Went in for an annual cleaning and he rushed me into major dental work totaling over $12,000. Coerced by threat of costly and expensive root canals. Primarily motivated financially. It has been over 6 weeks since Byrd Dental of Woodstock has not provided me with the bridge that they were paid over $3000 for, and they are upset that I have left honest updates/reviews. This was February 19, 2026 and now it is April 7, 2026 with no teeth, no refund, no results. I cannot recommend them due to ignoring patients, overcharging/improper billing, and then lying to the BBB and Kaiser/Delta Dental about their wrongdoings. If they would respond, refund the $$ to allow me to visit another dentist that is honest and charges me properly, then I would not have had to post these updates. I cannot recommend them at all, and if you check google/yelp there are many more unhappy patients. Save your $$ and your time and find a more qualified patient friendly office that respects seniors. I prayed that this dental group would be honest and transparent, but that was not the case. I know I need a lot of dental work and I'm always so nervous when I go. I was charged for services and when I didn't have enough money, the office manager sat me down next to her to apply for small short term loan to cover the entire bill. When my insurance paid out, all of the dental work was covered with the exception of one x ray. They received their money from me that day of service and they received money from my insurance company one month ago. I have yet to receive a refund. When I called today they said I had a zero balance but did not mention refund. I called them on it, called my insurance company and I WILL now be receiving a refund. The overcharge, they are NOT transparent and remind me of financing predators. I am sorely disappointed and angry! I am a widow and I don't have money to play around with. Absolutely do not use this office. They have completely botched my care, on multiple issues. We were repeatedly lied to about my costs and services. Our insurance company and therefore my husband and I were deliberately overcharged on our bills (like charging my cleanings for 4 quadrants when I have upper dentures, so they only have 2 quadrants to clean, then was told there was no way to only charge for 2 quadrants. However, a year or so later I was charged for 3 on a different cleaning. Again, still insurance fraud. Then I had wrong advice from the doctor when an Endodontist referred me back to Byrd Dental to have a 6 tooth bridge cut off at the 4th tooth, pull the tooth at spot 6, then check on putting an implant in the missing tooth spot where the 5th tooth in that bridge was. However, the dentist at Byrd Dental convinced me that the Endodontist told him he could do a root canal on that last tooth, save that tooth and gave him refi that while bridge. This of course would make thousands more money for Byrd Dental. They did point out that since they just did that 6 tooth bridge 2 years ago they would give me a nice discount though. I let them take the bridge off, prepare the teeth for a new bridge, make a temporary bridge. I made another appointment for the Endodontist for the root canal. When I got there he said there is no way he is doing that root canal and that was not what he put in the email to the office. I went back to Byrd Dental and if course they were back peddling and I was even told by the office manager that I needed to understand that the Endodontist is a specialist that I ly does root canals and I need to understand that he is not a regular dentist, so he doesn't know (of course, I wasn't born yesterday, Endodontists have to become a DDS first). So Byrd Dental had to change the 6 tooth bridge they charged me for to a 3 tooth bridge and a crown. I am having that last tooth removed by an oral surgeon elsewhere. This work was fine in mid November 2025. I have left messages numerous times for the office manager to contact me of when I should expect my refund for the over payment made when they took out the 6 tooth bridge that I did not need, because they gave me the wrong treatment plan per the referral letter. I have yet to hear back from her. Then in late December my husband had an appointment and on his bill it showed our account had a credit balance of almost $2000 that they owed us. I have left a couple ofore messages asking for a call back about the refund. Still no call back. We sent an email to the owner of the practice twice with a lot of details over the last 4 weeks, still no response. I still have a lot of trouble with the 3 tooth bridge and rough spots on the crowns they did (the 1 plus 4 last summer), basically every tooth of mine they have ever touched has been a problem. My husband's have been ok, but he doesn't like their billing practices. If your dental insurance days it covers free dental cleanings, don't count on that here. Ours did, but we rarely got out of there for less than $150 to $250. read more

My wife went into the Woodstock office for cleaning and other procedures. Before work was done, she signed the explanation of benefits and agreed to pay for the procedure. Weeks after, she received a bill for much more than the agreed upon amount after insurance paid. She and I reached out to the dental practice 4 times asking to speak with the office manager but was told she was not available. We asked for the office manager to call us back, but she still has not. We were told that Doreen would audit the charges and get back to us but after 4 weeks, there has been no response from the practice. This place is just out to make money. At the end of my visit, they refused to even do a standard clean or scraping because I didn't want to do the periodontal surgery cleaning. They literally said that to do a standard clean would be a waste of time. In my opinion, having your teeth cleaned is never a waste of time. I went to the dentist 6 months ago at Anderson dental and had a wonderful visit. The dentist there said that my teeth were fine, no cavities and