No lines at 11am on a Friday... they were friendly and the lines move pretty fast. IYDK but you can keep your shoes on now! Yay!! Just be sure to keep an eye on your stuff as it can get backed up when they are screening your bags. Horrible experience. One of their testing machines gave a false alarm for explosives, so they took me into a closed room for thorough inspection VERY humiliating. I think the TSA officer was having fun. He was definitely loving his authority. I went to complain to the supervisor. She just said, uhh that machine probably needs to get cleaned. Since the end of May, I've departed BWI through Terminal D eleven times. Mostly late afternoon departures on Delta but there have been the occasional morning ones. And I can say that without TSA Precheck, you're probably going to have a longer experience here at the D checkpoint. With Precheck, it's never taken more than 15 minutes from start to finish. For the folks without Precheck? It looks like a solid hour. The TSOs are the usual yelling grumpy people that I've experienced elsewhere. No difference. I did have to check a firearm with the airline once. Easy enough - they paged a TSO to the counter and the locked hardsided box was swabbed. They did not want it opened, which is the way it's supposed to be. They do have a CLEAR checkpoint here if you belong to that system. Coincidence! This was my 1000th review so far in 2016! read more

When I fly through BWI I leave the A/B/C terminals to hit up my lounge in Terminal D. Today, at 3pm, TSA Precheck was closed at D. The supervisor would only explain that they're working on it. After pressing him, it sounded like some people didn't show up to work today. Great organization, really earning their money, huh? Huge waste of time walking down to D today. read more

What a joke. I always feel like my rights and privacy have been violated going through these TSA checkpoints. I find it offensive that they now offer paid programs where you can avoid heavier levels of intrusion. You pay them not to molest you and your stuff. I got to the front of the line, and they informed me that I'm 'pre-check' and I need to get out of line, and go stand in another line. After waiting, I followed the instructions on the signs- leave your laptop in your bag, no need to take off your shoes, etc. I followed these rules, and they still made me take off my shoes, and remove the laptop from the bag. It all seems like a farce to make you feel safer. I resent the fact that they make you give up your bottled water and hand sanitizer because it's a threat to national security. They don't let you through with liquids, but pouring out the liquids where everyone is standing into a trash can filled with other bottles of liquids just doesn't seem to make any sense. If you're worried about liquids, why let them stack up next to where everyone is getting accosted by the security? The security guards seem to be so bored with having to shout the same instructions each and every single day. The only delight they seem to take is upsetting the occasional distressed, screaming and afraid toddler that they have to run their hands over to make sure they don't have any liquids. The staff is always surly and rude, making the experience even more hectic and distressing. read more

My family and I had the misfortune of traveling through the security area of Concourse D last week. Upon arriving at Pre-check, we discovered that for some unknown reason, TSA had failed to grant my 15 year-old son Pre-check, despite me, my wife, my 16-year-old daughter, and my baby all having it. With a complete lack of anything approaching empathy, Supervisor Durant informed us that my son would have to go to the end of regular line. When I raised concerns about my son going through security by himself, Supervisor Durant proceeded to loudly berate and insult me and my family in front of the entire line. She told me that I was "unqualified to be a human being" (whatever that means) and that she didn't "have to take crap from anyone." Not wanting to separate the family, we all went to the back of the main security line, which now extended hundreds of feet past the ticketing area. Shortly after, we observed a stream of other travelers coming from the Pre-check lane. Apparently, despite the severe backup of the main line, Supervisor Durant had decided to close the Pre-check lane and kicked all the travelers who were already in line back to the main line. Without any apparent cause, the main (and now, only) line ground to a halt. Everyone was frantic as their flight times approached, but the TSA refused to open any more lines or reopen Pre-check. Adding insult to injury were the two TSA employees standing in completely empty lane, telling everyone that if we had only signed up for "Clear" service (whatever that is) we wouldn't be missing our flights right now. Eventually, the airlines noticed the lack of travelers at the gates and began sending agents out to assess the security situation. They shook their heads and reported to someone on their walkie-talkies "No, they're not letting anyone through.", and "I don't know why." Eventually they must have gotten through to someone higher up because shortly after, the TSA opened all the lanes and cleared the line within ten minutes. While we were grateful to get through security at that point, it really drove home the fact that the entire situation was the product of the TSA and that they could have opened more lanes at any time to save people from missing their flights, but chose not to. I have had some unpleasant interactions with the TSA in my time, but this was by far the worst. Supervisor Durant is clearly unfit to be a supervisor at any organization, and appears filled with contempt and animosity towards travelers. For all the lip service that the TSA gives to professionalism and courtesy, I saw none shown that day at BWI. On the contrary, it was obvious that the TSA employees, from the bottom to the top, view the public as peons who deserve only the worst possible treatment. Perhaps the best part of the entire affair was that when I filled out the complaint form on the TSA website (the only way to submit a complaint), I received a brief response telling me how much the TSA is committed to customer service, and informing me that I should have spoken to a supervisor. I have since written back reiterating that the subject of my complaint WAS a supervisor, but have yet to hear back. read more

