I have been through BWI airport several times now and I will say that I am very impressed with the layout of the airport. Back in the old days, BWI airport was very difficult to get around and if you had a short timeframe between connection flights, chances are you will not make your next flight. The airport has been through several renovations, and it is much more adaptive to get around the airport. The selection of restaurants are much better depending on which terminal your flight comes into. BWI has a beautiful ambiance and everything is easily accessible in the airport. It is a great airport and would choose to connect through BWI anytime if I go to visit family in NC. read more

I always fly out of BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. It's convenient and has a Southwest Airlines hub, which I tend to fly domestically. I have flown out internationally on occasion, without any difficulty. They have plenty of on and off-site parking (with free transportation to and from the airport). There is also a Marc train station, and public transportation options in addition to ride share services. They have plenty of food and shopping options available. They are currently undergoing a renovation which will provide better luggage retrieval and more food options. This airport is not too big and also not too small, the perfect size to sprint to the last gate and hopefully, lol, make your flight when you're short on time. All in all, this a perfect airport for me and meets most of my flying needs, especially domestically. read more

I am finding myself come here a bit more often than IAD. I live in the middle between these two airports and luckily have the choice between the two. The American Legion Bridge is the worst and it does prevent me from wanting to go to IAD. This airport is a bit out of the way as it isnt well situated in the area. Kind of still have to go through residential areas to get here. They have cheaper long term parking options compared to IAD. The bus system isnt bad, but it can be a bit unreliable at times. The security line for Pre-Check is quite quick compared to IAD - where it seems like everyone has Pre-Check and the Pre-Check line can take longer than the regular line. They do have a beautiful bathroom in the terminal and its quite clean. The airport just is not that crowded compared to IAD. It isn't a bad choice at all. Definitely a doable location and a good option if your flight comes out from here. It just does not have those up to date bells and whistles and the impression that you entered a major metropolitan area. read more

They must have built this airport for more travel or passengers because the airport is very spaced out and looks desolate in some areas. They have a giant bar at the end of the terminal. The Walk from ABC terminal is too far away from terminals D&E. The food selection here is decent. I liked the selection of eateries and pubs. read more

I actually prefer BWI airport more than others primarily because of the proximity of the airport to my house and the size of the airport. I truly despise all the running to different concords just to get to your gate. BWI is smaller so it doesn't become as chaotic compared to Dulles. read more

On the nicest concourse at BWI. On D concourse, it has decent food options Dunkin, Market Express, Auntie Ann's pretzels, PHILLIPS Seafood, Brix n Vine, BWI the club lounge. They have a strip of seats with charging stations. However, they need to do better, the seats near United dont work. You have to hunt for the wall outlets, or know how to make your plug stay put. Employees here are nice. Bathrooms are clean. I wish the A concourse was like this. read more