no gingivitis or periodontal disease. Then I come here(six months later) and find out I have teeth that are 4s, 5s, and 6s which classifies me as having periodontal disease. I was in shock immediately because I do not understand how that could've happened so quickly especially when nothing about my diet or hygiene habits has changed. They immediately wanted to push me into having this specific & invasive cleaning that they suggested. I wanted to see the cost first, so I asked for a breakdown. They took their time for sure, and kept telling me that this was a very severe case and they needed to hurry in order to be able to help me before it gets worse. I was still in shock. They kept showing me photographs of all the plaque on my teeth, and saying this is why I have periodontal disease yet, I was there for a cleaning anyway so I expected to have some build up. The breakdown of the cost that they wanted was $1500. That was with my insurance applied. There is no way on earth I could have afforded that especially just on the spot. I asked if there was a way to get it cheaper and told them that there was just no way for me to be able to pay that. The hygienist came back and had knocked $1000 off. Now tell me how it was so vital For me to have such a severe procedure and cleaning done when all of a sudden oh it can be $1000 less and it will still be effective? They just want money. Absolutely insane especially considering the dentist who came over to see me was there for five seconds and verbally said that I have no cavities, but did not say either way whether I had periodontal disease. It was the hygienist who kept reiterating that part. The dentist wouldn't even look me in the eye. All the hygienist did was put fear mongering into me that I needed this procedure done. Absolutely ridiculous and I will never go back. If my teeth were really that bad, and this place was genuinely concerned with my well-being, then they would have at least cleaned my teeth or scraped especially since that part was covered by insurance, but they refused. read more

Well, looks like I too am a victim of "The Deep Clean..." Been coming here for about three years. Last visit I wanted yet again just a cleaning. They spent 45 minutes on the sales pitch of the deep clean and showed me what my bill would be (about $400). I said I will pass. Then they said... "Well because of our CODE OF ETHICS we can't do that..." Um, what? "Yeah you HAVE TO do the deep clean..." I don't want to... "Well we won't provide the normal cleaning then unless you do the deep clean..." Can you believe these people? I go in for a service and they spend 45 minutes on a pitch I don't want. But my insurance changed, and I couldn't go to my old dentist so I tried Byrd Dental Group. 6 months ago my gum pockets were 1's and 2's with a few 3's and 4's but mostly 1's and 2's. This place when she started calling out my gum pocket numbers she was saying 5's and 6's. Right then and there I knew something was not right. My X-ray's showed no cavities, yet the dentist recommended I get two crowns because the filings in those teeth were very large. I had those filings in my mouth for 25 years! Then they said they wouldn't clean my teeth because I have to get my gum pockets cleaned and then do follow-ups every 3 months. As the one lady was putting information in my chart on her computer I told her I was going to wait on the crowns (but was definitely not getting that done) and she said, "well when you go to the doctor please tell them you have periodontal disease" She then said "I'm really worried about you". BEWARE: THIS DENTIST IS A SCAM!! I switched insurance plans in 2021 to an HMO. I found out the hard way that the dentist I've used for the past few years does not accept HMO's. I found one that did and went there for my normal 6-month cleaning. It's worth mentioning that I keep up with my 6-month checkups and have good oral health. I brush and floss daily. I've always been told I have healthy teeth and gums except for some minor receding gums/bone loss due to aggressive brushing in my youth. I follow a maintenance plan for that. I've never heard the words gum or periodontal disease uttered in my presence by a dental professional. This new dentist did a set of x-rays and then the test to check my gums. She immediately said I had level 4 periodontal disease and worked up an $800 treatment plan for a deep scale cleaning and insertion of antibiotics into my gums to treat the infection. She took no time to ask about my dental history or even notice that my gums are healthy... Not red, puffy, inflamed, or other characteristics that are usual indicators of gum disease. I was shocked! As mentioned, I brush and floss daily, keep up with my dental checkups, and have never a gum disease diagnosis. Why would I need a deep scaling and antibiotics if I don't have an infection? Especially when this dentist told me periodontal disease is something that happens over an extended period of time, not within 6 months? I told the dentist's office that I would have to think about the $800 treatment plan and asked if I could get a regular cleaning instead. They said no... They would only perform the $800 cleaning on me. So, I left. The next day, I called my previous dentist and asked if they would review my x-rays and chart for any indication of periodontal disease. Long story short, they reviewed it. They found nothing close. I even went in for an additional exam and the regular cleaning the new dentist would not give me. I was told I have minor receding gums/bone loss (which I already knew), but no gum disease of any kind. My teeth and gums are healthy, so the $800 deep scaling treatment plan was unnecessary. After a few additional conversations with friends in the dental industry, I found that this is a common practice for dentists that accept HMO plans. They don't make money off regular cleanings, so they find any excuse to up-charge you to get a cut. I was also told that insurance won't cover the deep scaling treatment unless your