I am almost a year postpartum and can confidently state that I would not recommend this doula if you are planning for a spontaneous labor. My estimated due date was in the middle of April. One of the questions I asked prior to choosing this doula was whether there was a back up doula readily available if needed and was told yes. So, by the time I was weeks past my due date, two things should have happened: 1. The back up doula should have been on call because it would mean I would go into labor any minute now. 2. As a first-time mom, I should have been physically checked in on the moment I even HINTED at feeling contractions. Neither of those things occurred. In fact, the doula was less than 5 minutes away from me at the local hospital I ended up being rushed to in an ambulance. Instead of stopping by after being with her previous client, she went home due to a graduation she wanted to watch online. I wanted so badly to be strong like I was advised to be by this doula and my midwives, but I paid to have a doula who would be by my side and she was not. I later spoke with my midwives to understand what went wrong and they informed me that because I had a doula, they assumed the doula was with me and would tell them when it was time. So when they kept hearing from my husband and not my doula, they just assumed I was in early labor and that's why they didn't feel the pressure to tell me to come to the birth center. They were relying completely on my doula to relay to them when it was time. I am so so so so thankful to God that all is well. I am still shaken by the stories I come across where it went left for others. When we met at the hospital after the birth, she was not catering to me. Instead personal issues were raised like being fatigued and missing the graduation and there was very little focus on me and the baby. I paid for postpartum visits that were never brought up or discussed and never done. I paid in full and did not receive any form of a refund. I did reach out to her personally and received an apology. But, as a pregnant black woman, I was scared of the medical system and I invested in a doula to be there for me and she was not. Her services were not worth the investment and it has turned me away from ever getting a doula ever again. So, where she may be good for a planned c-section birth, I would never recommend her for a spontaneous labor for a birth center birth.

She helped me prepare. Her info packet was practical and asked concrete questions about pain, coping skills and post-partum issues. I felt comfortable taking her homeopathic recommendations and herbal infusions (yummy Nora tea!) Critically, she was always available for checking in. It was easy to talk with her and I sought her advice about an ongoing problem I experienced with a particular midwife. (Since she both volunteers and gives massages at ABC, she's well-known there and familiar with its routines/rhythms. This put me at ease because I was a new client.) Margaret's post-partum help with tricky nursing issues proved equally invaluable. Margaret's a skilled licensed massage therapist who specializes in Arvigo Maya abdominal work. I was bigger this time around so the last trimester was tough. Having weekly massages in my last month was such a treat. Her massages were restorative, relieved me of the constant pain and worked to center me. The birth of my 2nd son was highly unusual but through the expert knowledge and skills of Margaret and the rest of my birth team, I experienced a safe and empowered natural birth. My son was born at 10 lbs and face first, quite a rare and challenging presentation. His labor was long and slow (3 days). Once we learned his presentation, we required a transfer to the hospital. We all worked together as a team to make his birth go smoothly and safely. Throughout all of this Margaret remained calm, focused on my well-being, supportive of my decisions, patient, positive and helpful. I couldn't have had the beautiful birth that I did without the team that I had. Having Margaret as part of my birth team made for an overall positive pregnancy, birth and post-partum experience. I found her on Yelp and she was my savings grace. Always on time, upbeat, and encouraging me to sit down, relax, go nap/shower and offering me help. Upon first meeting we hit it off so well but I'm a slight introvert so her first time arriving to my home to help I was nervous and didn't really know what to expect but sure enough she showed up with a smile and some comfort for me and my kiddos. Day 1 she came with some toy dinosaurs for my older (2yo) to play with- I thought it was the sweetest gesture to think of him. We were on the fence about hiring a…read moredoula, but after talking with Melissa both in our initial interview and then later during our home visit, we knew that having her as an advocate was worth the investment. We interviewed a few doulas and decided to work with Melissa because she brought the most experience and professionalism to the job. Not only was she able to bring her extensive knowledge of pregnancy and birthing to all of my questions, she also, when appropriate, could chime in with her personal experience as a mother. While I was pregnant and after my son was born, Melissa was always available to answer any questions and address my many worries as they came up. What I have really valued was that she was proactive- she would reach out frequently just to make sure things were going ok. This was especially helpful in the weeks after birth as I was struggling with breastfeeding and being a new mom in general, and Melissa was able to be a sounding board for all of my concerns. I always know that I can reach out to her with seemingly trivial questions and have her validate my concerns, listen, suggest solutions, or provide additional information. Finally, Melissa was wonderful during the birth! When things started to go off plan, Melissa helped me think through and feel comfortable with what was happening. During the labor, I will never forget Melissa's cool hands and soothing words swooping in to calm both me and my husband. Somehow, in the middle of helping me labor, she was also able to take pictures on her phone of the whole birth, and the first moments of our son's life, that we will cherish forever. After the birth, she was there to help me breastfeed for the first time and stayed with us until we were ready to go to the recovery room. I recommend Melissa to anyone who is looking for a doula!

