This review is based on estimate alone. Their price was 3x higher than others for the same work to be done. They may do a great job (sounds like it from reviews) but I strongly suggest people get at least 3 estimates before making a decision. For this to be 3x higher than others is crazy. Just goes to show that you really need to compare prices in addition to checking reviews. They may do great work but there are others that do the same for a lot less. read more

Saw the positive reviews so called for a quote. I was initially given a date ~2 weeks out to come and give a quote. The night before they cancelled because of the snow storm that was supposed to hit 8 hours after my appointment. Rescheduled for the following week. This time they didn't even call to cancel. When I emailed to indicate the person was a no show, they said the snowstorm that had ended 12 hours ago preventing them from coming (and apparently, calling). I needed 2 trees to be cut down before having my new fence installed. I wanted to get a jump on things early hoping to get it done in the spring. I was surprised when Joe came out and said it could be done the next day! I contacted him last week, scheduled for an estimate for Monday. Monday morning Joe came out with a very reasonable estimate. He said it could be done the next day. He instantly told me what kind of tree I had, even though I had been trying for years to figure out. It was a mulberry tree which made a mess every summer with its fruit dropping. He and his crew arrived promptly and began working. They were quick, friendly, professional and cleaned up well. OH How, I DON'T MISS The FINALLY REMOVED, CULPRIT Tree! Kathy, co-owner promptly emailed me to schedule next day visit for her Husband-Joe to give me an estimate. Joe was knowledgeable of all trees and plant/shrubs I had surrounding my home; I didn't even know what kind of culprit tree I had!--which was a Linden, at least 80 ft tall/taller than my two-level home; the darn tree was so annoying, grew sideways from back of home's "clearing"--had plagued me with last 13 Fall's overabundance leaves to be raked! I finally had a chance to have it taken down, as I now had the full property rights. Joe arrived promptly at 7 am as scheduled with his 3-men crew; instructed them of our agreed upon cutting down of additional on-site tree---along with no additional charge to the quoted priced: 1) trimming down of a small, adjacent tree bark/stump, 2) removed additional pre-existing log branch that was near the marked culprit tree-to-be-remove, 3) Joe had his crew dig up, for him to voluntarily take an unwanted, small decorative tree (which I forgot the name of) that he'd "recycle" into a bonsai-like tree to add to his re-purposed tree collection for his shed. As Joe also promised, he had his crew set up orange-cones and yellow-taped off small area of business parking lot behind my property, to ensure cars won't park where the culprit tree's branches may fall from the tree removal process, and to have his men remove those particular branches first, and sweep up afterwards. Joe's 3-men crew: Foreman-David, Benjamin and Juan worked well together; cleaned and swept up the branches, wood chips . It was amazing to watch David rope-climb and chainsaw the branches down so smoothly and efficiently of the darn, Linden tree; there were no need of bucket truck to access the innumerable, pesky, small branches, or additional work trucks onto my property; David and his co-workers were done by 12:30 pm, and that included a 9:30 am, 20-30 minute coffee/breakfast sandwich break, which I treated them to nearby Dunkin Donuts in this drizzly, cold morning. (Unlike another Tree Company whom I contacted for estimate, and was quoted with a much-higher price with the need for bucket truck, that it would be 5-6 hours job because "there were so many small branches", and said that "all the other Tree Removal companies sucked"). I also treated these hard-working men to a hearty Parmesan meal at nearby pizza/pasta restaurant for lunch to show my appreciation for all their hard work! :-) I would highly recommend you contact Butler and Sons for estimate for tree pruning/removal services ! read more

We hired them to remove a few large trees and many saplings from our steeply slopping backyard. They did a great job and had reasonable prices. Joe was very knowledgeable about tress, listened to what we wanted and asked questions. Kathleen was always available on email and responded quickly. Their crew was polite, took proper safety precautions and were very competent. We used the backyard of a neighbor behind us. I was very pleased to see that the crew did an impeccable job of cleaning all debris and leaves. Also, they were forthright with insurance, added us to their insurance certificate for the job, and they carried required workers comp insurance; not everyone carried this though. This was a huge point for us and other tree services we interviewed weren't as forth coming about insurance. read more

I don't think it can get much better than what Butler & Sons did in completing a day and half of tree work. The team was excellent and never slowed in the progress. They have great climbing skills - probably at an olympic level. They worked safely and carefully. The team thoroughly cleaned up after themselves and always had a good fun attitude. Butler & Sons have been taking care of our trees for many years. Most recently they were able to save one of our beloved maple trees, with there expertise we can expect many more years to enjoy it. They always show up on time and are extemely professional. They also are totally involved in preserving and saving trees. Joe Butler and his crew did an amazing job at our house. We had a giant tree come down during the July 3 microburst. Joe came the next day, on the July 4 holiday, as soon as the live wire was removed, and began removing the tree so that NStar could reach our house and restore power. Over the next couple of days, he and his crew removed every bit of wood, every leaf and branch, leaving our yard spotless! Butler came to cut a tree down in my backyard & half in my neighbors. It was a oak, & she wanted the acorns gone! They had to use my yard to access tree. They came &. Tied up bushes,, raked up after they where done ! My only suggestion was the ulcer was next to my porch & I didn't think to move some of the toys ,etc off, it made a big cleaning job for me! The blower they used put a film everywhere. Maybe they could put up a trap or remind people to bring things in & close windows.? The fact that my neighbor wanted it done was a little frustrating, bit I would recommend them! read more
