This was always…read morean insecurity if mine and I finally figured out how to pay for it as insurance does not cover it. About 6-8 months after, I felt my gums hadn't looked as I wanted them to and just wasn't overall too happy with the result. So I called back and made an appt. I thought maybe my gums were growing back maybe since my teeth had looked different from the pictures I took right when I got the procedure (once it healed). To note, this was over $5,000 and I still felt guilty saying I wanted it touched up. Dr. Shapiro was nice but she told me they looked fine and charged me $50 for the appointment. I cried the whole way home. 2 years later, I'm looking into getting the procedure again with a different doc which will be another $5,000. While my experience was great the first time, I felt swept to the side when I wanted to go back even though this procedure took me forever to financially recover from. But I felt since it was my smile it mattered and I wanted to love it. Just for others who may be saving for this, make sure you advocate for yourself.

He is extremely patient and explains the procedure step by step, often asking if I'm doing okay. I've had fillings, crowns and cleanings done by him. I recently had a root canal and can honestly say it was pain free. The endodontist Dr. Tran was amazing. He was assisted by two dental assistant during the procedure. She then asked what kind of insurance I have, and I said I only have Medicaid--but again, I reassured her that I understand they don't accept it and that I am willing to pay out of pocket. To my surprise, she said she still couldn't accept me because I have Medicaid. I felt completely discriminated against. She even told me it would be too expensive for me. I responded, "Is it because I have Medicaid, and you assume I can't afford it? Do you not believe I'm capable of paying?" What a terrible first impression. I have to admit that I was pretty nervous.... The ladies in the office gave me all of the information on what my insurance would cover and what I would have to pay out of pocket to get the work done. I ended up being able to book my first appointment within a few days of my initial consultation. This deep cleaning requires local Novocain gel followed by actual shots to keep you numb while they scrape away any tarter / particles / etc. below the gum line. My hygienist (Lori or Laurie?) was super nice, very great at explaining what she would be doing and stopping immediately if I did feel uncomfortable....which luckily only happened once or twice in my three visits! (Approx. 4 hours overall) She definitely put me at ease throughout this entire process and I would highly recommend booking with her for this procedure. I ended up doing three appointments (they do the mouth in 4 sections) and was able to get it all done fairly quickly. I have found the staff to be super nice and very easy to deal with (even when I messed up and showed up on the wrong day! Oops! ) I was told that this procedure really isn't as bad as it sounds and did actually find that to be true! I still need to go for my follow up with the doctor but have alrfound this office to be a great periodontist resource and will gladly return if I need this type of work performed again. Update from follow up Dec. 2017 - everything has gone smoothly and I will now be having my teeth cleaned 4 times per year instead of the usual 2 to help combat the beginnings of gum disease. Watching her go through that experience was extremely upsetting. Based on what I witnessed, I have serious concerns about the judgment and care provided. I do not feel comfortable returning to this office, and I intend to explore my options, including speaking with a medical malpractice attorney.

There is also a small parking lot in the back. When I enter the building, I go downstairs for general dentistry. There is a small waiting room with a few chairs and the hygienist will bring you back to the room when ready. I never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes before meeting the hygienist. From February 2022 to September 2024, I went to Capitol Hill Dental for all my dental visits mostly for just cleaning and exams. The front desk staff and hygienist were always very friendly and we had great conversations. My teeth came out clean and were healthy. During my visit in September 2024, the staff informed me that next month Corporate has moved the general dentistry dentist and hygienist to another office and this location was going to be closed. They offered me to make my next appointment in that other office in Johnston or Scituate or to change dental offices. I decided to look for another dentist office in Providence since it is more convenient.
