The food was amazing. Service was quick. It wasn't loud it was calm. I was happy with the portion too.

We ordered some cheesesteaks but they didn't grill anything. We expected a freshly grilled cheesesteak with fried onions but they didn't grill anything while they were making the subs. We also ordered an Italian sub and that was good overall. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed that the cheesesteaks weren't freshly grilled. Customer service overall was good. Ok, so normally when I purchased from this business I send a family member beings though I get off late,but I always buy their Oreo cookies, whatever they have left I buys them, or have my family ask if they can make some more ( which they never do) today I went in and they didn't have any so I asked if they could make some and I would purchase them all or sell me the dough and I'll bake them myself, she says "oh no none of that", which I don't understand, to me it's a win win situation, I get cookies and y'all get money without having cookies left over, at the time she wasn't doing nothing but leaning against the counter anyway, I understand it's family owned and most family owned are not as professional as corporate businesses or train their employees on customer service, I would think, if you're getting rid of merchandise and gaining profit, you are not losing, so why not bake a batch for the customer, you not losing nothing. Anyway I was very much disappointed and it's not like I live close by, so that was a waste of trip. read more

They use to have good subs but now the service is terrible! I ordered a turkey sub and when I arrived home and opened it to eat it, to my surprise it was a sub roll with a lil piece of turkey sitting on top, when I called to get reimbursed, I was told I would have to bring the sub back up to lil grocers in order to get a refund. I live over 35 mins away! They didn't offer me no discount on my next order or a refund and No apology! BAD customer service! This is the last time I'll buy a sub from here. With my review I posted pictures of the turkey sub, the lady who made this sub had to be on drugs to think that sub was acceptable! Disgusting! read more

They make a darn good hoagie for being so far from Philly! 4 stars The cheesesteak, while okay, was not noteworthy to this Philly lady. 2.5 stars Staff was really friendly. Food was made FAST. Prices reasonable; not cheap but fair. Very convenient convenience store, and Mommom's ice cream is attached, so you can grab some homemade ice cream too. The Little Grocer is a small mart but also has a sub shop within. The sub shop offers both cold and hot subs, such as Italian, roast beef, pulled pork BBQ, homemade meatball, etc. I had heard about their famous turkey subs, so I had to try one while in the area. I added the lettuce, mayo, tomatoes, oregano, and some peppers to make it as simple as possible. Honestly, the sub was just not that great - the turkey meat was kind of stringy and 'soft' in texture, where it broke apart really easily in the mouth (if you know what I mean); the bread was overly chewy. It seems as if they could have done a lot better, or maybe I expected a little bit more from this shop? There were many locals doing carry-out, though, so you can tell that this is a favorite. Staff were a little standoff-ish, but quick and efficient. Parking in the front available. A somewhat hidden gem and welcome respite in the sea of boring that is non-interstate Delaware. Driving back to NJ from VA...cop, cop, tree, tree, cop, corn, corn, weird gas station, tree, detour, lake puddle, tree, traffic light, Dover, The Little Grocer. It was honestly just what we were looking for. A small, family run place with a deli that makes a mean and very well priced sub with plenty of meat and even more veggies. It was quiet when we were there but I can imagine it gets busy at not 4pm on a Sunday. Even if you're not driving in from nowhereland, I would say stop in and grab something. There's nowhere to sit (well, benches outside if the sky is not downpouring like it was when we were there) but the friendly, attached ice cream place next door didn't give us a second look when we inhaled our food in their seats. read more

I had an event last weekend and placed a catering order of two small sub trays about 5 days in advance. First of all, the small sub tray was worth every penny and so much bigger than "small." I called in an hour or two before my scheduled pick up time to confirm my order and the gentleman that I spoke with knew exactly what I was calling about and repeated my order for me without me even asking. He was so kind. In fact, every person that we spoke with, from ordering to pick up, were so friendly!!! The subs were 10/10. We had a house full of family from out of town and everyone loved the sandwiches!..their favorite was the bread! Can't wait to order from the Little Grocer again! read more

