This is a small venue with very limited seating. The staff is quick and does feel a little rushed to get your order, so know what you want. On my solo Birthday adventure through Ireland, I was in a need of a serious manicure. The one I had gotten in the states chipped in two days and for the last couple of days I was walking through the beautiful streets of Dublin with chipped nails and hoping that by a miracle I could find a spot to have them done. Well, how does my nails being chipped and looking for a place to get a manicure have to do with Butler's Chocolates.. I promise there is a connection. While getting my manicure I struck up a conversation with a lovely woman from Dublin. I asked her if she could suggest a good coffee place and she asked if I like chocolate with coffee? Was this an earth angel before me? Anyone that knows me knows that I am obsessed with chocolate. So much so that I eat a box to myself. That is another story. When I heard her words instantly I said yes, and she recommended I head to Butlers chocolate and not only try their chocolates but that I had to have their hot coco. I saved the name in my brain and couldn't wait to have the manicurist finish my nails so I could be on my way. After some time, I found myself out the door and bee lining my way to find this place. Turns out there in multiple locations in Dublin but the one closest to where I was, was literally around the corner. As I walked in I could see the place was packed with people. The chocolates were all on display and looked delicious as well as drink orders being sent out. I ordered a hot coco and grabbed a couple of caramel crunch bars and with every drink order you get a free chocolate, so I decided to get a dark chocolate. I was lucky to find a bar stool seat and waited patiently for my hot coco. When it arrived let me tell you. The deliciousness that was in that cup from the chocolate shavings on top to the perfect froth and flavor. Divine and heaven in a cup. I sat there and savored every drop it was so delicious. If you are in Dublin this place is a must stop for all your chocolate needs. You will not be disappointed... The only disappointment I have is that there are no Butler chocolates locations in the US, for not Ill have to make Dublin a place to visit often to enjoy the yummy treats of Butler's Chocolate! read more

The Dublin Express sped past my intended stop, as I was half expecting the drive or bus to note where the next stop was going to be. I asked where the next one would be and knew I'd gone too far. Getting off, I saw on Apple Maps it was a 15 minute walk back, so followed my nose and stumbled around the famous Grafton Street. It was there I bumped into a large, well lit and gorgeously decorated chocolate shop. On exploring the assortment and knowing full well I'd have to get the household chocoholic, otherwise known as my partner, an option for Christmas from this notable chocolatier, the staff were ready to not just help my quest, but also were mindful of my budget - sort of. They have numerous chocolate cafes through Dublin and it is delightful to be able to choose your free piece of chocolate with your coffee order. Service at this location was efficient and prompt; the line up was out the door on a Monday morning (that felt like a weekend really!). I mean what's not to like here? And I chose it over a nearby Starbucks too. Wonderfully good coffee, a free chocolate sweet from their premier selection (I still prefer Hotel Chocolat though) and comfy seating. I sat at an outside table as Ireland is fastidious in checking Covid vaccination passports and I just wasn't prepared as we Northerners aren't as punctilious. It was an all female workforce dishing up the goodies and although tempted to get one of their scrummy pastel de nata I just stuck with the complimentary choccy - I wasn't long after breakfast. I noted that they only offered large coffee portions (the one I went to in Dublin City centre offered regular and large with a 20 cent upcharge to go large. Their coffees are fair trade and sustainable with biodegradable paper cups, the free chocolate came in a mini paper bag, and I could opt not to have the plastic lid so 3 green stars for their conscious efforts. We've no planet B. Oh and I note that while I've been saying no Planet B for years yon wee Get A Thunderbird the Swedish junior environmentalist started saying it at COP (out) 26. Bloody cheek, I should have patented it. But 18 year old Tintin is correct, the Earth is our only home and we are evicting ourselves. read more

What can you say about Butler's chocolate that already has not been said? Their coffee is actually very very good and they're dark hot chocolate is extremely rich and delicious. Of course they also sell chocolate. They are not as pricey as some of the Belgian chocolate places. But their chocolate is quite good. It makes nice gifts. read more

