they were a huge hit. I've also purchased amazing candles, men's disguise mustaches, tattoo band-aids, wrapping paper, really cute baby shoes, jewelry, and other off-the-wall things that you don't know you need until you see them. I highly recommend Firefly to those who are known for being the best gift giver in the group, this place will keep your reputation going strong. This store couldn't be any cuter, more organized, or just downright awesome. I've been to their original store as well (Firefly) before the kid version opened and i'm a fan of this one too (see review). If your looking for that unique gift this is the place to go. From books to wooden toys, art supplies for older children and plenty of organic clothes from infant to 4 years old they have it all. I may not always buy something every time i'm go (a tad on the pricey side) but every time i'm taking a walk on Abbott Kinney i'll be making a stop. read more

I find it so adorable when adult stores create children stores and live next door to each other on a predominantly adult neighborhood strip like Abbott Kinney. You won't find this happening on 6th St in Austin, Texas, so this really makes me appreciate Firefly. Their selection of useful kids toys, puzzles and stuffed animals made from recycled or American made companies was priced appropriately. I found some cool neon colors and art books for less than $30. I bought a pillow for a friend's wedding gift here a few days ago, got home and realized it had a rip in the seam in two places. I took it back hoping to exchange it for a non-ripped one, but the only other one had been sold the day before. They were really nice and apologized and even said they would give me my money back without a receipt, which is %100 not their policy, but I really just wanted the pillow. The wedding was in India, and I had a flight the next morning that I still had to pack for, and fixing a pillow was absolutely positively not on the agenda. And neither was running all over LA to find a different present. Besides, I really really liked that pillow. After I walked around the entire store 6 or 7 times, radiating distress, one of the girls who works there, Delfina, came up and offered to fix it there and then for me. And she did. And she did an awesome job. I was really attached to that pillow, and she could tell. Fixing pillows is clearly not part of her job description, but it was an extraordinarily kind and empathetic thing to do. She saved the day, and I cannot thank her enough. She should probably get a raise. Thanks, guys. I promise I'm not usually that big of a brat. read more

What a cute store! Love the airy feel and clean organization. Clothes in the center; clean, simple toys all around; and stuffed animals in the back. Arranged by age and specializing in the unique, wooden toys (not the battery powered music and sound boxes). Found a super cute wooden paper doll set for a birthday girl (magnetized wooden pieces so you can switch around outfits, so so so cute). Also loved the carved crayons (to look like zoo animals) and temporary tattoo bracelets (so chic!). I actually looked up some of the toys on Amazon while I was there (always looking for a bargain!), and found I'd save only a few dollars online, so I don't think this place is that overpriced. FYI: No returns, only exchanges or store credit for 2 weeks. read more