gum rating is a 5 or 6. Mine was mostly 4's, so the $800 quote I received for my "treatment plan" probably would have cost me closer to $2,000 once insurance rejected the claim. At the end of the day, if I truly had any kind of gum disease, I'd be all about treating it. I take my oral health seriously and have a huge fear of losing my teeth. However, I am also skeptical of having any kind of medical treatment that is not necessary. In my case, it was not necessary. You might visit this dentist office and get a periodontal disease diagnosis. You may have it. You also may not. I hope this will at the very least make you skeptical about any kind of extra treatment plan they give you. You must be your own advocate with any kind of doctor. If you have decent oral health and this office tries to put you on the hook for $100's/$1000's of dollars, it's probably worth your time and money to get a second opinion. read more

I wasn't able to because of my work schedule but I appreciated the offer. On Friday by 9:40am I had received 3 calls and 2 text messages from your front desk wanting me to come in earlier for my appointment. I wish I could give this place zero stars. This place is a complete SCAM and I would not recommend anyone to go there. Due to a change in insurance, I had to go to this dentist office. I got there and within 15 mins I got my X-ray taken and was sitting in the dentist seat waiting to get my teeth clean. However, before I can get my teeth cleaned, they had this sales person come in and tell me I have Periodontal Disease and required a deep cleaning that cost $780, this sales speech was about 30 mins. I have been getting my teeth cleaned every 6 months for 20 years, with my last cleaning being 6 months ago and was never told I had a gum infection. Because I refused the deep clean, they also refused to do a regular cleaning. I sat in the dentist chair for an hour and got nothing done but an X-ray and pictures of my teeth. This office is a SCAM of unnecessary treatments. I have always been consistent with the health of my teeth. Switching jobs means switching insurances so I picked this one that was the closest to my area. When I went JUST for a routine cleaning, they had exam me and right off the bat they said I had deep pockets and had an infection in my gums, after that this girl from the front named Priscilla comes in to talk to me about how much my insurance will cover and what I am responsible for & it was hundreds of dollars after that they advised me that I had gum disease & needed deep cleaning & so on, then they said I need gum grafting which they made it seem like it my teeth were in very bad health. I went there for about 4 deep cleanings and every time they wanted to charge an outrage amount. So what I did was I would pay and the next day I would call my insurance they would tell me they over charged me, my insurance would call their office to straighten this matter out, then Priscilla would call me back just to ask me if I wanted to keep my extra money on file for future services I would always tell her no, I want my money back to my care credit. As you can see the frustration this caused me, I think you should GO somewhere else. There office manager is VERY rude!! I can't remember her name. I also remember when I was checking out this little old lady was being over charged and didn't understand why her insurance wasn't covering it. Hi everyone. I was a patient. On a Friday afternoon I started with a toothache. I kept getting a lot of excuses why they could not help me. I was in the dental field for 20 plus years and know how important it is to get right back to a patient if they are in pain. The answering service even told me to put Ora Gel on my tooth. First of all with an infection that is at the root tip, Oral Gel will not get to the pain. That should be the number one thing a dental practice should take care of first. Went through pure hell all weekend. It became Midday o Monday afternoon and no answer back. I finally called them and they gave me more excuses. They tried to tell me the doctor was out of town. I happen to know it is illegal not to have an emergency doctor to back you up. I will be filing a complaint with The Dental board. They do not give a dam if you are in agony or not! read more

What an absolute joke this place is, and most of the reviewers agree as well which isn't surprising. I came here for a visit because it was close to my office over 3 years ago for a regular check up. They told me I needed a deep cleaning done which would have cost a lot of $ and my dental plan wouldn't cover. I went to another dentist i knew because I was skeptical of what this lousy place advised, and how surprisingly, I just needed a regular cleaning. So I called Byrd Dental and cancelled the appointment well before 24 hours of appointment. I understand lots of medical office charges if you cancel or have to change appointments since a slot was reserved for you which they could have reserved for another... But this place is ridiculous. Not only did I cancel well before 24 hours, but they tried to get me a deep cleaning done that I didn't need.Not only that, they charged me $50 claiming I missed an appointment which I refused to pay. Sometime 3-4 years later, I get a call from an attorney today claiming I owe Byrd's dental $160. Are you freaking kidding me? I said why didn't you send me a letter and they sent it to my old address which I moved out of around the same time slot. This literally proves that byrd's dental is nothing but a scam artist. I went to the office next to Starbucks, it was the worst dental experience I have ever had. I was not numbed before placing a permanent crown. I kept saying it was hurting, the dental assistant did not care, she kept on with what she was doing and it kept hurting. When the dentist came in he told me that I would feel pain when they put the filling in for the crown, I requested a shot and finally was able to not feel pain. It seems they didn't care that it hurt or just did not