Never been to BWI until mamas birthday trip! . the customer service my family received was very nice and helpful! 8-9-25 flight 1040 7:00am to PUJ Punta Cana I want to acknowledge Scott Wall (helped w/wheelchair), Olivia (morning flight attendant) they were so helpful and conversational and treated the whole fam well!... on the way back to Baltimore flying Spirit flight 1041 8-12-25! another flight attendant I didn't get his name but I got a photo! , his interaction with my niece was a Aww so nice moment! She was just like he's giving me all these things idk what they are hahaha! I said you're helping him keep everybody on the plane safe!, he helped me find the bathroom and made sure my mama got what she needed with no problem extremely kind!! and patient! ... now I see why ppl like BWI! The security line was slow, but compared to the clear line was awfully painful...clear is doing an update/upgrade on all members and lawd have mercy...it took forever. Now I'm at the Starbucks trying to get a bagel bc I need to eat something foreal. I have 1 star because the tsa guy said I couldn't use 2 bins. I had to stuff all my belongings in 1 bin which made my boots have to touch everything else. I was thoroughly annoyed. Plus the lady behind me was ridiculously annoying. I connect through Baltimore often, so I full extremely comfortable with a strong 4. I most often and limited to Concourse A which is Southwest. I cannot recall a security checkpoint or baggage claim experience to mention. The center food court has a lot to offer and it's updated. My favorite on the go is Chick Fil A and is closed on Sundays. I am convinced the best time to catch a flight out of BWI is first thing in the morning, like a 5 am flight. Yes it can be super early but you miss a lot of the hustle and bustle of the airport. The TSA Pre-Check line is not as long as the regular TSA line early in the am so getting through was a breeze and not having to take your shoes off and all allows you to keep it moving, literally! The airport is a big one so have your game plan in place before your arrivals so you know where you need to be to maximize your time. Utilize the rolling walkways whenever you can, not only are the quick, well at least it feels like you are saving time lol. BYOB too, water bottle that is as they have water refill stations throughout the airport. If you need to park at the airport while you are gone, the Express Lot is where it is at!! No matter the time the shuttle comes to the actual parking space to pick you up, they will help you unload your luggage and provide you with a slip with the space number you parked in. Now I will say I cannot say this is standard customer service ( I would like to think it is) but it was the level of customer service I received and it was helpful and appreciated. Plus both drivers upon the departure and arrival back at BWI operated in the same manner. read more

This has been my preferred airport of choice. I find it easier to get to compared to the others in the area. I prefer early morning flights - less traffic on the road and not too crazy getting through security. I use the long term parking options and the shuttles to and from the terminal. It's $8/day for the long term lot and $12 for the garage. I don't know an exact schedule or timing of these shuttles but I give myself so much time when traveling that I never worry about missing a flight (learned the hard way before). As my father always says re getting to the airport, "if you're not early, you're late." Security lines can be long so give yourself time! I don't travel enough to do the pre-check, but I find it funny how people feel "superior" if they have it. That's cool but you're going to be on the same flight as me. Anyway, during one of my recent excursions, I was traveling with Southwest and their belt to check bags broke and the lines were very backed up. Folks were panicking, but I wasn't worried. I still had at least an hour and a half before my flight was set to board. Once bags had a tag on it, they allowed passengers to leave bags in a designated area and get through security. There are decent food options here but airport food isn't cheap. There are plenty of places to charge your phones and electronic devices and places to kill time if your flight is ever delayed or you have a long layover. read more

Be that as it may, this airport is very nice. You can now check into any security line and reach any gate. Do you realize how nice that is? If your TSA line for Delta line is too long, you can go down to the security checkpoint for JetBlue or even Southwest and see if their lines are shorter. All gates are connected after security. I would suggest signing up for the CLEAR service. I don't really want you clogging up my line but I want them to stay in business. You literally walk up with no line and just scan your fingers - escorted to the front of the security line and on your way! BWI is a very nice airport, not huge but clean, efficient and easy to get to. Their hourly parking garage is HUGE too. read more

BWI/Thurgood Marshal airport is about a 40-minute drive from Washington DC. Flights to DC are usually cheaper here than arriving at Washington National or Dulles International airport. With four concourses, it is a rather large airport but does not feel like it once you arrive. For infrequent travelers like me, there are plenty of free phone charging stations, and the food prices are very reasonable compared to other airports. It is not unusual for airports to charge you a one-hundred percent increase in food prices, whereas the price difference at BMI is around 30 percent. In concourse D, there is an indoor play area for the kids to pass time while waiting for flights, and plenty of rocking chairs are stationed throughout the airport in front of huge windows to watch flights arrive and depart. Great airport and I am looking forward to my next stopover here. read more

I've flown out of here a ton of times and surprised that I've never Yelped it. This airport is far better than DCA (DCA is domestic flights only, BWI is international). DC's pretentious garages are so pricy, far more than BWI, I recommend flying out of here. Go to Way.com to reserve parking in nearby lots and hotels and take a shuttle to BWI. You can also take the light rail if that's convenient. The airport is huge. Terminals A, B, and C connect beyond security, and D is further down and not connected to the others beyond security. The signs are clear and intuitive and personnel are helpful. Sign up for TSA Pre-check or Global Entry to avoid long lines. Overall, good airport. read more

