This is a small winery with a family vibes. I loved the animal interaction at the entrance and the small variety between dessert and meats and cheeses. The non-alcoholic drink is very good and able to taste all the fruits.

I realized I have visited this winery a bit more often than I had in the past. Within a month, I came with a few friends to have some pie (Dini's Divine Pie - flavor: Peach) and try one of their non-alcoholic wines, well at the time, we didn't know they had that. One of my friends tasted it and shared how good it was, so we all tasted it too and ended up sharing a bottle. The wine we got was called L'antidote. It is now my new favorite wine, besides their Rosé. We just chilled and chatted. I have yet to try their gelato and keep forgetting to get at least one to try it. I followed up a few days after that visit by checking out a local band called Justin Trawick and The Common Good, that put on a great show one weekend. On that visit, I did not get anything and was only there for the live music. The owner was in the house, ah barn, and shared that it was shows like this that helps with the upkeep of their barn (cool share). I'm sure I will be back here soon for something.

I learned about Rockland Farms winery through an event at Fadensonnen, where I tasted their hybrid wine, a Chambourcin and their expression was to make it a sparkling in the traditional method. I was floored at how much I loved it. For my friend's birthday, we decided to celebrate it at Rockland Farm since a lot of them live in the DC northern Virginia area. It was a decent halfway point for us. I live in Baltimore city and it took me about an hour and a half to get there. We visited towards the end of January and it felt like a magical winter wonderland as they were still a lot of snow. It's in Montgomery County but it's in a farm area and it's actually a state protected area. Greg and Anna are the owners of the farm and they definitely live the farm life, they've had to adjust with Covid. They no longer butcher their own animals, but they still sell a lot of their meats and then they have two wine makers. Chris Ahn, is a wine maker there and he hooked us up along with Greg. While we were waiting for my friends to arrive, he gave us a sampling of the medley, which is the Chambourcin sparkling, and then Chris took us on a TOUR!! I love nerding out and taking tours and asking questions and learning about the process because I can see the passion in the wine makers. Kris was so generous and let us taste some barrel wine samples because they are a mid Atlantic New World wine maker, they can use a lot of grapes that we have in the area. They have a cab franc, and a blaufrankish. They make a lot of different wines here and specifically focus on sustainability and hybrid graves because it's the future. They have a tasting room on the main floor and they have an upstairs where you can have events, weddings, etc. there were about nine of us there so we went upstairs and Anna had set up the table for us and honestly the aesthetic is so beautiful. Anna does these really beautiful flower arrangements. This is a low interventional winery meaning they use native yeast. They don't add any yeast to their wine and let the grapes really do their own thing and you can tell as former farmers they really care about the Earth and the product that they're putting out. You can buy their wines online, but I would definitely go pay them a visit. They did have a food truck on site. It was a little bit expensive and the staff was not friendly at the food truck, but that's not part of Rockland. It's very cool to see a really good winery in the state of Maryland and I picked up a bottle of their cab franc, it was so delicious

We came here because we love holistic farming, wine, good food, and good times. To be transparent, I do not think wine from this area is anywhere close to wine from the West Coast, Europe, or South America (Argentina and Chile). This is a working farm that only opens to the public on the weekends. The day we went, they had an Argentine barbecue (called a churrasco) vendor whose food was amazing. There is plenty of seating, even though you can't make a reservation (unless you are having a big party or something). Because it's a working farm, the views are not as beautiful as those at other wineries. Still, the low-intervention wines were great compared to the others in the area we have tried. The service was great, and we had a very nice time just hanging out, sipping on some wine, and eating Argentine meat and sausages. They also had a playground for the kids. Definitely a place to come with friends just to relax and have a nice afternoon.

I visited this winery with a group of friends for a birthday the weekend before Thanksgiving. We had a great time! I got a flight of wine which consisted of: 2021 Montevideo (bold red), 2021 Fieldwork (white), and a sparkling rose. They were all great. It was hard to choose which was one was my favorite. I'm normally not too keen on bold reds. I'm still baby stepping into bolder reds but this was a great first step! There are heat lamps provided throughout the landscape as well as a heated dining area but overall I can't wait to visit again when it's warmer outside. I would like to walk around the property more.

