My first time visit. Parking was easy. Arrived at 7:30 am. No lines. The service was good and helpful with suggestions. The employee who helped me was from the Netherlands. I bought a half loaf of sourdough bread and a half loaf of the hearty wheat bread. My husband wondered how we were going to be able to eat all that bread but we did. I also bought a package of 4 English muffins. I didn't care for them as much. They didn't have any holes so they couldn't toast crispy. The prices aren't your ordinary Whole Food prices but higher. That being said you get what you pay for. I'll come back to try their scones. Plus I learned that you can call in or fill out a form to place a future order so that eliminates any lines. read more

I love that we have a wonderful bakery nearby selling amazing baked goods! I have not tried their breads or sandwiches yet however their dessert and pastry section are divine. Our favorites so far are their: *Chocolate coconut macaroons *Raspberry squares *Bread pudding I've also tried their pizza slices. The pizza is decent although their pizza sauce leans sweet. There is metered parking on Main street or metered public parking lot next door if Main street is full. Service is swift and friendly and on certain days the line goes out the door. I got a few things to go and was excited to try it out. The vibe inside is really cool, old fashioned almost feels like the famous newsstand down the street. This feels more like a breakfast pastry kinda place than a cake place, if that matters to you, but they definitely have a range of baked goods. Everything I had was tasty, the guy working the counter gave me some great suggestions. Only reason I'm saying 4 instead of 5 is because they reheated my pepperoni focaccia in the microwave, which just doesn't give the best result. I would definitely go back and maybe reheat on my own if I wanted something hot. Breads looked beautiful. read more

I came here to try their baguette. That's my primary bakery product. No scones or muffins for me. Got it home and tried it with good high butter fat butter. It was quite good except that it had too many large air holes. Didn't knead it before rolling it out. Not like the French bakeries. They have pizza slices and other breads. read more

A fantastic little bakery in south Evanston, with a large variety of bakery goods, focusing on bread and pizza. The pastries are also yummy, using high quality ingredients over a selection of traditional and chef created savories and sweets. I've tried the cookies, cinnamon roll, rosemary and Vienna breads. Let me not forget the yummy, perfect pretzel. It's soft and flavorful, and would most likely be delicious warmed up, but my pretzels have yet to make it home. This bakery is locally owned, by a local family. Supporting local businesses is a superpower, and I will put my money where my mouth is with this bakery and continue to help them grow. This place just opened and I already went three times in one week! I've tried their bread, sandwiches, and pastries so far, and everything was wildly delicious. Great addition to South Evanston, and in walking distance for many as it's on the same block as the Metra! Infinite bonus points for their nice, normal pricing that isn't tone deaf to the neighborhood's income diversity. And finally, they are on a walkable stretch, have a bike rack out front, and another reviewer said the owners are cyclists, which just makes me (as a neighborhood cyclist disappointed by the anti-bike-lane-activist businesses up on Dempster) excited for Main Street to be on such a roll with great additions (Button Bakery is instantly beloved, too - it's never empty, which is wild for a place that just opened a few weeks ago). read more

Wow, what a wonderful addition to the neighborhood! You can smell the delightful treats from afar as you approach this quaint shop. The people are incredibly friendly and even got chairs out for us so that we could enjoy our breakfast outdoors. Prices were reasonable (around $3 for a scone, cinnamon roll, or muffin) and there was a nice variety. The cranberry orange muffin was moist and almost cake like with a subtle glaze. The double chocolate chip scone was delightful and not at all dense or hard as some scones can be. The pretzels were fresh out of the oven and had a bread like quality. So far, it's been great. Small but fresh and I think family owned. I love that they have pizza by the slice...Evanston lacks this - especially south east. I studied in France for a year and a half when I was in college. Then I ended up living in Italy for many years. In other words, I am utterly addicted to high-quality bread. A crusty loaf of sourdough is always delightful. The Main Multigrain is exceptional. I'm always searching for European-style bread. That doesn't cost a lot of "dough", so to speak. I have found it at The Button. Since I live in the neighborhood, I frequently walk by Button Bakery, and it is nearly always jam-packed. Since the day it opened. How many businesses are successful from day one? They have great sandwiches, pizzas, pretzels, and loads of sweet treats for those of you with a sweet tooth. I'm thrilled that they are doing so well, and not just for them. From a totally selfish standpoint, I want them to stay open forever and a day, so that I can buy my breads and pretzels close to home. This place is an absolute treasure in our neighborhood! Everyone working here gives exceptional service. Also, it is so quaint inside, with fully stocked bakers cabinets, and beautiful glass cases, it is a treat for the eyes (as well as for your tummy)! As if all these things weren't enough, the food and baked goods are incredible! We treated ourselves to 2 of their salted pretzels, a cheese pizza, and a pepperoni pizza. I also couldn't help myself from scooping up a loaf of fresh sourdough bread, and a chocolate crinkle cookie! My absolute favorite so far has been the plain banana muffins. Don't Get me wrong, the banana chocolate chip muffins are very good too but I've never had a more delicious muffin than the plain banana. I have had yelp for years and never left a review. I actually needed to leave a review for Button Bakery. I even called the bakery to let them know. I'm a home baker myself, their chocolate chip cookie is the best most amazing cookie I have ever had in my entire life. I literally took a bite and stopped walking. It's perfectly chewy, big, the chocolate was amazingly melty, and had crunchy bits that I assume are either pieces of nuts or pieces of oatmeal. Either way it was absolutely fabulous, service was very fast even though it was busy in there. Warm, welcoming environment. Staff was lovely.
