Please bring back the old version of COCO BREW. I'm begging. I've been a regular since they first opened a few years ago, I think around 2019? Their Coco Brew used to be one of my absolute favorite coffee drinks for years, up until recently. I'm not exactly sure when the recipe changed, because as far as I remember it still tasted the same through 2025. I've been busy this year and haven't come as often, but the last three times I ordered it, it was completely different. And since it was made by different baristas, I'm assuming this is a recipe change rather than just inconsistency. (Check the photos to see the differences!) The old version was much lighter, mildly sweet, and had that lovely coconut milk aroma. It tasted fresh, smooth, and really balanced. The new version is totally different. The first thing I noticed was the color. It's way darker now. And the taste matches: darker, more sour, and with a strange almost medicinal aftertaste (reminded of some cough medicine..) The gentle sweetness and mildness are completely gone. Now it somehow tastes strong, sour, and watery at the same time. What happened?? Please don't change something that was already so good. Even the ice seems different now. It used to have smaller ice pieces that filled the cup more evenly and let the liquid move through, so you got that really pretty layered look with the coconut milk and cold brew. Now it's large chunks of ice just floating on top. Anyway, this is just my little heartbreak over a drink that used to be so beautiful and delightful. Other than that, the vibe is still nice as usual, maybe a bit more crowded than before. The decor is still cute, and I've always liked the woody interior. It's also one of the brighter coffee shops in Evanston, with really nice natural light. read more

Love this bright, clean, and professional coffee spot! Plenty of free parking with a large lot attached, which makes stopping by super easy. The baked goods are incredible, and the baristas are friendly and easy to chat with. Lattes are beautifully made, and I really appreciate the care put into the latte art. One of my favorite breakfast shops in Evanston, Illinois is Newport Coffee House. The brewed coffee is bold, unique and full of complexity. I usually get the black drip coffee (my favorite) but if I arrive in the afternoon I'll have a pour over or latte. My daughter will get a Matcha which she thoroughly enjoys. The breakfast/bakery selection is plentiful and I never have a problem finding something to eat. I've had really good luck with their vegan options (banana and oat bar) and really like the scones and cinnamon buns. The service is fast and attentive and there's usually enough tables available to sit and relax. Plus the atmosphere is warm and comfortable. read more

Newport Cafe is my Happy place! Ever since I've been visiting Evanston I love relaxing here and getting a garlic knot pastry and hot or cold beverage on a daily basis. This cafe has greatly improved my mental wellbeing just because of the truly kind hearted and welcoming staff that make this cafe so enjoyable for their guests. I've loved every drink I've purchased here whether it's the green smoothie, iced chai, lavender lattes, or iced chai. The barristas here really know how to create a truly delicious coffee or smoothie and the quiche, pastries and cookies are all made her homemade daily on the premises. I highly recommend the ham and cheese croissants and savory garlic knots. Being here is addictive. I see the same group of happy repeat guests here weekly and the ambiance here is always creative and cheerful. Wanted to stop by for a quick drink. Place is open and modern aesthetically. Barista was friendly and I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk. I was a little disappointed. Cool hipster place for getting coffee in Evanston. It fits in with the college atmosphere, good for reading, studying, or pretending to do something. Newport has coffee but there's also great pastries and treats. Has some that are non dairy. The inside isn't too loud like some places that crank up some indie crap music. Breakfast and morning is the busiest time here. It's expected, but even then there's usually enough tables available inside. There's lots of the smaller tables and a few of the bigger ones. Clean atmosphere. Light colors such as white. As for the coffee, good stuff from what I've had. It's about $4 for a latte. There's non dairy milks such as oat. Also there's some good things to eat. It's about $3 for cookies and treats. Has a few vegan ones to get. Last time I got a Vegan Banana Oat Bar and a Vegan Chocolate Cookie, and these were like the real things. Good place for getting coffee. It's also a place to munch on some healthier oat bars and such. There's plentiful options among both the coffee and treats for vegans and vegetarians. read more

I finally got to try this coffee shop after a few attempts because parking is nearly impossible on this street and the nearby streets. It's so nice and modern inside. There was a nice cashier who answered questions about the menu and told me where to find the wifi info because I was planning to work while I drank my iced matcha latte. The drink was good but the music was a little loud for a Monday morning - I found it wasn't the best environment for me to be working. Still, I enjoyed my matcha latte and the fresh interior with the cool white and black decor. Also, they had (what I assume to be) the restroom area blocked off, but it wasn't clear why. I'm looking forward to going back to try the coffee someday. read more

This place is very bright and open. It's my first time going here. This place gets busy quickly. The staff are friendly and you can see them make the drinks. I ordered a cortado and their goat cheese, spinach and sun dried tomato brioche. Everything was really good. The brioche was very soft and flavorful. One of many coffee shops in or around downtown Evanston. Nice looking decor, clean look, maybe a bit on the sterile side. Staff were friendly but their service was slow and they weren't particularly busy at the time. Had a scone which was fine but the Americano I ordered was just not drinkable. My mistake was taking it on the go and thinking it would be ok and not taking it back. It lacked a strong espresso flavor. It was weak so tasted watered down and don't think the beans were fresh since it left a stale flavor with a strong aftertaste. Adding milk to it didn't help. Others I was with didn't particularly like their drinks either but they did finished theirs. My drink went nearly full into the garbage a few blocks away. Won't go back. read more

Chai Latte with Almond milk was very good. We took a vegan cookie and strawberries scone. The pastries were just a dry mix of flour and sugar. Absolutly not eatable. Very dissapointing. We visited Newport Coffee House for the first time last weekend. We ordered the Date Cardamom Latte because it sounded interesting, and we enjoyed the flavor. The espresso shot alone was tangy, which we didn't care for on its own, but it worked with the latte. We also got the Vegan Banana Oat Bar. It's not much to look at visually, but it was shockingly good. It tasted like a banana muffin with some unexpected textures. It was pretty lively in there on a Saturday. This place is awesome! I came in here on a Saturday afternoon approximately 16 minutes prior to their close time as published online as well as on their door. I went in and was warmly and kindly greeted by a blonde lady who actually invited me to order and eat as well as dying in with my food and drink. She was very helpful and even offered to warm up a scone. After close time of 4 o'clock nobody locked the door in fact over 12 additional customers walked in and were all helped by the same blonde lady. I was very shocked as this is not typical culture especially in downtown Evanston with a specific time to close. I had the iced matcha latte with almond milk , a cinnamon scone and my friend had a decaf whole milk latte all of it was very delicious and hand made. I definitely will come back here considering the competition of boutique coffee shops in downtown Evanston as this place is clean super kind truly defines excellent customer service and has a great location. read more

Came here to work for a bit.... Well at least attempted to. The coffee to me was decent but the wifi didn't work. The workers were nice but the place itself is a bit smaller than expected. Some tables have chairs and the high tables have backless stools. Not the most comfortable if you plan to work for a while. read more

The coffee is quite good. The atmosphere is clean, bright, and very upscale. But, I can't give this place, or any coffee place, 5 stars when they don't have heavy cream. I just don't get it. Half-and-half is nowhere near the same thing. If you position your coffee store to be high end, you have to have heavy cream. Period. read more
