Oh no. I got recommended to this cafe by a local and I really wanted to like this spot. I ordered the matcha kiwi lemonade and hot chocolate as well as a few chocolate bars as souvenirs. Unfortunately the matcha kiwi lemonade did not have a hint of any matcha flavour at all. It just tasted like a kiwi soda. Not worth the price. The hot chocolate was very heavy and overly sweet. (four leaf clover? leprechaun?) I said, "Nothing really." OMG their chocolate is to die for! We walked by this shop a couple times on the way to another tourist attraction and noticed the line up go out the door. We knew we would have to come back for a cup of hot chocolate. They have several shops in Dublin including the airport. Perfect place to go to if you are looking for souvenirs to bring home for your loved ones or if you just want some for yourself. They have quite a few gift sets available as well as the usual bars of chocolate. You can also buy individual pieces of truffles. Bonus points for giving you a free one when you buy a drink. I tried the Winter Spiced Hot chocolate and my sister had the White Hot Chocolate. Both were thick and creamy using real chocolate as the base and topped with fresh whipped cream. Mine of course had some spices to remind you of the comforts of a winter night by the fireplace. I think I had a white chocolate truffle and had it after dinner. This is probably one of the busier Butler's as it is right at the luas stop so would get an influx of work-goers every morning. I would not like to work here in the morning - loads of suits coming at you first thing without their coffee fix...scary! There are no seats or tables in this particular Butler's - it's purely for take out purposes. They do still have the obligatory wide selection of mouth watering chocolates on offer, as well as muffins, pastries and other yummy, calorie ridden delicacies. I've never heard of this place before, and we just happened to accidentally walk by while in Dublin and decided to get some hot chocolate. Mmm.... yum... this is the BEST chocolate ever!! So rich and creamy and delicious. Even after living in Switzerland and indulging in all its confectionery delights, I have to say that Butler's chocolate is even better than Swiss chocolate. (And I didn't think that was possible.) I wish I could have eaten the whole store while we were there, but alas, that was not possible. I find that it is unusual for a specialty shop to multi-task well. A lot of the time if you have a shop that does one thing really well, and tries to do anything else, they fall short. So I was skeptical of Butler's, which has chocolate in the name but also does coffee. Turns out, my worries were unfounded, cuz the coffee is alarmingly delicious. It's rich, frothy and potent, just the way I like it. The chocolates are also really good. They have cases full of different types of truffles, bars, fudge and more in addition to baked goods like cakes and muffins. It's safe to say I'm a smidge neurotic. So I might be the only person to have a problem with an iced coffee being poured into a takeaway coffee cup, rather than the see-through cups that are the usual. But having to drink an iced coffee out of a coffee cup makes you look like a crazy person. Because there's a straw, and you're walking down Grafton Street with said-straw sticking out of said-coffee cup. I am most definitely a fan of Butler's, and love getting coffee in any of their locations when we're in Dublin, although this Grafton street location is generally the most convenient for us. Be warned, though - it's a small place that gets crowded quickly, and is for to-go orders only, as there is no seating at all. The staff seem to be pretty used to the flow of customers coming in and out, and were friendly but quick to take our order and make our coffees. I usually go with an Americano, and my husband generally opts for cappuccino, and both were very nice and fulfilled our need for caffeine. The BEST part of Butler's, though, is that when you order a drink, you get to select a complimentary chocolate. YAY! Free chocolate is pretty awesome, and Butler's makes some great products - on one visit I had the orange marzipan, and on my second visit later in the week I had the dark chocolate salted truffle. Both were delicious, though I preferred the dark salted truffle. (My husband got white chocolate somethings each time, so I didn't pay much attention as I hate white chocolate, but he also enjoyed his selections). You can also buy pre-made selections of Butler's chocolates or make up a box of your own from the case. We ended up buying a Xmas festive menu box for a friend, and my only regret is that we didn't get one for ourselves, too, as the chocolates in the box sound amazing and I want to try them all! Deserves a ZERO stars! No patrons in shop when I purchased a large selection of gourmet chocolates, a hot chocolate and espresso. Told by cashier to wait on yellow stand here marked spot on floor near espresso bar. Boyfriend's espresso given to him and I waited on hot chocolate. As he's putting sugar in his coffee and I'm handed my drink, barrista sees a potential customers poke head into store. Barrista immediately raises his voice to me and boyfriend to "get out" and points to sidewalk. He basically threw out shop's well paying customers fixing their drinks to usher in "potential" new customers! There was no where to put cups outside to add and stir sugar or even to affix cup lids. Boyfriend from Greece and I from Miami, Florida (US) and we are professionals, world travelers, middle aged an not accustomed to rude, barked orders to leave an establishment where we've spent our money. This shop is a detriment to Irish tourism. Spend your money at Hotel Chocolat on Henry Street where customer service (by Henry) was VIP first class and the chocolate exquisite. read more

