I felt like everything was well explained from the initial phone call all the way to the actual appointment. The staff showed extreme care and compassion for our pet as well as for us. Sarah was so kind and friendly, she went above and beyond to check in with us, walk us back to the room, go over all information on what the appointment would look like, explain every and all process so we knew what to expect next, walk us out, and take GREAT care of our dog. It was our first time at OVRS so she made sure any and all questions were answered! Some even before we even had to ask! Dr. Sauerbrey was so incredibly kind, professional, and took her time explaining all of our options, giving her recommendations, but making sure at the end of the day our dog would have the best chances and best treatment possible. There was good and bad here. When I took my dog to ER for an intern consult from the recommendation of my vet, it was an all day thing. 8-4. No biggie, a tech Sam was very kind and put us in a comfy room to wait for his ultra sound. My dog is a rescue and very apprehensive. She recognized this and was very kind. Long story longer, the meds my primary vet put him on backed up his GI, because he was diagnosed with IBS. The ER doc said it was "doctor induced". Knowing this he still gave him two doses of sedatives which made it worse, come to find out. (Not knowing it at the time.) When we went home he began to vomit and aspirated at 2am that night. We ran him back to OVRS. They charged us again for a visit even though we were there not even 10 hours earlier. They admitted him because he got pneumonia from the aspiration. The original quote was $3000-$5000 for 24-48 hr care. We had to pay the min. Again no big deal. They said I could call and check any time on him. When I called the next morning to see how he was, I was told I needed to wait til the doc saw him. I just wanted a general report. When the doc called me, they said I was already up to the $5000 limit. They put him in ICU without telling or asking me. The new estimate was sent via email which was $9000-12,000! I asked why and it was because they did so much more to him, but I was not made aware of the changes. I was so upset because my husband and I agreed $5000 was the max we could spend. Mind you the first visit was $1900. I called my sis who is a vet in another state and she said go get him, bring meds home and care for him yourself. I did just that. They kept him from Tues 2am thru Thurs. at noon. My bill was $8000 total. He was there for just over 48 hours. The doctor who I talked to on the phone didn't even have the decency to come in to talk to me at discharge. They said they would call and check on him Friday. They did but didn't seem too concerned. Do I doubt he got great care? No. However, the charges were outrageous and the communication was not what it should have been for the price I paid. Also, there were conflicting stories/ diagnoses from the ER doc on Monday, to the 2am doc on Tuesday and the ICU doc taking care of him. One said the sedative would not slow his GI another said it would. Obviously it did ‍. I will not be going back. But a big thank you to Sam the tech who was very kind and understanding. BTW Oliver has fully recovered and is doing amazing! Thanks to his fur mama! read more

Abbie Doodle my Boston Terrier has had more surgeries than I can name. She has one eye and got an ulcer in her only eye. OVRS went out of their way to get Abbie in to see Dr Schenk. He was incredible and eye was saved. Last month Abbie developed her second Mast Cell Tumor my vet gave me options for specialists - my response was only OVRS. Dr McDonald Lynch and tech Jenna have been so incredible during a very scary time. Surgery is tomorrow and I know I have the best staff caring for my baby. ER experience was also equally as good I was used to another very popular ER vet and when they said you will be here a while I said I'm prepared. When they called me back in an hour with full diagnosis, meds and the best explanation I was confused and impressed. I will share my story just as others have with me. Save yourself the time and headache of "shopping" around: This is ONLY place you want to take your furry loved one. Due to my sweet senior dog's proclivity for medical mysteries in the past year and a half, we've now sought care with OVRS three times (for three different reasons). Three times, they've saved my heart dog. And here's the thing: They do it all with a level of care, patience, warmth and professionalism that I've never experienced *anywhere* else, not just in the veterinary world. With so many emotional pet parents, their jobs must be unimaginably difficult and heartbreaking at times. But I've never seen anyone have a bad day, never felt rushed with my questions (and believe me, I had SO MANY), and never felt anything less than the only and most important person in the hospital, no matter how crowded the waiting room area was. This time around, Hurley had a hygroma that ruptured and turned necrotic, which needed a pretty extensive surgery, a skin flap and many, many staples. Drs. Fidell and Greene were excellent at intake, quickly diagnosing an issue that had baffled my local vet and sent us there in the first place. Dr. Greene managed to get me a surgical consult the same day, and although the surgeon's schedule was packed, they somehow found room the next week for my Hurley's procedure. Dr. McDonald-Lynch did the most incredible job with the incisions; her surgery is ART. I was prepared for the worst when I went to pick him up, and I was stunned by how good everything looked, less than one day after she cut open nearly his entire backside, removed the affected area and sutured him back together. How she and her team made what to me seemed like a pretty major surgery seem almost routine blew me away. I got texts from the operating suite from a wonderful surgical nurse named Alanna ("He's doing great under anesthesia!") and a photo immediately after. Later on that evening, I also