After thorough testing, Dr. Miranda determined that my tooth had normal sensitivity and did not need a root canal after all. What impressed me most was Dr. Miranda's honesty and attention to detail. She explained that because the root is so close to the nerve, attempting a root canal could very likely cause permanent numbness in that area of my face. Instead of performing an unnecessary procedure, she took the ethical and professional approach and advised against it. I truly appreciate the thoroughness, honesty, and professionalism at Cornerstone Endodontics. Highly recommend.

The endodontist had great bedside manner and communicated very clearly, asking did his assistant. Even without the ability to speak during the procedure, I was able to raise my hand to signal if I was feeling pain (though I never needed to!) He also checked in every so often to make sure I was doing ok, asking for a thumbs up if all was well. I'll absolutely be going here should I ever need an endodontist again!

My dentist recommended Apex endodontics for a root canal several years ago but they were not "in…read morenetwork" so I had to use someone else downtown Kansas City (I live in OP) I won't go into details but it ended up being a nightmare experience with them recommending multiple root canals and I wasn't able to work the next day etc. More recently, I needed ANOTHER root canal. This time, I talked to my husband and he agreed that it was worth the extra money for my health and comfort so I made an appointment with Apex. There was only one doctor and one patient at a time. The previous doctor I had went to was performing multiple procedures at once. It really was scary. I was kept much more comfortable and the doctor was more gentle so my face wasn't swollen like a chimpmunk. I did use the pain meds but only that evening and by the next day I was ready to get back to business. I would recommend Apex for root canals and I hopefully won't need anymore for awhile but if I do, I would go back!

After I asked about them, I was told "it's like a splinter and your body will heal the infection." The pain and swelling started within 2 days so I called per the paperwork, and they called in steroids and antibiotics. It remained the same for the next 3 days. 4 days later I was told by Dr. Budig to go to the ER for IV antibiotics to "knock it out." I immediately went, and after a CT scan of my head, I was admitted to OPR for large abscess in my jaw (swelling out cheek and below jawline). I had the large abscess and molar removed by an oral surgeon, and required drains that have left a large scar on my neck. This ordeal kept me in the hospital 3 days/nights. This will cost me thousands out of pocket. Trust your gut, and advocate for antibiotics up front if you have an active infection... maybe that could have saved me from this nightmare.

For my scheduled appointments, they have been prompt in seeing me without delay. Dr. Akers is outstanding and in my opinion she goes above and beyond with not only showing care but with providing education about whatever you may be experiencing. I would certainly recommend them.

I take care of my teeth (ok, ok, I don't floss), but I haven't been maintaining them because I was afraid to go back to the dentist -- any dentist. Add to that the fact that I apparently am incapable of picking up a phone and calling to make an appointment, and things were getting rough. Turns out not ONLY is Dr. Carol Akers and the team members at her practice, In Harmony Dental Care, able and willing to communicate via text message, email or phone (whatever works for you), they're also all kind, responsive, courteous, bi-lingual, and just generally pretty amazing. My first visit in December was for a cleaning and check-up. First impressions: clean, comfortable office; state-of-the-art equipment; friendly staff; good, calming music playing; and they paid attention. Before m hygienist brought Dr. Akers in, I had told her that I had a bad experience previously. When Dr. Akers came into the room, she asked about it, validated my concerns, and talked about how we could communicate and work with one another to make sure I always felt safe. Following the exam, it was evident that the 5 years away from regular check-ups had taken their toll (the pain in my mouth had kinda hinted at that). Dr. Akers explained everything I needed to have done and ballparked me an overall cost, but scheduled a brief consult follow-up so that she could work up a full plan to review with me. A week later we met in the office and she reviewed my entire prioritized care plan (can't wait, can wait, let's keep an eye on this) and the estimated price and then we compared that against my dental insurance and my financial situation and adjusted so that we could be sure that I maximized my annual dental plan and minimized my out of pocket cost. We've started working on the plan and every visit has been almost completely pain free and, believe it or not, relaxing. She hums when she works and I always giggle a little and she apologizes. With my mouth full of stuff, I try to assure her that my giggles are in appreciation of the calming that her sweet hums provide. When she can't find another tune to catch her fancy, she turns to Christmas carols. And I love it. I had a lot of visits between December and February, but now I'm done with my work for a bit. Not gonna lie, when I was leaving after my last visit, I felt a little sad and knew that I was going to miss Dr. Akers and her team until I get to come back in for my next cleaning. They take every precaution to ensure the office is safe during the pandemic, including wearing ALL the PPE and having the office thoroughly disinfected every night. If you have dental anxiety, want to be treated with consideration and compassion, and want your mouth to feel healthy again, please go see Dr. Akers and her team. You'll be glad you did.
