Bought a bag of their refrigerated FreshPet Vital pet-food a few days ago with a Sell By date of 10/01/24. Opened it yesterday and it's full of blue MOLD!!! It was brought home directly and refrigerated after purchase. Will never buy this brand again. Will be taking it back to them today for a refund. I have used them for years and I will never use any other store! When I was a kid, my mom would send me here to get our dog food, so when I moved back to this area I began shopping here for my dogs... then Covid hit, & I still shopped here with the delivery service. This store (& especially the Royal Oak store) is amazing. I had forgotten to add something that I ordered (that they were out of), but THEY remembered to include it to my next order! I know no other store would... & I love them even more for it! They are also one of the few stores that carry the dog food I get for my dogs, and whenever I need to select another item, their staff has always listened to what I need & been knowledgeable about products. As a store I'd say this place is A-OK. Good stock, good prices, fairly well organized and clean. If I'm being honest I wish they had some more feline friendly items or had that better organized (the aisles are broken up by bird and small animal stock as well) but if you're a dog owner this place has nearly everything you might be looking for, including healthy/natural snacks and such. But they also have the brand name stuff if you're on a budget. It's not as big as a megastore like Petsmart or Petco but I dig that it's local and that they have a savings card with regular specials and the like. What gets this place an extra star from me is the service. The gal that's rung me up a few times here is just the nicest, most pleasant cashier I've had the pleasure of encountering in a while. I wish I could remember her name but she's a youngish gal who is just so friendly and cheerful. I left my most recent visit feeling really good about shopping there because of her. Can't speak for any of the other employees since I've gotten her each time I've visited but she's a real star. Happy to be a customer when I'm in the area. read more

I'm a loyal Pet Supplies Plus customer. This location in particular is well organized, clean and has very friendly staff. I like that they carry a nice variety of natural pet foods and snacks including grain free and limited ingredient options. I recommend signing up for their free loyalty card because it gets you the sale prices which are often a fairy substantial savings. They also offer vet clinics if you happen to need vet services, nail trims or vaccinations. Pet adoptions are also held here usually on the weekends. Biggest con to this location is the semi-deadly parking lot. Its adjacent to a Trek bike store and customers are often riding around risking their life as people pull in and out of parking spots and fly off of Woodward. read more

My favorite pet store around. However I was highly upset with the way an incident with my dog and another lady's two dogs was treated today. I simply asked the cashier to ask another customer to control her dogs (who were on retractable leashes 20 ft. away from the "owner"). Nothing was said to the lady and when I mentioned that her other dog had attacked mine earlier in the back of the store the cashier simply asked "oh is that what I heard earlier". Not how you treat a regular customer when their dog is being "bullied" by other dogs inside the store. I bring my dog to the store to socialize with other people and animals, since he needs it (he was bit on the nose a year ago and has been timid around other dogs since). This is the complete opposite social interaction my dog needed. Yes I know this mark is not a vicious bite but who knows if this lady's dogs are clean...? I have a pit Great Dane mix who could've really hurt this other dog if my fiancé had him rather than me. I just hope someone notices this and brings awareness for owners controlling their dogs in this store. I will now have to be reluctant to bring my dog in here... read more

These people really love pets. Every time I bring my boxers in, they provide awesome socialization and lots of helpful tips. I really appreciate their level of customer service and wouldn't shop anywhere else. Utilize the classes they house here too! Excellent trainers through ACT, in a fantastic environment. It's also nice that a lot of the staff seem to have been trained with animals as well, so they greet even the most nervous dogs appropriately and do not get the furry guests panicked or riled up. Makes for an enjoyable shopping experience. Your pet will love it :) read more

Yes, it's a chain of pet food stores, but this one is still pretty darn good! Since moving here, I think I've visited the pet food store more often than the human food store (though not as nearly as often as the beer store) and I am especially happy with this one. Like every other Pet Supplies Plus, this one has a bazillion brands of dog & cat food, plus treats and bowls and beds and toys and pretty much anything you ever dreamed your pet could want. I don't know whether it's a sign of the times of just a sign of this particular neighborhood, but there seems to be a lot more organic & all natural products available nowadays. I know my cats & dogs could care less, but they're getting older and the healthier stuff is just easier on their systems. I did not realize this, but a cashier told me that you can actually bring back the food or treats if your pet doesn't like it - as long as it's within 2 weeks and the bag is more than half full. That's nice! As she was telling me this, she was also hunting for a coupon she had seen on a free sample of the dog food I was purchasing, which I thought was really nice and above-and-beyond the usual customer service. They also offer some locally made treats and toys, which I think is terrific. I saw a bin of handmade catnip toys at the counter, and I've seen similar items on other visits. It just makes me feel like they're not so corporate, very supportive of the community. There was also a big sign for a low-cost vaccination day when a vet would be there to help out people who can't really afford to take their pets in to the regular vet. At first glance it looks like every other pet food store, but I think this one has some special touches that make it nice! read more