received a text with a picture of my guy resting comfortably and smiling with the cutest sunflower blanky in his "room" for the night. You can call 24 hours a day and someone will update you like they have all the time in the world. You *can* schedule a visit, but the nurses in the back will love your pet like they are their own, and after our initial experience at OVRS, this helicopter dog mom had zero anxiety or need to make sure in person that her fur kid was OK. The receptionists talked to him over the counter while we waited, and even came out when it was slow to pet him. I watched more than one vet tech deal with a distraught owner with grace that would humble Mother Theresa. No one lost their cool or was anything but pacifying and kind and professional to a degree that made me want to stand up and clap for them. That CANNOT be easy. And the hugs! If you're a hugger, this is your place. A receptionist came around the counter to hug me when I was tearful about how I'd be able to afford the procedure. Alanna had a warm hand on my shoulder when she explained difficult things. Dr. McDonald-Lynch's eyes are so kind and her smile so genuine. Drs. Fidell and Greene were Johnny-on-the-spot with tissues and comforting words. Everything is so heartfelt and pure that it's hard to believe these people often only meet people like me on some of the worst days of their lives. All of the "extras" like that make a world of difference to someone who's stricken about leaving their beloved family member overnight (or for several days) in a stranger's care. These vets and their team are the best in the area, and it's not even close. They came to me with a Plan A, a backup plan if things went awry, and a backup plan for that backup plan, so I never had to panic if things weren't perfect at the first try ... but thank God and these people, they were. I know Hurley won't be around forever no matter what I do, but it's so, so important to my mental health that, at the end of our journey together, I can tell myself that I did everything possible for him. If this visit would have ended differently, I would still be able to have peace through my grief that I gave him the best possible chance by bringing him to OVRS. There wouldn't be any thoughts of, "What if I'd taken him somewhere else?" If he hadn't been saved there, he couldn't have been saved anywhere. I thank God and the folks at OVRS for saving my Hurley, but even if there was nothing to be done, I would still stand on everything I said above so that someone like you could hopefully understand just what kind of wonderful they have at this hospital. When it comes to your furbaby's life, don't waste precious time anywhere else. This place is the ONLY place you want to be. read more

Our poor baby Tadashi had to come in for a growth on his spleen. I look for a few things when choosing a vet that I trust and finding an emergency vet seems like an even more daunting task. -actual care for animals -logical and compassionate bedside manner -no sugar coating situations to try and extort money from me when I'm at my lowest in a situation where I'm likely to make an emotional decision likely with large financial repercussions for me personally. The Doctor McDonald-Lynch and her assistant were very compassionate and thorough in explaining our current situation as well as some probable outcomes. We were hopeful it was just going to be a growth and the surgery scheduled the next day (we were fortunate they had room) but understood there was a chance it could not be, and the possible outcomes that would happen if we did get the bad news. Unfortunately the news was not great for our baby Tadashi. He had gone in for imaging. They saw the growth, but they also saw a ton of cancer on his liver that we did not know about. Because of his situation and him being a senior dog, they told us he was no longer a candidate for surgery and though they could press forward if we really wanted, they gave us the advice that this is not what they would do for their own pet, but we are welcome to choose what we felt was best. what I appreciated about this interaction in my emotional state was that I received the care and compassion of another animal lover, who would probably give all of their money to have a just a little bit more time with their baby. That being said, they understood that I am also a person that needs to function in society and have enough money to pay all the bills that I have and they told me in an honest way that it really wouldn't be good financially or for Tadashi. He is a senior dog and not only would he in the very near future be battling the final stage stages of cancer if we went ahead with the surgery, he would also be trying to recover from a major surgery. This would not have been a great end of life experience for him, and we now have him at home, trying to give him all the love and all the affection and shower him with all the joy that he has been bringing us for the last 10 years. I have this time to spend with with because of the care and compassion of this vet clinic. Though this is not the news we wanted to hear for our Tadashi I would highly recommend this vet if you do need any surgical or emergency care for your furry loved ones. We are frequent visitors to OVRS (sadly), but I always feel incredibly secure in their care. The veterinarians, techs, and entire staff provide top-notch, compassionate, and thorough care. Their knowledge and kindness make scary situations feel manageable and less stressful. Emergency veterinarian Dr. Evan Williams has provided exceptionally thorough and compassionate care to our dog twice in the last year. He takes time to explain things in detail and really seems to take the whole clinical picture into consideration. We were extremely impressed with ophthalmologist Dr. Alex Schenk and ophthalmology vet tech Kate. When our 16 year old cockapoo swallowed a fish hook we went to an emergency vet in Saginaw that didn't have the equipment to scope him. We called everywhere and were