This is a nice place to chill with friends and try new wine. I visited during the winter and there is heated seating inside the upstairs barn and there is seating outside next to fire pits and heating lamps. The staff was very friendly and explained all the wine options. I thought the flight of wine was very reasonable, which had 3 options for $18. There were also nice food options, we ordered from the food truck outside and a charcuterie board that the winery puts together

BLUF: Nice venue in the MD countryside not too far from suburbia & the city. A bit pricey for tasting flights. If the pours were for actual flights & not just tasting, I'd give this place a full five stars. Staff were helpful, attentive, polite. _ood choices limited, but the pizza from the truck smelled & looked good. Pie vendor onsite was pricey but their pies sold well...nice people, too! Wines were decent. For me, better reds than whites but sparkling was refreshing on a super hot day. Seating indoors & out. Umbrella tables. When it gets busy on the weekends, not enough seating & be aware for those who may have difficulty walking on uneven surfaces, a lot of the property is on a hill, grassy areas, or gravely paths. A nice afternoon spent with friends. Sipping wines, enjoying a picnic, and catching up. Rocklands is a great venue for this & it looks like a great place to do this in the evening, too. They have lighted areas close to the barn. If you're a local, this seems like a great place to hang out often. If you're outside the immediate area, it was worth an hour's drive. Just driving out to the farm is a beautiful experience. Be warned, as you enter the property, there are very narrow roads, so drive carefully! Enjoy good times at this quaint little winery!

A friend wanted to try out Rocklands and we drove out there on a Sunday in February. We started out with a tasting and really enjoyed the wines but it was very sloooooooooow. There was only one staff member doing the tastings and she was handling almost 12 guests at once. It would have been great to have another staff member there to help out and keep the pace going. While the pours were generous and the wine was good, it was definitely the longest tasting I've done. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and I had packed us a Trader Joe's feast so we grabbed a table outside and some wines by the glass and sat for a few hours and it was glorious. It's a nice sized property with a variety of seating and they also have cheese, charcuterie, chips, etc. to buy if you didn't bring your own snacks. The only bummer was that I couldn't bring my pup but we did see the winery cat wandering about so I guess that makes sense!

Hidden gem! We finally stopped by Rocklands Farm Winery, which is secluded and spacious in the middle of Maryland's MoCo. There is ample parking, and lots of indoor/outdoor seating. We made a reservation on a fall Saturday, but it was so slow that they let us stay much longer than our reserved time. There are lots of wine options: tours, flights, bottles (affordable @ as low as $25). The wine flavors vary and you'll very likely find what suits your palate. There are also good options, and when we were there it was Mediterranean. And of course, we met Paws, the resident cat that immediately took to me and hubby and stayed with us for almost half an hour -- he is also so respectful and gets social cues for when we wanted to stretch a little/moved to other customers. The staff was super helpful with recommendations and general info/directions on the winery. Definitely stop by and make it a trip for family, friends, lovers. Also kids friendly!

We LOVE Rockland Farms and while I'd been meaning to write a review for awhile, our most recent visit last weekend in the November 70 degree temps with the GORGEOUS foliage just really added to our love! I even joined the wine club so we're already excited about going to collect our bottles in a few weeks (I got a follow up post card which was such a cute touch thanking me for joining!)! Their wine is very tasty and low intervention, which I really like. I always get a glass of their cider when in season- it switches up regularly! So far the blackberry was my favorite. My favorite drinking wine there is the Anna's Rose. The setting is beautiful and I do appreciate the "adults only" space. Not that I don't love kids, I just don't often love drinking with them. Ya know? I do wish we could bring the pup but I totally get it as there are other animals that live there (hi, Paws- the cutest tuxedo kitty!). Maybe one day they can do a dog day ;-) They have a great selection of charcuterie items available and there is always a darn good food truck parked and ready to go. You can also bring outside food if you wish (and they were kind enough to hold our cake in their fridge for us!). Just really quality people that work there, quality wine they serve and a beautiful location. TIP: get there right when they open if you want to have your pick of spots- they fill up QUICK!

