My all time favorite to grab my needed Asian groceries. From noodles, rice , all the fresh veggies. My favorite has got to be the seafood area, where you pick your fish then ask them to clean, cut, fry or crispy fry. The one difference this time, they put up the glass border, we no longer able to self serve our own fish, instead you take a number, waiting to be called and they ask what you wanted. I honestly prefer it that way too! And last but not least, dim sum, and hot food bar located in the food court on the back. They sell rotten mushrooms! I bought a box of shitake mushroom, only to discover (at home) that it is all gooey and rotten. Bad smell too! Terrible quality control. Things like this should not even be on the shelf. 99 Ranch is giving out vouchers (good for deli or bakery). Got some free bread and a free dinner box. Beware though: not every deli stand accepts these. But we got about 12 dollar worth of vouchers. What a pleasant surprise on Christmas day. I always go to 99 ranch. Love the selection that they have and the hot foods. They usually have affordable prices on meat, veggies, and frozen items. There's also a wide selection for asian items that not all asian grocery stores carry. Lines are usually very short so service is very quick. Sometimes the parking lot can get busy but the inside is not chaotic or busy at all. I definitely recommend try the hot foods sections because they have small to go restaurants inside and they're pretty good. My favorite is the dim sum they have sometimes. read more

99 ranch market has a large variety of Chinese home, cooking style food. From southern style Chinese food to hearty northern style Chinese food. Everything was made fresh daily and taste delicious. The seafood department have live seafood and they also offer a free cleaning and frying service The shop is always clean and well stocked . I did notice about the price increase recently, which might due to the recent tariff war between China and US . The one deduction is due to the inconsistent quality of cashier service. Many times prior, I have received rude services from none Chinese workers at cashier stations . Complains were made to the managers at the customer service area by multiple customers. Finally, this time I did not see those rude employees this time . Glad the grocery store has finally did some clean up on those low quality service employees. read more

I visited during late lunch hours with a friend. I didn't know 99Ranch has such a wonderful selection of hot meal bars and meals ready-to-go. I normally visit the location in Fairfax and I was reluctant due to my experience from last year. I am so glad I went today. I was floored by how much heaping scoops of bento box items I received for just $11. It gave me a choice of 4 items to pack!!! The box barely closed because it was brimming with food!!!!. I chose spicy eggplant, tofu with cabbage, fried fish cutlet, and braised pork belly. It was all delicious. Omg. No complaints. I also got to taste wonton soup, cold bean jelly, Beef chow fun, fried sesame ball, curry chow fun stuffed puffy thing, Shanghai steamed and fried pork bun, as well as a gigantic fluffy scallion pancake. Can you tell I went out with a wonderful Taiwanese friend because of this mass amount of food ordered?!?! LOL gotta love the feast style lunch get together! My wife and I sought "99 Ranch Market" out of curiousity and hoping this place would have a certain delicacy of chopped pork known in Asian establishments. The parking lot was spacey. People exchanged pleasantries. People were diverse from so many nationalities. The store looked very fruitful, shelves full, produce and the meat/poultry/seafood areas appeared fresh and clean. The staff was helpful and engaging. All the kiosks and product mini-stores were well-organized. Going through the aisles of "99 Ranch Market" was like an international culinary amusement park! A cultural discovery! We headed to the very busy hot food area for a takeout of spicy noodles, tofu, tomato and eggs and shrimp. The food was delicious and served plentiful for the price. My favorite Asian market--on both West and East coasts! I was excited when this location opened a few years ago in Gaithersburg...previously I had only been able to shop at Ranch 99 in Southern CA. I love the prepared food shops inside the market where you can purchase take out (fried crullers, soy milk, giant scallion pancakes, and tea eggs at Lu's Dumplings are super yummy)... This grocery is spacious and well-stocked, with a huge variety of grocery items, including many interesting and hard to find sauces, noodles, teas, dried and canned foods, as well as kitchen ware, household necessities, rice cookers, and water boilers/warmers...there is also a large produce section, with all types of greens (many difficult to find in regular groceries) as well as a fish and meat counter and a sizable frozen foods section. Service is almost always fast, relaxed, and efficient. This is a fun place to shop and I'm super glad we have one of these in the area... read more

Came here to pick up a roast duck for lunar new year. Walked around the store and noted their prices seem pretty comparable if not identical to the Hmart down the block. What differentiates them is that they have a ton of little food stations here! There's the bakery featuring extra large egg tarts which I didn't know existed until now. They have a congee station and bbq station with roast pork (cha siu), 3 types of ducks and crispy pork belly. There was also a pay per pound buffet bar. Seafood area was very clean and well maintained. Have not personally bought fresh seafood here but was told by relatives that they also offer to clean and fry/steam your fish which is nice. Overall, I would revisit. The whole roast duck was delicious and a good value! read more

Clean, cheaper than HMart and has more food options. We are an hour away but so worth the drive. They have more Filipino snacks and food options here too. I was so excited to see a lot of the stuff we couldn't find at HMart here. Seafood and produce are fresh and well stocked. They also fry fish or steam crabs or lobsters. They do charge 5c per bag, so bring your own. They also have food stands inside. We got there close to 7 and most of them were closed or they told us they were closing. Next time! read more

