This is more of a 3.5 star review…read more It was one of my best friend's first time in NYC and I thought how fun will it be to create our own fragrances? It's not like we have this in our hometown. Making a reservation is available but I figured we'd be okay as walk-ins especially on a weekday. Upon walking in, we were greeted and felt welcome. Our 'scent specialist' led us to the wall where there's about 11 base scents to smell and pick one that suits our liking. My friend EASILY was able to choose quite a few that she loved. I, however, struggled. Nothing stood out to me. It was either way too light where I can't smell it or way too strong and masculine. I love light florals, beachy, clean/fresh and none of the base scents were any of that. In the end, I settled for "Rae" (smells mainly citrus?) as my base while my friend choose "Reed." After choosing our base, our scent specialist started adding different drops of other scents they believe you'll like on top of your base scent. They combined plenty of different options (like over five different combos). I ended up choosing a mix of hydrangea, geranium and lilac. Sounds good to me...hey, remember I like fresh, light florals. Sadly, even with all the scents of florals mixed in my finished bottle, I ended up only mainly smelling the citrus from my base scent. This was a cool experience but left disappointed. You're essentially mixing pre-designed perfumes/scents together to make "your" blend, you're not creating a perfume totally from scratch. I've read some reviews about weak staying power. I also have a friend who made her own bottle before and also said the same thing. However, I can smell my freakin "Rae" headache inducing scent HOURSSSS later. Go figure, right? The total was about $93 and that's tax included for a 1.7 fl oz. bottle.

All of their products are neatly stacked and organized side by side from each other on the white shelves. Everything is pretty much very affordable. I like the aesthetics inside the store, giving off a comfy and simple style. I end up buying two products recommended by one of the employees working there. They accept both cash and/or card. The process is very quick. I am out the door shortly afterwards.

All products are cruelty free and known for their vegan friendly formulas. For years the only way to get product was to order it online. There are a few stores in the city so when I'm here I try to go by the store. This one's nice it's right by Bryant Park on 41st and Fifth Avenue. The sales people are very helpful and knowledgeable. Someone is always willing to help, make suggestions and tweak my daily regimen. I love this line. It's affordable, easy to use and keeps my skin healthy.

The staff greeted us when we walked in, and let us know how to smell the perfumes (they have the scents in little glasses). Staff asked me what I was looking for scent-wise, and showed me what I asked for. (I do love florals.) I was also shown the second floor which is their limited fragrances, so unavailable after the season. And when I couldn't decide between two scents, they helped me decide by determining if it was for special occasion or daily use. They also can custom make scents, which is pretty neat. I mentioned wanting jasmine, and they also showed me a pure jasmine scented oil. I just chose one of the premade perfumes. Maybe next time! They also engrave your name on the box, either English or Arabic, as a complimentary service. I will definitely be back once I need a new bottle! It's easy to see why since AG perfumes are easily the most pure in their essences and smells, with perfumes which really do smell like pure roses, or pure violets or pure orange blossoms. Mind you how those scents will smell on you will of course differ from person to person since that's how really good perfume works, it works with your own body smells creating something unique and it takes some testing and shopping around to see which perfumes will work for you personally. Personally I love smelling like roses, even if it is a bit old-fashioned. I like sticking to things you can't go wrong with so while on a spontaneous weekend trip to NYC, I decided to go check out the only free-standing Annick Goutal store in North America. Mind you, this isn't the only spot that sells AG perfumes; at most finer department stores there is usually an AG counter but I find the experience of visiting the home-store is usually more personalized. Located literally next door to Magnolia Bakery (of cupcake fame) in NYC West Village fashionably fabulous Bleecker Street, it's a small store with the entire line of AG products on the offering. The salesgirl, Rosa was really friendly and even gave me a free "Rose Absolue" candle with my purchase. Now, the only thing missing from my AG collection is the "Violette" perfume and I'm good to go. It's not cheap BUT if you really want to give yourself something special, you can't go wrong with an Annick Goutal perfume.