There is a lot I love about visiting Ireland. The coffee isn't one of them. For the most part, I've found that the further north you go in Europe, the more burned and, unpleasant to my American pallet the coffee becomes. Some people I have spoken to theorize this is due to the substitution of coffee during the world wars not being that long ago and this resulting in a different expectation/flavor preference. I would loosely describe most coffee over here as tasing like burned pitch. However, of the many places I tried, insomnia, amt (close second), costa, Starbucks, etc, Butlers was near the top of my preference. Mainly because they give you a complimentary chocolate with their coffee which is yummy. They also offer really good pastry options. One of my favorites being the caramel brownie which I believe was flower less. However, when I compare this coffee to others I have had from Turkey, Vietnam, and America, I cannot give it more than three stars. That being said, service was great, atmosphere also great, and the location was clean and well maintained. No complaints there. read more

It wasn't until I arrived did I find out what a big deal it was (went on the Butler's factory tour and errthang) My friends and I came here on our last day because we wanted to buy some chocolate to bring home. Decided to buy a cup of coffee (Americano) and it was delicious! Strong (I like my coffee dark) but not jittery strong. The best part? If you order a drink, they give you a complimentary piece of chocolate, which you get to pick. The place is pretty small so I think the best thing to do would be to get your drink to go! As somone who both loves and is allergic to chocolate, I know life is cruel, my trip here was a bit like taking Dracula to a day out at the bloodbank. However, the cravings got the better of me and off I went like a zombie hunting for brains to Butlers. The café on Wicklow street always seems to be busy and if you can beat your way through the crowds its well worth the wait, even if your just getting a coffee you still get to taste the goods. Its quality stuff, so Irish chocolate thats good, not like manky macaroon bars years ago or those dodgy fry's chocolate creams your relatives used to bring. This is the dessert cafe location. There is some chocolates but this is more of a sit down place. I came here for some cake and a latte since I got up a little earlier and left the bestie back in the hotel room to sleep before the show. I was impressed with their coffee. Butlers Chocolate Café is what you might call the chocolate lovers dream haunt. No, the furniture isn't made of chocolate and it may not be fat-free, but everything that I've tasted there (more than a nutritionist might like to know about) has been rather spectacular on the chocolate scale. The drinks are really something different, made from real melted chocolate (white chocolate recommended, though wouldn't say no to any of the liquid sugar pots they produce). There are usually free pieces of chocolate to try at the counter and they do have a loyalty card system so get it stamped every time. The chocolates are good as gifts with varying box sizes to choose from, depending on how deep your love goes. Don't nip in on a full stomach though, I'm yet to finish one of my hot-chocolate dream drinks in full, but I'm a fighter, so I go on back every time. read more

Felt as if i were melting.. like the sweet hot chocolate! Before I visited here, I had tried Cafe Mocha at another Butlers. At that time I didn't feel it was something (not bad, though). Seeing many favorable write-ups for its Hot Chocolate, this time I tried it. As soon as the hot choc came into my body, all the headache, irritation and any other bad feelings had gone! That was the happiest moment, and regardless of my will my face got a satisfaction smile. It obviously had a real flavour of chocolate, which makes everybody happy. I would happier if we could have one more option: hot choc with their DARK chocolate, not only with the milk one. (according to the preferences of chocolate itself.) Butler's looks delightful, and is a warm haven from the cold on a chill January afternoon. However, the pastries are American sized and sugared, by which I mean that they are inedibly sweet and huge, and lack subtlety or art. The hot chocolates are likewise overpowering and cloying, as opposed to delicate. The best hot chocolate of my life was in the Distillery District in Toronto, a mayan blend with chili that titillated me, so stand guard that I don't like conventional chocolate and also, am spoiled, but I don't recommend Butler's. read more
