I've been on the hunt for a new couch and my searches brought me into The Hangar. It's a cute, trendy furniture shop all beautifully laid out in Santa Monica. There is a small parking lot out front with just a couple of spots, but fear not - there are street spots around if you can't snag a lot spot. However we were there for about thirty minutes and were the only ones on a Saturday afternoon, so spot snagging may be easy. When we walked in, we were warmly greeted and allowed to just browse the store. So many cool pieces in here and beautiful items, all beautifully staged. I didn't find my 'right' piece but did see a lot I would love to have in a perfect world. You can also browse on their website if you can't make it in person. The Hangar is the BEST furniture store in Los Angeles -- hands down! The owner, Corrinne, is extremely knowledgeable and sweet and the prices are completely reasonable. Corrine, the owner, is an incredible resource and partner. Their pieces are high quality and at a very fair and reasonable price. They hold up for years. Corinne and her store are a total gem! Seriously if you are thinking of throwing down some $ at HD buttercup or Room & Board etc please do yourself and wallet a favor and check here first. Even if she doesn't haven't something you may want in store she can often find you something similar so it's worth asking. What I love is she rotates her stock so it's not the same thing everyone else has. She also curates an amazing art collection often featuring local artists. It's pretty simple what makes this place great: it's got many of the same great pieces (from the same makers) sold at outrageously high prices at places Mix and Live Style at about a third of the price. For example, I saw a great small sized butcher's block table at Live Style for roughly $3k. It was priced $750 at The Hängar and ended up being sold for less. Not only that, but it's a big space, so there's typically a huge selection of great pieces at reasonable prices. And because it's flooded with sunshine, you get a really an accurate picture of the piece. The Hängar is also special because of its owner: Corinne. She's intelligent, funny, warm and down to earth who is essentially a one-woman show. She is accommodating and flexible in finding solutions (e.g., if you need a few days to pick up your piece or need them to deliver into your home. She's also a big supporter of local artists and artisans. She's had art shows for local artists that have been big hits with lines round the block. It is also results in an interesting selection of original artwork on display and for sale. Anyway, as a result, despite our pickiness, about 75% of our furniture purchases over the past three years have been from The Hängar and everybody is effusive in their praise for our home. I have been passing this little gem since it first opened but was constantly going the wrong way on Palms. I always laugh to myself that it is called an "accessible furniture shop" when in the physical sense, it really is not. ALAS, I finally made it in today and am so very glad I did. Everything is so beautifully curated and the prices...I mean the prices are very good. Some parts of the store are more rustic french, some are more global mid century, but overall everything has a unique, well-loved look. There is also a little nook with some cool vintage clothing (I eyed a $19 malachite bangle and some Gucci loafers) and there is also a ton of local artist's work on the walls. I saw a gorgeous velvet chair with these really neat worn armrests...$520. If you ever happen to be going North on Centinela or West on Palms, and its NOT a Monday, you should definitely stop in. read more

Really wanted to love this place - I did prior to visiting. They had a mom and pop feel and posted great looking furniture on Instagram, I knew this was the place for me. So I drove about an hour to get there. Pre-pandemic in LA that would totally make sense, but post-pandemic let's be real, there's no excuse not to get anywhere in 20 min or so. But I had a mission, I needed furniture for my new place and they had what I thought I was looking for. Upon entry, there was no customer service. A rather dire situation. I went to the lady in the front and asked if she could help me, and she looked at me as if she didn't work there. She clearly was working there, behind the desk and all but said no. But I insisted, I just drove an hour, I need furniture and I didn't want to go to a box box retailer. Ugh! I asked if she they custom made couches - "no." I asked if she had a certain length in a couch - she said "no." I asked if they'd be getting new stuff in - she said "no." I was dealing with someone that really didn't want to say anything other than one word. I was about to spend $10k! I'm practically begging her for some service and she's cold AF! I ignored her, walked the store anyways, and realized this place wasn't for me. On my way out I politely said thanks for your help, and she turned around with a smirk on her face saying " I didn't do a thing ." At least she knows she didn't do anything. Shopping here currently. Got my eye on a few reasonably priced handsome pieces. Large inventory, eclectic and elegant. Will update. I bought those smart little pieces!! They look and feel awesome. I got a well constructed vintage cabinet with doors that close so gently and beautifully and a Mies van der Rohe style leather chair, both very nicely priced for their value in my opinion. Corrine the owner was generous with her time while helping me and offered expert opinion. I felt no pressure from her to make a sale, she even encouraged me to just buy a small number of items and see how they look before filling out the rest of the room. I ended up with four new dining room chairs and I couldn't be happier.
