I've been hopping around in town between hairstylist for a while now, which inevitably leads to a range of results. After a particularly dissatisfying previous color job, I decided to go with a stylist who had recently done a great job on a friend of mine. As should be a well established fact, going off visual recommendations is always a better choice that just guessing based on online reviews (ignoring the irony of that statement in this context). Anyways, I made an appointment with Sara, who was willing to work around my schedule and coordinate to lock down a time for a relatively short-notice appointment. I explained the issues I had with my previous cut, and she readily picked up on what would be the ideal high and lowlights necessary to get back to the preferred hairstyle. I left with a very natural looking blonde that I expect will last me a good amount of weeks without streaky roots. The shop itself in in a large shopping center without many frills, but a good number of stylists and chairs and a solid stream of clients in and out the whole visit. Also extremely fairly priced, which can be hard to find with stylists in-town. Will definitely be keeping them on my list for repeat visits. read more

Adventure girl seeks local salon during gas crisis. Wishes she had trusted her instincts after seeing stylist photos on website. I was able to get an appointment on the same day I broke down and decided I couldn't wait another day for enough gas to wander around Atlanta to find the salon I actually wanted to visit. And, hell, who says local means bad? Right? So, the place is right next to a Target. I thought, in this era of conservation, maybe I should combine errands in one handy shopping center. Bonus: I already knew where this salon was. Inside, the place was a little crowded with ladies sporting the kind of hairdos that you can buy as a wig. I think the color is called "frosted". One of them with a flip version, probably called Bethany in the catalogues, was my date. She motioned me right back. She spent a few minutes consulting with me. It went something like this: "I'm in a hair rut, and I'd do anything to avoid pageant hair. Whaddaya say?" I showed her a picture of the bob that had been my companion, in one version or another, for the past year, and we got started. The shampoo girl there, by the way, deserves a raise. "Bethany" showed me a hair oil that smelled like the beach and vowed it would solve all my hair straightening woes. She cut a bob of very straight lines, without the A, but the product smoothed my hair like glass, so I couldn't really complain about all the bulk she left behind. The oil, though, was 40.00. My hair cut? I was "cute as a button". Salon verdict? Well, do you ask your grandmother to dress you before you go on a date? More importantly though, now I use Organix shea butter oil on my hair before I blow dry it... which is freaking awesome. Thanks, next door target, at 4.99. No more frizz. read more

This salon is a dump! How has the Health department not closed this place down? Hair and dust all over the place! I ran in for a fast blow out.. Once I walked in, I knew this was a mistake. The man that did my blow out smelled of smoke and talked my head off. He also did a crappy job. I gave a $2 tip. That was kindness for the holidays. A better tip would have been to tell them to close the dump of a salon or burn it down! Don't go to gross place! I would give negative stars if I could. read more

I went here for YEARS. I had more stylists than I can name, and received consistently good cuts and color. The only reason I left is because one of the sylists moved to a nearby salon, and she was my absolute favorite. It's decorated well, and is a nice salon for the prices you pay. Now, they stay BUSY. No matter when you go, they are busy, so expect a small wait even with an appointment. There is also a lot of salon chit chat and football/cheer moms that are pretty indicitive of the Covington/Conyers area, so you can expect expertiste in those types of typical "Covington Superstar" haircuts, as well as lots of experience with color. read more

I have been going to By Design International for over 10 years and have never been disappointed! Everyone there is friendly and professional. I am always receiving compliments on my hair, which I keep long with high and lowlights. I am often asked what salon I go to and I proudly refer them to this salon. read more

This salon is NOT international. It does not have a mani/pedi station anymore and they do not offer massages as one of the reviews suggests. It does have tanning booths, though. It is a small shop in a strip mall. It is crowded with as many sylist stations as can be crammed into every available space and it is loud. It is not a relaxing atmosphere or even a particularly nice atmosphere. They have some good stylists though, and the people are friendly. One of the shampoo girls is wonderful. I go there for one stylist in particular to whom I would go no matter where she were to be located. They do take walk-ins but the best stylists always seem to be booked up already so it's best to have an appointment. read more

I would not get the balayage technique from Carol Teague. When I made the appointment, I was told she had experience with this hairstyle. I showed her a picture of what I wanted, which was subtle brunette, but I now have platinum blonde framing my face and the top of my head, with orangey ends. She put toner on the ends to try to fix them. She spent the appointment talking about having to re-do another client's color; it wasn't the most professional experience I have had. I have blonde at my roots when I wanted a subtle hairstyle that you can grow out with it looking natural. The picture didn't even have blonde in it. I asked another stylist for her opinion on what I should do, and she said I should go to someone else and get rich low lights added to try to even it out, and that my hair was not even or natural looking. Also, to watch out in the future when asking for balayage because it is a new style, so many stylists are not trained on how to do it. She was friendly, and would be good at highlights because the blonde color is rich, but not what I was going for. However, I have seen Ellizabeth Richardson in the past and loved the perm I got from her. read more