know that it would be painful. In either case, it is scary to even think about going back. I will not step foot in that office again. Unfortunately I didn't see all the negative reviews until I was waiting for my appointment but I wanted to over look them since my husband went there when he was younger and loved them. My appointment started off normal with the normal x-rays but then they started giving all my teeth a rating which I had never had done before. Then the pitch happened. She said she couldn't see anything on my x-rays (convenient) but during the exam she noticed that I have had some bone loss. I found this alarming especially since I expressed to them earlier that I had finally gotten out of a major depression episode and unfortunately my oral hygiene wasn't the best. So at first I was all about this treatment plan because I figured I would need some extra work done. But the biggest red flag was when the dentist came in and he only saw me for not only two minutes and he didn't say anything about the bone loss or the treatment plan. Shouldn't something so major be discussed by the doctor? After he left the 'treatment specialist' came in. What a joke. She told me that it would be $400 for the treatment. I told her I would have to discuss this with my husband and I would call back to schedule it. I told them I would just like my cleaning for now. Of course their tone quickly changed to being annoyed with me and they refused to clean my teeth! I wasted an hour of my time with them. They explained for 30 minutes all my gum disease and infection, and how I needed the deep root cleaning. Recommended out of pocket over the next 3 visits (in 3 months) would be north of $1000. I've been getting my teeth cleaned every 6 months for over 30 years, and I've never heard of my supposed gum infections. This is a racket. Go somewhere else. read more

As another person wrote, I only gave one star because zero was not an option. I found this dentist through my insurance company's search option on their site. I've also complained about this dentist group to my insurance company. WHAT A SHAM! After being scared to death that I had gum disease and being told I needed a crown (I've never had more than a filling), I started to second guess everything. Thankfully, I went to my old dentist (too far away from where I live, but SO worth the early morning appointment) for a second opinion and NOPE! No gum disease and no crown needed for me. I will say that the hygienist I saw was very friendly. But, I wanted for 30 minutes just to get in (I should have walked out after that alone), the room I was in was less than private (HIPPA laws, anyone??), and the only poster conveniently located in my "room" was about gum disease which I was then conveniently diagnosed with. Finally, the scheduling was a joke. I was somehow mis-scheduled for three appointments that I did not make. Just another way to get money out of me when I'm a "no show". I am so thankful to Dr. Byrd and his staff! They helped me when I was in tremendous pain, even though they'd already closed and I'd never been there before. They were really incredible. The receptionist (Mickey, I believe?), the xray tech Gina, and Dr. Byrd helped me. One of my teeth had the root exposed and the throbbing was unbearably--very, very painful, so much so I could barely speak. I had never even been to their office before; my usual dentist was closed and I was in desperate need of help. Actually, Dr. Bryd's office was also closed! I got there about 20 mins after they closed. Despite all this, they helped me anyway. They were very generous with their time. Gina even had her purse and has been about to step out the door to leave for the day when I arrived. They were all very kind. I had X-rays done and Dr. Byrd evaluated my tooth. He was very detailed and easy to understand, even in my agonizing condition! They took extra time out of their day to help me, and they didn't have it. I'm very thankful. And then, they actually found a root canal specialist who was open and available! It was only a 10 minute drive. I immediately went to this office after and was treated there right away. Northwest Endodontic Specialists, Dr. Odum Richardson. An emergency root canal was needed, and help with the infection. This dentist and staff were wonderful as well. My usual dentist had told me I needed a crown on that tooth, but I didn't know just how urgent to situation was. I let it go for six months. It was too long, and I suffered the consequences. I'm not sure why other reviewers commented on out-of-pocket expenses... I'm used to that with my other dentist. I have excellent insurance, but there are still some expenses here and there. If you don't have good insurance, or you don't have great insurance, it's not the doctor's fault. (I had no out-of-pocket expenses during my visit.) Anyway, I do not know the entire situation, so I can't offer an opinion on it. It sounds like maybe Dr. Byrd is more thorough and preventative than many other dentists. WARNING KNOW YOUR INSURANCE POLICY. Dental services good but a scan on the financial end. Beware if you instruct them no to except my Insurance benefits and they said they would not. They are trying to charge me over what the policy covers. Their is more but beware you may have to consult an atty before it is over with. However the dentist is a proficient and seems to be a genuine person. But they will scam you from the financial end and try to say it was your fault. If you go there takes notes on what you said include dates, time, and who you convened the information to. read more

I had a terrible experience with this dentist. I went from him telling me I needed a crown, to a root canal, to an extraction all on the same tooth. Then he tried to charge me a tremendous amount. I got a 2nd opinion and this dentist could not believe the outrageous cost from Dr. Byrd. Dr. Byrd is ruining this private practice he bought from another dentist. My family and I have now moved to another dentist. read more
