My sister, nephew and I wanted to do Middle Fork this year and I remember it being an adrenaline rush and challenging but so fun- We picked a Tuesday so it was not crowded, but when it ended up being just the three of us in the raft with Juli, I was a little nervous, remembering how intimidating tunnel chute was- and I didn't have the security of a full raft of people to weigh down the raft and help paddle to build up speed. This just goes to show you how important a seasoned veteran rafting guide is Juli was amazing. He gave clear instructions, he was very calm, and he managed the raft like a pro. No no flipping over and no one fell out. So exciting! Now I want to go to Costa Rica and look up Whitewater excitement there and request Juli. Hope to do this at least one more time this year. If I lived closer, I would go more often. Ps- I read some people complaining that you have to pitch in to carry the raft from the water up to the trucks and from the trucks down to the water, I've only been with one company that did not ask you to do that. All the rest have always had the rafters help out in pitch-in.

Sierra Mac helped my boys and I to have the spring break of a lifetime! With no rafting…read moreexperience, Sierra Mac gave these newbies a taste of the Tuolumne River that was unforgettable. The group we rafted with was cohesive and kind, and the guides were patient, but challenging. We had the opportunity to be part of a rowing school and to understand the "science" of rafting. Examples of instruction were navigating into an eddy, ferrying across a current to the other side of the river, tying off a boat, setting up angles, and reading currents were just a few skills that were taught. Sierra Mac and our group was welcoming, eager to teach, and patient all the while giving appropriate feedback. The instruction truly was "hands on" as we got the opportunity to take a turn at rowing to learn the basic mechanics of boat rowing. While we expected to be in tents, we actually slept without them, and this ended up being a cool experience for us and pushed my teenagers to realize it can be done! Highly recommend Tom and the whole crew. Every guide was a class act, and we particularly appreciated how many combined years of experience they all brought. Next time, I'll bring a GoPro camera to capture the thrill a little better on the rapids. We hope to be able to do this again! Thank you Tom and Sierra Mac!

I think regardless where you go renting a jet-ski will always be pricy just because of all the rules on the water itself. For an hour with the lowest insurance and gas we spent $170. But like I mentioned we had a blast. It was fun cruising on the delta. This is definitely a hidden gem in Stockton. They also have boat rentals and a boat with a captain for large parties which seemed very affordable for large parties. I can't wait to go back.

And this morning took my eight-year-old granddaughter out for an hour on a tandem kayak. it was a perfect activity for grandpa, relaxing for us both, enjoying nature and gentle easy conversation ensued. The pricing of rentals, is competitive, or even lower than some of the other facilities in Lodi and other places etc. what helped me make the decision about renting here, was the fabulous customer service from both Vern and Shawn. friendly, detailed, helpful... The fish hatchery itself is a neat little informative spot where you can learn all about the fish…read moreand walk through the hatchery to see the fish at different stages. It's interesting to do and we have walked through many times. Just as enjoyable, though, are the nature areas just before the hatchery and the river access. We like to come here to enjoy the sounds of the water and take short walks with our dog. It's really a lovely place to stop for an hour or two and just enjoy the peace and quiet. The trails are very short but they do have picnic tables and we have enjoyed a nice lunch here by the lake as well. I think a more fitting name would be the Mokelumne Fish Hatchery and nature area because we happened upon this location by chance but I am so glad we did. We probably make the drive here 3-5 times a year and it is definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.

Our guide, Kylen (?) was a MASTER oarsman (best I've ever seen...), giving us clear instructions when we came upon some unusually challenging rapids. In some sticky situations that other boats got into, he was right ON IT to help them without hesitation, often seeing a problem before anyone else had. I felt completely safe in his care. He also "read the group" really well, connecting easily with everyone. Despite his amazing professional skill and emotional intelligence, he was very low-key and humble... to me, that's a sign of a lifelong learner. This was our 4th trip with OARS. There's so much care into the preparation, the selection and training of the guides and the well-oiled execution on these trips. We're already planning our next!

From incredibly attentive and knowledgeable guides to luxurious camping accommodations, they take care of you. All you have to do is show up and paddle. Maybe you don't even have to paddle if you're sitting in the gear boat. The American River trips are an easy day trip from Sacramento or the Bay Area. If you're looking for a little more adventure, a multi-day guided whitewater trip is so fun, with lots of downtime to swim, look at the stars, play games, and eat yummy food. There's no freeze dried camp meals here. Everything is boated in and prepped on the beach for you. So good. All around, so good.
