It's incredibly hard to find a good vet these days. Almost as hard (if not harder) than finding a good doctor for yourself. We were fortunate enough to not have to experience any bad vets before finding doctor alex and his team. By far the most amazing experience we've had with a vet. He even sits on the floor to be in line with the dogs he sees!!! Who does that?! Haha. So thankful for Dr Alex taking care of our baby as if it was his own. Can't thank him enough for what he does! My cat is ancient, has teeth/gum issues and was losing weight rapidly. The staff at Burrwood were gentle and kind. They took care of my old man in the best way they could and even showed me the costs upfront and were not afraid to suggest that if I needed to go elsewhere for price concerns, that they understood. My reason for a 4 star is simply that they're not labeled as an Urgent Care, nor was that said to me when they were recommended via another popular vets office in Ferndale...and its also just not in plain sight. Still, Dominque as well as the rest of the staff we encountered, were the kindest, most gentle people to talk to throughout an anxious ordeal for a furry-loved one. I found out my dog had an ear infection. Was trying to get in with one of his vets. They couldn't get him in soon enough so I started calling around. Another vet office recommended me this place because she said they should be able to get me in. They have online booking, super convenient and had openings. I was pleased. I did not take my pet to the vet but my significant other did. My dog has high anxiety and talks a lot at the vet. But going here they didn't make them wait in the waiting area and brought them right into the room which was really nice for my dog. The tech worked on my dogs ear since the veterinarian had to take an emergency case. I personally did not mind that. To me, it's a good sign that they will fit in urgent needs. Though some may not be happy with that. But the vet did come to talk to him and explained what my dog had. He said they felt bad for my dog because he was in such discomfort. But did really well The tech explained the didn't treatments available and cost. They mentioned the exam fee (not the exam for the ear) is $75 but since we were new, it was not charged. To me, that's a high exam fee compared to many vets I been to, I've been where it ranged from $35-45. But it is royal oak. And though this place is farther for us (30 minutes) may be worth it for my dog's comfort. Update: I've been here a couple times now for a follow up on his ear. Everyone was so kind and originally we were told we were going to be charged exam fee but they ended up not I believe because it was a very short visit and they cleaned his ear again and he did really well. Also didn't charge us for this 24 hour topical. I think this place will be our permanent vet :) read more

I took my pet here for his wellness exam to establish care here since he in relatively new to the area! The opening lounge was fun and very pet friendly. It was clean and very welcoming with color pops. The staff there to great us were very friendly and gave lots of love to my pet! The nurse tech and the vet were knowledgeable about vaccines and addressed all of my concerns! They were pro at giving shots and drawing a pet. Although my was pretty stressed given he doesn't love the vet, the staff treated him incredibly well and had he got MANY treats. Dr. Alex and his entire staff are very compassionate and skilled at their profession. This clin is clean and cutting edge. Very modern but not in a cold way. It is not the usual vet clinic! Amazing. I was having a huge issue with my pup and trying to get into a specialist. They saw me same day and helped me figure out what to do. The surgeon they have is also amazing. The vet assistants are very understanding and they're always kind and communication is great, they get back quickly when you need to leave a message and are very patient if you have a lot of questions. PLEASE SHARE - Scam alert !!! DO NOT TRUST Burrwood Veterinary with your pets. I was charged over 1000.00 for urgent care for my cat, who may have been poisoned. The doctor acknowledged toxicity was possible, but did nothing to treat it. My pet had seizures and died less than 24 hours later. The Royal Oak Veterinary Hospital was lovely. They were shocked to review records from Burrwood confirming that they never administered an IV, which would have given my cat a chance to survive. There is no reason why my Indie had to suffer. Great experience today. I needed my dog to be seen asap and his usual vet had no openings. I was able to schedule an appointment with about an hour's notice, even with us being new to the practice. I decided to look for a new vet practice after the previous practice put a lot of emphasis on giving her tranquilizers to come in for a routine visit. Everyone at Burrwood was patient and kind with her, and was able to perform her exam and administer vaccinations in a way that was comfortable for her and me. Dr. Alex saved my dachshund's life...he found a splenic mass incidentally before a procedure and helped her get an ultrasound quickly and into a specialist for surgery. I normally do not write reviews pertaining to any establishment that helps in the treatment of animals. Having been involved in various dog rescue associations, I respect anyone involved with trying to help care for these family members. I will start by saying I think the veterinarians at this clinic are very skilled, and knowledgeable, however after my dog was diagnosed with an accelerating case of prostate cancer, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to send him to the rainbow bridge. My husband and I were devastated. It was a sudden decision, as most euthanasia is regarding the timing. From the moment we walked into the clinic we were treated as if we were there for vaccinations. There was no compassion with any of the staff members. The only person we spoke with, which seemed like for hours, was the receptionist who came in, just to take our payment. At one point I was told they had more urgent cases. We had no idea what was going on, or who was going to even do the procedure, it was terrifying to say the least. When they finally found the time to come into the room, I did voice my concerns, however I don't think they understood, assuming I was just greiving. Our dog Linus mattered, everyone's dogs matter. This clinic seems to be run more like a business establishment, instead of a compassionate, caring veterinary clinic. I had previously contacted another vet to possibly perform the procedure who had contacted me right after we had to say good-bye. She sent me the most heart-felt text regarding the situation, and she wasn't even the one doing it. I later got a receipt in my e-mail, and nothing else. Hoping the policy changes for the sake of everyone else. Please work on compassion skills. Pets are family members too. read more