I can't quit you :p It's soooo hard to just walk away after purchasing my usual unnecessary pocky grabs, misc flavored taiwanese wafers, and the totally important hello kitty squishy marshmallows. I have no fave bakery goods since I just grab what I'm craving on the spot but I do look for their sliced loaves of coconut any-crack. Heck they all pair well with mah plain hot organic hojicha, ppl. Hopefully the pics are helpful. 99.9999% of the time I post foodporn. Photos are more informative than reviews imo. But I'll still post reviews if it helps somehow. After a couple of friends recommended that I check this place out, I had to oblige. Its where Sports Authority use to be. Plenty of parking! As you enter, there's a TenRen place. I definitely needed bubble tea. I ordered one thai milk tea. It was good. If you give them your phone number, you can earn rewards. Yay! They also had shaved ice cream which look amazing. Thats on my to do list for a later visit. Produce seems decent. But there isnt too much of a variety as compared to other Asian grocery stores. I couldn't find strawberries or blueberries:( Seafood dept is where is at. No smelly stench here. Everything looks fresh. Theyll stream n cook your seafood for you. Yay for crabs!! They have live crawfish here. I havent worked up the courage to try them. They have a few restaurants inside that I cant wait to try such as their duck wonton soup or their pork baos. They have a variety of ethics products. However name brand sauces might be cheaper at Wegmans or Giant. Employees here are nice and barely any waiting in line. A great Asian supermarket that crosses between where Great Wall and HMart overlap. Went instead of going to HMart. Missed the kimchi pancakes in the fresh section. But loved the multiple stand food courts (and the sushi stand). Has some things we had to go to Great Wall for. So all in all a great store. read more

This is the Chinese market of my dreams. An expansive food court with the typical Chinese fare but it's all so good and only gets better. There's also steamed buns! I had the Sweet red bean paste, vegetable buns and pork buns! I had all three for under 4$. My personal favorite was the Sweet bean bun but you wouldn't be disappointed getting a few vegetable or pork buns either. Every part of this market is huge and has everything. Unlike a lot of other large Asian groceries, this place is clean, organized, and doesn't have a weird smell. It was mind blowing how cheap everything was! I was most excited about the food court. My friend and I each ordered a humongous soup, and endless dim sum favorites for under $20 each. On the way out we even stopped by the bakery to pick up a bunch of fluffy breads too. If you're Asian (especially Chinese) and from California, then you know about the legendary 99 Ranch Market. I say legendary since after being established in 1984, 99 Ranch Market became one of the first large regional Asian grocery stores. Whenever I'm out on the West Coast visiting my relatives, I always have to eat Dim Sum in Monterrey Park, CA and then hit up the nearby 99 Ranch off of W. Garvey Ave. Open since late-April 2018, this location in Gaithersburg is not as large as some of the other ones I've been too, but I do like that the interior is bright and the aisles wide enough for two carts to pass by. Don't get me wrong, I also love shopping at Korean groceries like Lotte and H Mart, but my preference is to always lean towards majority Chinese groceries since they carry more of the stuff I like. Items such as: * A variety of Vita Soy box drinks, including the Chrysanthemum Tea * The always hard to find Taiwanese style "Long Life" rice noodles (https://www.99ranch.com/asian-noodles/sunlight-long-life-noodle) * the largest selection of Lee Kum Kee sauces Produce section looked fine and so did the fresh seafood, although for folks not familiar with Asian grocery stores, I can understand how the smell of fresh seafood can be overpowering. I will say that the frozen food selection was quite impressive. I counted at least 5 aisles of refrigerated cases carrying everything from frozen buns, to pre-diced lemongrass, and a large array of fish/meat/shrimp balls. But the real reason I love coming to 99 Ranch is the food court. This location has an AWESOME food bar where for $7.99 you can self-select a variety of items from lo mein noodles, fried rice, stewed pork belly, sauteed veggies, peel/eat deep fried shrimp, etc. And then there is also a section for roasted meats like Char Siu, crispy skin pork, and soy sauce chicken. For less than $12 I had quite the feast and left-overs to take home for the next day's lunch. There are also stalls for a Ten-Ren tea for Boba drinks, a Korean as well as a Taiwanese food vendor. If I lived near this store, I promise you I would be here at least 3-4 days/week for takeout meals. 99 Ranch Market currently operates in seven states (https://www.99ranch.com/stores) with this location being their first in the DMV. Finally!!!! 99 Ranch has come to Maryland! For those that don't know, 99 Ranch is a Chinese grocery store, similar to how H Mart and Lotte are Korean grocery stores. This 99 Ranch also has a Ten Rens and food court area where you can get roasted items (duck, pork, chicken), dim sum, dry spicy hot pot, and a la carte cooked items. There's also a bakery to get cakes, buns, and breads. Gotta love it when everything is new, shiny, and clean! Hope it stays that way for a while. read more