Convenient location if you're either shopping on Grafton Street or chillin' at St. Stephen's Green, try their hot chocolate but pass on their coffee ... not the best for the high price that they ask. As coffee houses go, its not bad at all at all. Especially for Dublin where more bad coffee is served up by people not properly trained to use the machines. As for the chocolate, I NEVER refuse the free chocolate that comes with the coffee. It is expensive though, so I if I were to pass by here on a daily basis I probably wouldn't buy my morning coffee here every day. I was going to give it a four star rating, but took away a star as a mark of solidarity for my fellow yelpers who recieve terrible behaviour here from the staff. A decent take-away coffee is a rare thing in Dublin. The majority of coffee-shop franchises that sprung up in Ireland in the Celtic tiger years still churn out bitter dishwatery coffee at extortionately high prices. They weren't to blame really - us Irish didn't have a clue what good coffee was back then. But now we are all better travelled, and know that real coffee is stronger, smoother, and much much cheaper almost everywhere else in Europe. Anyway, enough of my ranting. Butlers do good coffee. It's expensive (about €2.80 for a latte), but you get a deliciously indulgent handmade Butlers chocolate with it. The hot chocolate is even better - made from real melted chocolate that they scoop from a big vat. Mmmmmm. There are no tables to sit in this branch, but Stephen's Green is just across the road. read more

You can find Butlers Chocolate Cafe's everywhere in Dublin but this one was the first I went to when I came to Dublin. I had a small taste of the chocolate and the chocolate was okay (out of 10 I would give it a 6). I am a "chocolateholic" so I know what is good chocolate and what you should be paying for good chocolate. The chocolate is decent and looks great for a little present but the price is just not worth it. You can go the the Jervis Center, go to the Leonidas store and get a 9'er (on the chocolate scale) for half the price. The chocolate is creamy but just a bit to bitter, so not what I like even though I am a 70% cocoa chocolate girl. The store itself is small but cute and has a luxury feel to it and I like that you can buy quality hot chocolate or warm drinks with chocolate. I love hot chocolate so had it not been so expensive I would have been in that store more frequently. I do not know why I am so surprised about the steep prices in this store as it is Irish and for some reason Irish products are more expensive than any other products. So if you are a person that goes Irish all the way, this would be a good place to go. read more

I used to come here quite often to get coffee during my break between lectures since it's really near my college. The coffee is the same as all the other Butlers i.e. average in taste, more expensive than everywhere else (maybe it's the hidden chocolate fee) and charge extra for soya milk, so I don't go here anymore after discovering all the other great (and cheaper) coffee shops in Dublin. The branch is take away only as there are no seats inside, and the queue in winter often goes out the door. Not my favourite, but did serve me during my first year at college. read more

I came here with my mom while she was visiting me in Dublin so we could have something to drink while we sat in the park on a sunny day. I was extremely impressed. The caramel macchiato was really delicious. They also gave out a piece of chocolate with our orders, which was both unexpected and delightful (not a word I use often...or ever really). I'd never had their chocolate before and it's really tasty. I also got a biscuit cake as well, which was one of the better ones I've ever had. ok, don't get me wrong, coffee is great, and I would rate any other Butler's as 5 stars ,always, but would you not agree ,that even the greatest tasting coffee is not as nice when the serving persons attitude is extremely rude, aggressive and so out of place.This one tall girl, with her hair shaved on one side, I think her name is Zuzanna or something similar, while waiting in the line I noticed how rude she is with every customer, she had that facial expression that tell us she is not enjoying what she's doing, and she hates to be there and have to pay attention to(just some money spending good hearted customer), it's like someone makes her to do that job.When it came to me ordering, I said to her that "I'm sorry, but i don't want to be served by you" and went to next guy, who was adequate and friendly.So I'm refusing to go near Grafton street Butler's until that rude woman is working there.After all no hot chocolate will help to wipe the memory of her annoyed face...you'd almost feel guilty of making her to do the hard job of taking your money . read more