I will put my personal thoughts aside for a moment in regards to this establishment. Some of the menu items are ok. The menu options are somewhat limited but I understand their concept of keeping things simple. The place is older in terms of appearance no disrespect intended. They offer some basic grocery items aside from primarily being a delicatessen. They have been at this location for as long as I can remember although I'm not originally from this area. Unfortunately my last experience at this place made me decide to never come back. I called in an order for pickup on evening. I would have expected them to be rather busy which they weren't at this particular time. When I entered there was another young man there waiting for an order. I walked past him and saw both of employees at the preparation counter towards the middle-rear of the store. As customers enter. They can see each person. I was never asked if I needed to place an order or if I wanted to make an order. I proceeded to get two sodas and two bags of chips. I then passed the employee behind the counter and at that point I would have expected them to ask me if I needed anything...nothing. They were both conversing with each other (indiscriminately). I went and waited in line behind the young man. One of the employees later brings the young man his order then proceeds to return to his preparation counter in the rear. Never asks or says anything to me. Another customer enters the store circles around the store and gets some items to purchase. She is now behind me in line. Several minutes pass (at least 8-10min). Still no communication from either employee. Later another customer enters the store and stands in the front near the register. After several more minutes pass the employee finally comes to the counter and asks the gentleman that comes in last if he could help him. I'm a bit stunned and appalled by what I'm seeing. After almost 15mins of no acknowledgement to 3 customers (2 of which are black, myself included and the last to enter was a white gentleman). The man asks to purchase ice from the machine outside. The employee provides the man with a key to open the machine. I then ask the employee why he first asks the customer that was last to enter if he needed help without asking myself and the woman behind me if we needed help. The employee claims he didn't know who entered last or first. If you're an employee of a business it's your job to acknowledge customers and provide assistance even if your busy you should still acknowledge the customer. I'll never be back again. I don't want call this particular employee racist but the behavior he demonstrated was racist. read more

I really wanted a cheesesteak, but it was after 7 pm and they were all out. The American and Italian subs were good. I got the boneless BBQ rib sub. I expected rib meat cut up in small pieces or shredded with BBQ sauce. Instead, a 1/8" thick piece of boneless rib was inside the sub roll. It was good! I like the corner grocery store where I could buy other items with my subs. Also, I could go next door to get a milkshake. The medium subs were a good size and they were great about fixing them the way I asked. I didn't get the combo price even though I bought potato straws and a soda with my subs. I expected one sub to be the posted combo price. I was glad the guy with the tRump hat didn't make my sub. He and I wouldn't agree! read more

Followed another reviewers glowing recommendation and went with the Italian Sub. I haven't had an Italian in probably 10 years but oh my gosh that was amazing!!! The reviewer mention hot and sweet peppers and wow those made it!!! This place isn't remotely near my home and not sure if I'll ever be in this area again but if I am I would love to try some of their other subs. Also super impressed that as a little hole in the wall sub shop/Ice cream parlor/mini grocery they have the art of properly layering a sub so that all the gooey items are in the middle and not soaking the bread. Only complaint is that the place could do with a little deep clean and some fresh paint. read more

I may have left a review already but I need to leave another if that's the case. This place never fails me! The customer service is spectacular, even when you call to place your order on the phone. Family run- mom and pop type of shop. They have all kinds of specials and deals and they always post a QOTD on their whiteboard, if you answer correctly you get a discount on your order. This place has been around for ages and I recommend them over Grocery Basket also in Dover. Little Grocer has the best turkey, they don't give you that cheap, slimy, lunch meat. They also take EBT for cold items. Downside: If they are busy, you may not have a place to park until someone leaves. There's only a few spots and it's right off of a high traffic road so be careful when coming and going. read more

I think I had the best Italian sub today in my 70 years on the planet. And, trust me, I've eaten a lot of Italian subs, from coast to coast. The sub today from The Little Grocer was, like the store itself, a throwback to the days when delis put everything, in substantial amounts, on a good sub. This sub was splendidly messy, with lots of mayo, sweet and hot peppers, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, Italian ham, and cheese. Mercifully, they provided a stack of napkins in the bag -- they were much needed. This place makes food like the little Italian deli we frequented growing up in Baltimore 60 years ago.