I am a big traveler but I have travelled a little bit and I have seen airports in San Francisco, NY, Denver, etc and I must say that BWI is pretty simple in design and smaller in size compared to the airports. You won't have tough time navigating between different terminals. The airport is very accessible and they also have a restroom area for service dogs. They many restaurant options but my favorite is the green turtle. It's a sports bar with plenty of food and beer options. They also have charging stations. Restrooms are clean and well maintained. Water fountains are there in most of the places. Pretty little gift shops in the airport as well. read more

I lived in Baltimore in the 90's, when this was a considerably smaller airport (pre-parking garage!!) and even though it's gone through a substantial growth spurt over the past 20+ years, it is STILL a relatively easy to navigate, well-laid out hub, both for connections and as a final destination. Plenty of food and shopping choices if you've got a layover, and though I've never used it, there are various public transportation options to get you to downtown to Baltimore or D.C. The only "ding" I'm giving this location is that due to its growth, rental cars, which I do use when I'm back in the area, are now at a satellite location near the airport, rather than on-site. My previous experiences with the shuttle to and from the Linthicum rental car location (about 5-10 min. from the airport, depending on traffic) have not been terrible, but you DEFINITELY need to leave extra time when catching a flight out of BWI to get that whole PROCEDURE done. Not the best, but certainly not the worst airport rental car pick up/drop off experience I've had... BWI/Thurgood Marshall, especially if you travel via Southwest, is a great connection. Not too big, not too small... Just like my old stomping ground city itself, Baltimore, HON!!!!! read more

BWI is a terrible airport if you are a United Airlines flyer. Unfortunately, I had no choice as I was staying in the Hunt Valley, MD area which is only 30 minutes without traffic to this airport. With an early morning departure, I was hoping to stop at the UA Club only to realize that their is no club at this airport but they had a private lounge called "The Club" and when I googled it, I had read that they have a reciprocal agreement with the UA Club. So "not true." Also if your departure is around 6 am like mind was, most of the QSR (Quick Service Restaurants like McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts) or Grab n Go's don't open until 5 am. Their was a long queue for Dunkin to open and the opening worker there was sooo slow and she did not open until after 5 am when I was there. Hopefully this will be my last time I fly out of BWI as I much prefer IAD. read more

As someone who travels a lot and spends more time than I would like in airports, I definitely have strong feelings about high quality airports and not so good ones. Airports can have a lot of different characteristics on which to grade them. Ease of getting in and out of the facility, food quality / options, cleanliness, fun distractions, electronics charging stations and much much more. Obviously, not all airports are going to get all points right but they should make a strong attempt at some or most. BWI is tired and run down. The seating, the terminals, the food options, the general appearance are all poor. While most airports now have phone charging ports every 2 or 3 seats. BWI has a handful and they are all grouped together. I'm not sure who decided that the car rental terminal should be an 8 min ride away from the airport but it was not one of their sharper decisions. I have definitely been in worse airports but most cities are trying to upgrade their facilities. BWI seems to be stuck in AS IS. Hopefully, they will try to enhance the airport. It really needs it. read more

BWI is my home airport, and I have been to quite a few airports.....and this one is ok! The D Concourse has positives and negatives, as do most things. The positives , numerous places to eat and drink while waiting for a flight, the ease of getting around the airport, and there revery nice staff who work there. The negative..lack of updating in the waiting areas. We are a world of technology, so there needs to be outlets every few seats (as other airports have done). Come on Delta! read more