having no luck. OVRS was the only place that came through. They told us what time their Dr would be in the next AM, on a Sunday, and they were expecting our dog when we arrived. Every singe person working there was kind, patient and seemed to truly care. Our dog has multiple heart issues so anesthesia was a risk. They outlined our options and ensured us they were going to scope him quickly then move to surgery if necessary. They were able to use endoscopy to remove the hook and fish line. OVRS saved our dog's life. Our chihuahua was stricken with a retrobulbar abscess that was pushing his eye forward and created an infection throughout his body. He was in terribly rough shape and suffering. After two doctors took on his case, they came up with an action plan and performed everything necessary to preserve his life. After a surgery to relieve the abscess behind his eye and a steady stream of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, our little guy was back to his normal self in just a few days. He's ten years old and just 4.5 lbs., and now he's returned to excellent condition. We were so fortunate to have OVRS available on short notice and provide expert guidance in the moment. The staff maintains consistent contact while your pet is in their care, and is up front about price estimates throughout the process. One thing I will caution anybody reading this is to be prepared for the potential costs of going to OVRS. I don't mean that in a bad way. You have to keep in mind that this is a 24/7 provider who takes in a steady stream of varying cases all day long. They have a staff of professional vets and nurses that have to endure the entire spectrum of pet emergencies; they operate like an ER for humans, but for your pets. If you haven't considered pet insurance, I highly recommend it. Our coverage took on a mammoth portion of this bill. However, knowing how well OVRS took care of our dog and saved him, I wouldn't have hesitated to spend the same amount in the absence of our insurance policy anyhow. Worth every penny. In the end, I can't recommend OVRS enough, and we'd absolutely lean on them again should we face a pet emergency down the line. Compassionate, professional, kind, and experts in pet care. My cat had to be hospitalized for several days. I received calls from the doctor updating me multiple times a day. She explained everything, answered my questions and encouraged me to call whenever I wanted. They were transparent with treatment options and pricing. They required 50% of payment upfront and the costs are not minimal, but neither is the care. They also allow visits if your pet is hospitalized. TL;DR: Dr. Bannink is a cult recruiter. Beware! Dr. Erin Bannink tried to recruit me into a cult known as the Modern Mystery School. During my consultation appointment, she gave me a pamphlet for her side business, Divine Powerhouse, a local extension of the Modern Mystery School, saying that my cat could feel my stress which could exacerbate her cancer. Dr. Bannink's solution was Divine Powerhouse where she works with people on their mental health. While there may be some truth in pets taking on our stress, I was skeptical of Dr. Bannink's competency in treating human mental health when her background is in the physical issues of animals. The credentials stated in her pamphlet are as follows: "Dr. Erin Bannink is a Healer, Guide and Ritual Master in the Lineage of King Salomon with the Modern Mystery School... She began dedicated study with the Modern Mystery School after experiencing profound life-changing results with the healings and Path of Initiation the school offers and now is able to guide others in this same path..." Even more skeptical, I did some further research into the organization and my suspicions were confirmed, it's a known cult! While I recognize Dr. Bannink's education and experience in treating animals, her actions are predatory and raise ethical concerns. She took advantage of my emotional state and vulnerability to recruit me into a cult or, at the very least, to exploit me financially. The "services" she offers are priced between $500-$900 on her website, potentially costing vulnerable populations thousands if they were to go through with all available options. I took my sweet little dog Dottie in at 4:15am on Friday July 4th due to bloody diarrhea and basically being up all night. I googled ER vets and found OVRS and saw their great reviews. After calling them, I drove from RO, about 25 mins. I was greeted right away and started answering their questions. A tech took Dottie to start running some tests. I was scared & nervous. After 25 mins I was taken into an exam room to meet Dr. Griffin. She explained everything they did/found and showed me X-rays. She was super thorough and answered all my questions. Luckily, Dot has a GI issue, possible little infection, started her on four meds, they gave her fluids before we left and I was on my way home when the sun was coming up! I can't say enough GREAT things about Dr. Griffin and the other staff members I met. My first time ever needing an ER vet, hopefully not again, but will absolutely go back and refer them to anyone!! I didn't expect any improvement in our cat but they informed us to give her Vitamin B-12 for the rest of her life and she's made a surprising turnaround. Gained weight (was losing in a sickly way), hair/coat improved dramatically, she looks good, her energy is good and she's back to being her feisty self and showing our younger male cat who's boss. As it turns out, the dog I adopted is a top-notch escape artist. The first day I had her, she slip her collar and seat belt and took off. I found her on the side of the road after she had been hit by a car. After a visit to an emergency vet, I was referred to OVRS. We had our initial appointment with Dr. Retallack. They saved my senior greyhounds life! Wonderful staff! We were sent there, leaving our usual vet and heading there for emergency treatment of pancreatitis. They called when they said they would.
