Ohhh so good Pandan Coconut. Unforgettable.
    Nat P.

I have a sweet tooth, and I have tried a lot of recipes and tasty goods in my life while traveling. I've always had a favorite: anything extremely rich, gooey or chocolatey. My nose lead me to this cute and super simple bakery located inside the Devonish shopping building. The store itself is very clean, and as I said, before, simple. I wish the display case would've been much better lit and contained more sample/display pieces. To get to the bakery, you'll walk along a creaky-footed hallway with beautiful hardwood and quaint little shops on each side. This bakery was filled with a incredible scent and hard-working young people. I got a super friendly greeting, and at the recommendation of the young man who helped me, I chose a croissant that I will never ever forget!!! The Pandan Coconut is some kind of heavenly flakey tasty desert that will leave you questioning why you've never tried one before! There's a rich creamy custard in the center, embraced by un croissant superbe! Délicieux! I have no idea how they got this incredible green color but there's absolutely nothing green tasting about it. It's a soft buttery croissant, topped with coarse sugar sprinkles. Not sure what the parking would be like to enter this shopping building, it looked like that could be an issue at peak hours. Great location easy to find. Both thumbs up!

The latest addition to the local bakery scene in Calgary! Locally owned and operated, Butter Block serves an array of pastries (cookies, bread pudding, cheese knots...etc), with its main focus being croissants. Their croissants are super flaky and crispy, with every single pastry being made fresh daily. They have some very unique croissants that you can't find anywhere else, such as double baked matcha, black sesame and even some very delicious savoury options too (baba ganoush croissant sandwiches!). My favourite is the almond (surprising since I used to hate almond croissants) and the cheese knot (they do not skimp out on the cheese). The owners definitely put a lot of care into their products and are passionate about what they do. You can feel it (or smell it) in the air when you go visit them in store. They're tucked away inside the Devenish building on 17th ave and are open despite the construction going on. If 17th ave is a bit of a trek away, no worries, because their baked goods can be found at various local coffee shops - all the Monogram coffee locations and Sought x Found coffee. I will definitely return! I could eat a pastry each day, but unfortunately my waistline does not approve this.

Great new bakery on 17th Ave. They're located inside the building across from Best Buy if you're having a little trouble finding them. They're in soft opening mode right now and are still working on final touches in their space. That isn't stopping them though from putting out some great pastries. I gave their chocolate chip cookie and chocolate croissant a try and both were excellent.

Butter Block makes for an A+ breakfast (although definitely on the indulgent side) they open at 7:30 AM so I stopped in before heading to the office and grabbed a double sesame croissant for my desk. The croissant was perfection, buttery, flaky and indulgent, I'll definitely be back to try some of the other offerings. Karen is very friendly and obviously passionate about her craft. The store is tucked inside the Devenish building in case you're having trouble finding it, just head inside and down the hallway. It looks like they recently added some signange in the hallway that sticks out a bit and makes identifying the retailers and stores a bit easier.

If you love flaky croissants, this place is for you. The almond croissants from this bakery are addiction.