I love this Pet Supply Plus (PPS) location. The selection of dog and cat food and supplies is outstanding. PPS carries the premium brands, such as Nutro as well as Purina and other less expense brands. In addition to dog and cat items, PPS also carries supplies for fish, snakes, rabbits, rodents, and even monkeys. Finally, PPS sells Avanti greeting cards - a Detroit based greeting card company -- I love it!!!!! The service is top notch. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. PPS are locally owned and based! I always enjoy going to PSP. The store is around the corner from my business, so if I need a shampoo or some treats stat, I will make a quick trip over there. They call me when they run out of my business cards, so they pay attention to small details. Yesterday, I went over there to get some food, treats, new food and water bowl and look at the possibility of getting a dog crate and dog bed... We just got a new dog, can't you tell? We also shop there for our cats... We get kitty litter and cat food there. The type of litter we get costs $30 for a 40 lb. bag... yes, my cats crap in the best. But, because I have 2 cats, I was pondering getting the multi-cat litter. However, it costs $3 more per bag... not that $3 is a lot, but over time, it adds up... so the gentleman that helped me was kind enough to tell me they are basically the exact same product and I'd be better off saving my money. The staff is in general always friendly when I go in there for whatever I should need. If I can't find an item, they are willing to help... they are always knowledgeable on whatever item I'm questioning, or looking for. I give these guys a 5 star rating... they rock! read more

As the proud slave of two feline deities, I am tasked to submit to their needs for my own edification. Seeing that we have recently relocated, one of my foremost duties after securing shelter is, of course, the little matters of food and litter. While the Detroit burbs do not lack for supermarkets where I can pick up incidentals and Costco for premium litter deals, the finer details which make my fuzzbutts' hallowed lives so enjoyable are usually to be found in a temple catering to catkind. Pet Supplies Plus is an unassuming shop directly across from a large graveyard, a fine reminder of human mortality in the eternal eyes of our deific overlords, and adjacent to Trek Bikes, a worthy reminder to haul my two-wheeled transportation in there for a tune-up. This aside, access into their lot is straightforward except when Woodward turns into a madhouse at rush hour. But my felines will not submit this excuse, and forth I go anyways. The cat sections of PSP curl around the outside wall, split up by fish, birds, and dogs. Supplies for all animals from fuzzy and small to large and beaked are well-covered here, and it's always a promising sign when pet owners bring their companions in for a stroll. Employees were engaging and friendly, happy to pet the pooches and offer assistance to wayward humans in search of that one specific item squirreled away on a shelf somewhere. The toy selection for cats was a bit thin and rather basic, but as I was here for more fundamental purposes (cat shampoo, nail clippers, and tags), it wasn't a problem. High shelves are stocked with a number of namebrand cat foods, including Science Diet, in a broad range of flavours and targeted health issues like hair balls, multiple pets, and urinary tract health. Sadly my kitties won't have much love for the bakery up by the front checkouts, but puppy owners, take note: they have cookies, bagels, and other animal-friendly treats galore. I was impressed by the range of known brands and the prices are on par with other major pet stores. Keep an eye out for sales as items seem to be discounted a pretty hefty amount. They also had a large number of carriers, crates, and bed configurations for most budgets, pet sizes, and houses. PSP wins on a young, energetic staff eager to help out. I found what I was looking for and I will probably be back for those specialty items as I need them. Further, their pet tag engraving is a good three or four dollars cheaper than competitors and all tag sizes are priced the same, definitely a game-winner for me. I also confirm that an earlier poster's observation of low price vaccinations is still ongoing. An awesome service to the community and one I totally support. Not all of us have a healthy income these days and seeing to our pets' health can be hard on the budget, but with lovely folks like PSP, we're able to give our loved ones the medical preventative attention they deserve without too much hardship. read more

Love this location! The staff is very helpful and so friendly. We have been going here for many years with my family dogs and now I take my not so little puppy with me on occasions. I enjoy this store but they don't always have what I'm looking for dog food wise. I have a very large breed puppy with sensitive skin/allergies and can't always find the food i want for him here.