Finally went to this Asian Market and they hooked this place up! If you are into asian food and items. This is the spot for you! I always cook chinese and filipino dishes so I love my asian markets!! lol Not only do they sell asian products they sell fresh produce as well. The first day I went the produce was "ok". Some of the items were not is good condition for the price listed and then some were at a very great pricing! The store was CLEAN! and easy to find things. I usually go to these markets for the fresh seafood. They don't have too many deals yet on the fresh fish. I know its always a hit or miss, but I got some Porgies and they only thing I did not like about the service is that they do not "BUTTERFLY CUT" the fish!!! Like WHY NOT? that is mandatory. HMART and LOTTE DOES! Ugh! That hurt my heart, but its whatever. lol I got some Taiwanese sesame balls from the restaurant section and those were so good!! They are HUGE! You can get 4 for like $3.80! Good deal! I also tried their pork and dumplings. Very good!! Parking is a sweet setup and they have carts everywhere so your good! Customer service was good on the floor but the seafood department can be a little friendlier. I usually do not write reviews, but today I am making an exception. I know that discrimination is going rampant here in our country. I never expected to experience it so blandly in broad light. I went to get some fish, and there were about 5 or 6 customers waiting, including me. When it was my turn to be helped, the associate just skipped me and went to the next customer, an Asian lady. I kindly let him know then that I was next in line, but he just ignored me. Another customer told him that I was the next to be served, and he just looked at us and proceeded to assist the Asian lady. UNBELIEVEABLE! I then went to the customer service to explain what just happened. The associate went back with me to the fish department, and asked him a question, in an Asian language. The guy was just dismissive, in a very matter-of-factly way. I have never seen something like this before, and I guess today everyone, even in grocery stores, can chose to discriminate against Black people. I left the store without being served and will NEVER shop there again. I am just sharing to raise awareness, and we need to stand up for ourselves to stop this kind of discrimination. read more

I've been to a lot of Asian Markets in the MD Burbs. Even more so since me and T have been going steady. And I can confidently, and unabashedly say that 99 Ranch is one of my favorites. It's not just the fresh produce. It's not just the wide selection of products. It's not just that it's particularly clean for a supermarket It's not just that they have a section with fresh treats like baos, shrimp stuffed eggplant, Chinese BBQ meats It's not just that they sometimes have Costco style tasting tables out. It's not just that the parking is easy It's not just that they have a little bubble tea stand (Ten Ren's) inside. It's not just that they have a really good selection of sliced meats and other menagerie for hot pot It's not just that the prices are reasonable It's not just that the cashiers are quick and efficient It's not just that I'd drive out of the way to go to this one over other Asian Markets. It's not just that the bathroom doesn't look like a murder scene It's that! When you spend a certain amount of money, they give you these fake dollars that you can go over and spend at the bakery. So I think you get like a dollar for 10 or 15 bucks you spend, and you go immediately use those Ranch 99 dollars. The last time I got a loaf of fresh bread. The time before that I got a scallion hot dog bun thing. I LOVE THIS! Why don't more people give me monopoly money :) So fun! read more

I used to do my shopping at 99 Ranch when I lived in CA. While this location doesn't have everything some of the CA stores have to offer, it's still one of the best in the DMV! They have a great selection of produced, dried goods, fresh products, frozen products, meats and seafood. They carry more options versus H-Mart is mostly Korean. The food court has some solid vendors. We've gotten dim sum, hot pot and roasted duck from the vendors - and everything was good! During the pandemic, they even offered delivery through 3rd party vendors which was super convenient. Prices are reasonable. Store is clean. Service is good. Parking is plentiful even when they're at their busiest! read more

Ummmmmmm, yeah....I'm not going to lie. This is my favorite pan-Asian grocery store. It's super clean, has a crapload of variety, and I can get in and out relatively quickly (except for looking for things I completely do not need). The bathrooms are clean. People are nice. Quality of most of the produce is great. Sometimes it does feel like a CF and you do have to search sometimes for specific things you need. I can find most of what I need and hit Costco in the same trip (because I apparently am a glutton for punishment). Prices are cheaper to decent in comparison to other grocery stores. The parking lot has ample space. I haven't tried the hot offerings yet. I know from family members that they have enjoyed the food. JK, I lie, I forgot that I did get some steamed BBQ pork buns. My family did not enjoy them too much but we have high expectations of steam char siu buns. I'm sure others might like them. There's a TenRen in there too. All in all, definitely my favorite pan-Asian grocery to shop at (despite a Great Wall down the street from me). read more

This was our first visit to this Maryland location. We have been to several locations in Los Angeles before, and they are very popular over there. We used to stock up on our favorite food items before heading back to the east coast because the prices were very reasonable. I can now say it won't be necessary to travel far for grocery shopping any more, and we can buy everything we need in Gaithersburg, which is actually larger and cleaner. Prices are good as long as items are on sale such as meats, sauces, and cookies/snacks. This store is also better in terms of variety when compared to Great Wall Market and New York Mart. read more