Lovely winery in Montgomery County, MD! Friendly staff, beautiful grounds, and delicious unique wines. We stopped by yesterday to enjoy a bottle of orange wine. The process of keeping the skins on white grapes during winemaking process similar to how red wine is made. We felt right at home during our visit.

Ask the Community - Rocklands Farm Winery

Do they have a good selection of sweet wine?

Hello! All of our wines fully ferment and thus are all dry wines. We certainly produce a few wines that are more fruity and give a perception of sweetness, but do not actually contain any residual sugar. I hope that helps, thanks for your…

Has anyone tried the Meat CSA at Rocklands? What was your experience?

Hi H.W. - The Meat CSA is expected to resume in late Summer 2022 when supply is more consistent. Please check our website and social media for updates. Thank you!

    Are they dog friendly?

Hi Angelica, thanks for your question! We do not permit any pets, with the exception of licensed service animals. Thank you!…

    Do they offer food?

Yes. There are food vendors on site on the weekends. Not sure about weekdays.

Can you have a picnic here? Maybe bring your own good and buy wine there?

You can definitely have a picnic there. It is very busy during the weekend so I recommend getting there early to set up and have a friend jump in line to grab your bottles.…

Can I bring my dogs? If not theres little chance I'll go.

Bill, we do not allow pets here at Rocklands Farm, even if they are on a leash. Thanks for asking!

We talked about some of the events like wine tasting and menu changes and line dancing. We saw more of the gorgeous venue and bookable space for 300 indoors. The review does not reflect the fact I did not get to try their wine, but rather the way I was treated when I attempted to plan a trip to visit the "right" way** We were driving past this spot on a nice Sunday, coming home from a family lunch, and thought why not stop in? I did not have a reservation because (as mentioned above) I wasn't aware of needing one and I wasnt sure when I would be able to stop in as I was just passing by (we live 1+ hour away). As we pulled into the long dirt road, the front gates have no clear sign that says 'By Appointment Only' - perhaps a good add before your clients drive up a steep unpaved road to just be turned away. None of the vines appeared to be in use so the drive up may be more beautiful one day when the grapes are on the vines. The parking lot is a bit cramped and full of fancy cars, giving us a taste of the type of clientele that would be inside. We came in and I inquired if I could do a wine tasting. The staff member told us we needed a reservation but that he would do his best to try to see if they had space - totally fine. My mistake again- I did not realize that this winery required reservations (no other winery I have been to in Charlottesville, Middleburg, or NOVA has done so) so my first assumption wasn't that I needed a reservation. Again, no sign at the front that says this and would have saved me time. The space was obviously gorgeous, the views spectacular and it felt very Napa and upscale. The staff member returned back and told us they couldn't accommodate us- ok, disappointing but ultimately is what it is. I asked the two staff members standing there how early they recommend making reservations, as we dont live in the area so I need to plan ahead. They told me it was hard to tell but that basically any time it's warm, it will be hard to get a reservation and that "Saturday visits are a pipe dream" and Sundays are "pretty impossible too". They then kindly told me "you could try to snag a reservation maybe a Thursday or Friday". Mind you, their hours are 12-5 on Thursday/Friday...I live an hour plus away, let alone with traffic. I guess my only options are to take off work to come visit as it seems there will be no chance for me to ever get a reservation for 2 on the weekends.... Needless to say, it felt like the staff really could care less for our future business and we politely left. The staff did not offer to help us book a future reservation or anything of that nature - just a snooty response that I probably shouldn't bother every attempting to return on a weekend. Hilarious enough, I decided to look up their website and low and behold - they had tasting reservations that same day at 3 PM (45 minutes after we first asked about a tasting) - no offer to us to wait or come back to return, just basically turned away. Cherry on top- they have tons of reservations open for future Saturdays and Sunday. If you don't want my business, you dont have to tell me twice. If I want to deal with pretentious folks, I'll fly to Napa and drink wine actually grown onsite.