I know this airport like the back of my hand. I've been flying at least once a week for business lately. I mostly fly Southwest Airlines because I'm pretty close to Islip McArthur Airport so it's pretty convenient. The problem is Southwest stops in Baltimore for about 98 percent of the flights I take. So here's my issue. Every time I land, there seems to be an issue getting off the plane. Always an issue with the jetway. Workers aren't there to move it to the plane, problems opening the door, not enough wheelchairs or personnel to push the handicapped customers, etc. You may ask, why are you blaming Baltimore, could be Southwest issue. Well could be but this problem only exists in Baltimore. I fly out of Islip, NY, and there's never an issue. Example: always plenty of workers available to handle wheelchairs, never an issue with the jetway, etc. So I have to blame the operation in Baltimore. The positive in BWI, plenty of food choices, and as a yelpers that's important. Also plenty of "people movers ", which makes getting around the airport easy. One more issue on the negative. Not enough places to charge your phone, and several don't work. So will I still go there? Don't really have a choice if I'm flying Southwest Airlines. One day I'll review "PotBelly" in BWI. Just a heads up, it will get 4 Stars from me. read more

Recently flew SWA to Cincinnati. And had a layover it's BWI. Actually 4 layovers due to 2 RT. They have a "walking trail ". Which is pretty much walk the terminals. But it's nice that they are trying to do something to promote fitness during travel. Lots of food options. Lots of non hate seating. I only came to this airport because I had a layover. I'm sure this will always be the case. Food options are plentiful for those who have a long wait. Bathrooms, however, are atrocious. At least the ones near Gates B were. One had poop in it, the other was stuffed with bloody tissue. Sorry for the details, which no doubt prompted some awful imagery. But...my god what is wrong with people? Then it was like...even though there are seat covers, there's still something gross on the seats! After checking more stalls, I finally chose a lesser evil, but still it was disgusting. The floor was also gross and there weren't any paper towel. Not all times is this great to get in and out. Today was bad going south cause of the summer storms, but going west was a breeze. The airport has a lot of shops and some fast food & sit down restaurants to choose from while your waiting. I always fly out of BWI as it is easy to park with local parking facilities (not airport parking) and the security line isn't crazy. Overall pretty good to travel from. read more

I like everything about this airport except the traffic getting to and from and also getting in and out of it. Drive time is completely dependent on traffic on the beltway and I 83, in addition to the feeder roads to the airport. You can be stuck in traffic for an hour or breeze right through. There is no rhyme or reason but you should definitely use Waze to help navigate the traffic situation. Are use this airport because there are many destinations available from Baltimore on many different airlines. I don't enjoy driving to and from, but it's either drive or an additional connecting flight. I love the $8 per day long-term parking and its frequent bus service to and from the airport. I think this is a pretty good deal and it saves friends and family the hassle of dropping off and picking up. Security is fairly decent here and I haven't experienced much of an attitude like some other airports. Of course everything for sale with in the terminal is expensive, so try to avoid buying any food or drink as possible. Good airport. Will return. read more

Having lived in Maryland 20 years I have flown in and out of BWI Airport many many times. My office is still located in Maryland/DC and I have tons of friends there so I'm still traveling there at least a few times a year. My one complaint is having to travel via shuttle to pick up and drop off a rental car. This adds more time to the process. But at least dropping off the rental was pretty quick and we came right out and hopped on a bus to the terminal. Last year I decided to apply for TSA pre-check. My home airport in Jacksonville is small compared to BWI so security lines are not bad. But in larger airports like BWI TSA pre-check comes in very handy because security lines are always long! I waited less than 10 minutes to get through security. Lovely! I was flying Southwest out of Terminal A which had one sit-down restaurant, The Flying Dog. Enjoyed food and drinks before the flight with my niece. Bathrooms are always clean which is a plus! And lots of them. BWI is a nice airport to travel through. read more

Such a fancy airport! On our way to our transfer, I loved seeing all of the shops that I wouldn't expect to even be there. Almost thought we were in a mall! Also enjoyed the amount of different food options they had to offer, specifically on the 'inside' after you have checked in. They even had a martini bar! Water bottle filling stations available at water fountains. Clean and quite some room to sit down. There was a little bit of a walk to our next gate, but nothing too crazy (kind of) if push came to shove. Also has rocking chairs by the windows for patrons to watch takeoffs and touchdowns. read more