These people are morons for not having any signage that states you must remove snacks, including candy bars from your bags. They have an agent at the belt who asks you this, so as most of us have snacks we are then forced to sift through our bags and unload. This causes a slowdown that could easily be prevented with proper signage. At no other airport have I had to place my snacks in the bin for inspection, so this practice seems to be quite unnecessary. read more

This review is regarding my latest encounter with the Security Theater troupe known as "TSA." Wow, what an amazing performance! If you are a fan of interactive theater, I highly recommend checking out "TSA", currently performing at the BWI terminal. Myself and my wife had lately been watching the news which naturally caused us to feel a bit unsafe. Unfortunately that feeling persisted longer than we'd hoped, so we googled "performance to feel safe" and came across TSA. We arrived on-time for their matinee performance which is recommended. We started out by taking out our ID's and showing them to one of the staff. They also informed us that we couldn't bring in our outside drinks. We were disappointed but I suppose that's pretty standard. Next, we were ordered to stand in a line and this where the fun begins! Not only are all the actors completely in character, but 100% of the audience members really got into the interactive performance! Nobody acted normally, it seemed that everyone was simply obeying the "security staff" with whatever they ordered the audience to do. That's a testament to the quality of the acting. They never broke character once, even after I smiled and clapped after a convincing monologue about removing one's laptop. It really helps when everyone around you is acting a certain way, to really get into the scene. It really felt like I needed to do exactly what the actors told me, or else!!! The costumes were meticulously thought-out, but it was the set props that really stood out. It seems crazy but I actually think the props are as expensive as they look. Whoever built the set clearly wanted the audience to believe that going through this line was very important, after all, why else would they create such expensive-looking props? I'm giving it 4 stars because I was hoping there would be a bit more plot and character development. I was hoping for some sirens to go off and some action scene to start, although I understand that takes away from the concept of security theater which is to make us feel safe. I once asked an actor "how are you", hoping to get response exposing the character behind the uniform, but it seemed the actors were trying NOT to be interesting. Perhaps the playwright was making a statement that modern society covers smothers our true character when we put on a uniform. The concept of the play is brilliant. By borrowing an idea from prisoner intake, it juxtaposes the feelings of captivity that prisoners feel, with the freedom that airport travelers feel. I believe the artist was trying to make a statement that humans are not truly free in American society, and by involving the audience with the performance, showed how we as a civilization choose to feel safe at the cost of freedom. Just like with prisoners obeying the prison guards, everybody in the audience obeyed the actors 100%, forgetting the absurdity of the entire production. Convincing, thought-proving, and well-executed. Bravo! read more

Ever get the feeling that government jobs go to people who wouldn't otherwise get jobs (that's called socialism people and its here). Well, that's what TSA is like in this city -- employing the unemployable. I mean really, one person scanning bags and you have to wait 30 minutes for people to come back from break to rescan a bag? When my TSA agent grabbed my bag it was with one handle and she didn't care that there was sensitive medical equipment inside, and plopped the bag down. This is my worst experience with TSA. Most time they are with attitude, but it's not that annoying. But not today when I was going through security check at BWI, MD at about 2:30pm. The officer VALENTINE was checking my bag. He had quite an attitude, but I just want him to go through my bag and I wouldn't be late for my flight. He tore my bag, broke the fabrics when he cannot open the zip. After taking out my two cameras,( I was told I didn't need to take out my cameras for X-ray), this VALENTINE claimed that my hand cream was oversized. I trusted him and said ok, without asking further questions. He took my cream away when he took my bag to go through X-ray for the second time. When he was back, I asked can I squeeze some out so it will be undersized? He said ITS ALREADY IN TRASH CAN AND HE WOULD NOT GIVE IT BACK TO ME. So I asked what size is considered as oversized jel. Turn out to be 3.5oz. My cream is no way bigger than 2.5 oz, it's about 2.2 oz. if you know the numbers, actually it will be quite a size and price for a 3.5 oz hand cream. No company produces a big pack of hand cream and Nobody would carry such a big size of hand cream around nowadays. I said is there anyway to file a complain? He said go ahead and point at the lady officer sitting at the table. She wasn't helpful neither just told me to go to TSA.gov. I filed a complaint, and within one hour, I was replied that they are following the rules. Of course they are, Because the evidence is already thrown away. Im sure they are also following the rules of hiring haters and be rude to passengers. So this VALENTINE succeeded to pass along his bad day mood to an stranger, and throw away her belongings, and is still protected by TSA because of course, who can do anything to GOV? Does this make you feel you are such a useful and great citizen, VALENTINE? Maybe this is most TSA security screeners think, that there is no expenses to be mean to passengers, because all the passengers care at the moment is not to miss the flight, and TSA exactly CAN make you miss the flight, if you don't take the nonsense they force u to eat. read more