There was so much I didn't know about Breastfeeding, and she graciously filled in any gaps I brought to her with experience and resources. She cared for our family with excellence, and we're grateful to have her in our corner. Even her office space made us not miss home visits so much. You can tell she intentionally wanted mama's to feel comfortable whether it was for observing a feeding session, doing a weighted feed, or changing 4 poop diapers in 30 minutes - the space made you feel at home. Her course is 6 weeks long, with a 3-hour class once per week. This allows plenty of home study/practice time in between. All the materials are included in the class. In addition to learning skills which will make childbirth easier, at the end of each class she does a relaxing hypnosis, so I always leave feeling refreshed. As an added bonus, she even provides healthy snacks! While I only went for HypnoBabies classes, Stephanie also works as a doula and offers placenta encapsulation services. If you're not already familiar with these two services and you are pregnant, do some research. I had a doula present for my second child and that made a huge difference in my birthing experience. I wish I would've known all the benefits of placenta encapsulation back then too.

This was something I was putting off for 2 years due to it not being urgent and fear of having surgery but Dr. Frederick explained the procedure in detail and answered all of my questions which made me feel comfortable compared to the other 2 doctors I met with prior. I had a wonderful first time surgery experience with Dr. Frederick and the rest of my care team from North Fulton Outpatient Surgery center. I knew I was in good hands with Dr. Frederick and that he would take good care of me and he did just that. My husband & sister were very impressed with Dr. Frederick as well as he took the time to explain the procedure to them the day of and answered all of their questions. He also called my husband immediately after the surgery to give him an update on how everything went which my husband very much appreciated as he was worried himself in the waiting room. Over the past 2 months I have recommended two of my coworkers to this practice for regular GYN care and first time OB care and they both had great experiences with the nurse practitioners that they saw. One of my coworkers even recommended her sister who came back with great reviews as well. Dr. Frederick hires the best doctors, midwives & nurse practitioners so whoever you see here you will be in good hands. I highly recommend Dr. Frederick and his team for any and all OB-GYN services that you may need. They have two office locations: Roswell & Johns Creek and delivery at North Fulton Hospital & Emory Johns Creek hospital.

I've been so excited for Lacy to offer pregnancy, birth, and postpartum services to women and families in Atlanta. I also used postpartum doula Gwynne Knappe. She was wonderful to help us in the first week when we didn't have family here! Gave us some great tips for helping our baby sleep, watched the baby so we could sleep, and helped out around the house. Having Gwynne is better than having family in some ways - because knows exactly what to do and exactly what is helpful for exhausted parents! I highly recommend Lumina for any of your pre/birth/post needs!

When labs were redone the office didn't even run them because "insurance wouldn't cover it since labs were already done that year and they didn't think she would want" didn't even ask. Although ovarian cancer doesn't show up on routine labs more should have been done. I am aware the signs of ovarian cancer are common symptoms BUT as a doctor you should check all your boxes before sending someone off. If this would've been caught earlier my mom may very well still be alive.

I've been a patient at Roswell OBGYN for over ten years. I'm pregnant with my third child and…read moreconfirmed my pregnancy there in late December with a 7 week ultrasound. I told the doctor I was considering a home birth but wasn't sure since I'm 35. The Ultrasound tech said there was a tiny spot of old blood in the uterus that she wouldnt even say anything about but wanted me to know in case I had some mild dark spotting. She said I could come back in two weeks to confirm it was gone in a follow up ultrasound. I did not have any spotting and when the time came near to return for the follow up, I called the nurse and let her know I wanted to decline the follow up ultrasound (which went along with seeing the doctor to discuss it I guess). A week later, I got a certified mailed letter terminating me as a patient because I canceled my appointment and because I "have decided on a home birth". My preferred doctor was not available for these appointments and I made them under pressure. I never even saw my preferred provider to discuss the home birth choice and now I never will I guess because she has terminated me as a patient. After ten years. Incredible. I had a horrible experience delivering my first child with Roswell OBGYN and that's why I was considering a home birth. The standards of practice are intrusive and the staff are condescending, rude, and do anything BUT trust a mothers instincts. The doctors have the worst bedside manner possible and the wait times are ridiculous. Women, do not give this practice your time and money. They see you as a number and a check box to mark off their list.
