I had gone to their other location a year or two prior to this event. I had a great time and I definitely wanted to go again. Finally the time had come. I booked a 3 person table for myself, my sister, and my grandmother to do something memorable, and I really wanted to try the location I hadn't booked before. Upon my arrival, we found that I accidentally booked for Saturday, June 13th, instead of Sunday the 14th. I was very distressed as my grandmother does not live in the states, so I was not sure what other time we would have to take this class together. Not to mention, it was completely my mistake so I did not expect a refund. I fully expected to walk out with no refund and no class booked, having to tell my little sister and my grandmother we couldn't make candles today. The worker there, Henry, definitely read it on my face. I didn't have to explain much, he immediately assured me mistakes happen and that he had space in the next session for us if we were willing to come back then. Of course we returned; I was so grateful for the amazing customer service and the understanding. All three of us had so much fun with Henry in the 2 PM class. He was very personable and funny; I was very happy to see he was leading our session after he was so helpful to me. Stopped in on a Wed around 3 and the place was empty. As we walked in, so did two others and the host introduced helped and our orientation began. She was warm, knowledgeable and patient as she walked us through the process. There are walls of essential oils organized according to scent family such as woodsy, florals, citrus etc. You can choose up to two depending on how well they compliment each other. I chose a scent called snow which was reminiscent of patchoulis, light sandalwood and jasmine. Perfect for my sensibilities. Next weighed out the oil in a canister on a scale, chose our container. I chose a solid navy ish blue container. Next we were given a wick that you stick to the bottom and a fudge stick to ensure your wick is centered and then it's time to pour. You can add a little pizzaz by adding glitter or dried flowers to the top away from the wick. Lastly, you give your creation some time to cool and form and label your unique scent . I called mine a A Snowy Symphony to honor the love story behind the date. He on the other hand had Egyptian Amber and Harvest Fall and called his "Nile River Night". It was an amazing date and experience. For the price, you can't beat it. As a plus, if you bring in your own container on the next visit, the price is $15 cheaper. Wick and Pour was an activity I chose for one of the events for my month of celebration. I picked a Saturday in February and wanted to ensure that all of my guest could be accommodated for the time needed prior to dinner reservations. I called and spoke with Jay, 3 weeks before my desired date. I inquired about a special event link mentioned on the website for large parties. Unfortunately Jay was unable to assist me with the link so he encouraged that the tickets be purchased ASAP. On the day prior, I called to request that my party of 10, be seated together. I was instructed to arrive 15mins early. This turned out to be poorly suggested as the venue is extremely small with no waiting or reception area. So unfortunately, we were forced to wait outside in the cold for over 25 mins, because we were told to arrive early as well as the party before us was late in wrapping up. Once we were able to enter, the ladies who actually conducted class were very polite and apologetic for the wait. Waivers were signed and instructions were given, then the fun begin. This was actually a very enjoyable activity to do with friends. We all had a wonderful time selecting our scents, the options seem limited but you can definitely create something unique with a one of a kind combination. With scents selected, the "mad scientist" aspect of measurements, beakers, and mixing begin. Our instructor Elise was clear and helpful with step by step directions. By the end we all had beautiful colored and wonderfully scented candles that we created. The night ended with a graduation/naming ceremony for our special creations. My crew and I had a great time and Elise was a great instructor and really help to mitigate the frustration of the long wait at the beginning. I've been wanting to take a candle making class for a while now and, while thinking of a fun experience to gift my friend for her birthday, I found Wick and Pour. It's a super cute and intimate space and can't hold more than maybe 10 people which is good because it was the perfect class size in my opinion. The entire process takes about 2 hours. The longest part is the setting of the candle. Upon arriving my friend and I told the host there our party name and were seated at one of the tables that was nicely set up with everything we needed to make our candles. Once everyone who signed up for candle making the session got there, our teacher step by step took us through each step of the candle making process from smelling the different oils, to picking a color, to mixing the oil with the wax, to naming our candles and decorating it. It was a really easy and fun experience. The experience costs around $55 per person with tax. It's slightly cheaper if you pick a weekday but, we went on. Saturday and, that was the cost per person. It's definitely one of the more affordable candle making experiences from the research I did, but definitely not a cheap experience but, it is a guided experience after all, so you pay for the experience, resources, etc, so I think it's totally worth it. Poor hospitality overall. The hostess was rude and inappropriate throughout the class. Our session included several first-time participants who had valid questions, but the hostess responded in a patronizing and dismissive tone, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere in the small space. What made the experience worse was the hostess attempting to make a flirtatious comment toward my partner. There were multiple couples in the class, yet we were the only couple she directed that toward. It was unprofessional and unnecessary. When the candles finished cooling, the hostess handed them out and then went completely silent--no "Have a good night," no "Thank you for coming," not even a simple goodbye. The entire group was left sitting awkwardly, unsure if the class had ended. Someone finally asked, and the hostess replied, "Yup," again with no courtesy or effort to close out the experience. She didn't even take the opportunity to promote the business. Given the other reviews mentioning similar issues, this does not seem to be an isolated incident. I needed something to do on the Memorial Day holiday and decided to make it a day of solo creativity. Wick and Pour has been on my radar since I noticed them on Instagram. I had wanted to visit in the past but the commute to their Queens location was too much for me. I was so glad to see they have moved into Manhattan. Lower Manhattan, close to Chinatown, to be exact. I simply purchased my ticket online about 4 days ahead and showed up for class. This was a solo venture. Tickets include the instruction of 1 large candle. Upon arriving, I was greeted by 1 host who assigned my seating. The space is small and a bit tight, but beautifully decorated. Includes great photo-ops like flower wall and lighted signs. We waited a bit for late comers but they do have a late policy. After a specific time, they no longer let anyone into that class. Seems fair in my opinion as the class moves at a good pace, so if you arrive too late, it would be hard to catch up. Upon beginning the class, our host (my apologies as I don't remember her name) gave us a rundown of what the experience would entail. Each table was nicely set up with all of the materials to make our candles including measuring devices, a wick, and hazard sticker. Step-by-step the host guided us toward creating the perfect candle. We had an opportunity to pick our vessels which include glass and I think ceramic style containers. We also chose out scents from a pretty display of bottled oils on the wall. You can mix and match them to create the perfect scent. Honestly, I did not like the majority of the scents. I prefer floral and aromatherapeutic scents. There weren't many and the few available were overpowering or underwhelming. Something like "fresh linen" was far from that. I ended up mixing two scents for a decent blend. After choosing the scent, we chose colors which I opted for red which actually shows up as pink; intensity of the color depends on how much you add to your candle. After the candles were poured, we had the option of adding flowers and some glitter for some extra pizazz. The whole process took about an hour. The host then took them away to allow them time to set. During that time, you could step out or stay around to wait for the candles. It was about 15-20 minutes wait, if I recall. Finally, the host did not let us leave without educating us on safety and care of our candles. The host was kind, attentive, and engaging. I also appreciated her attention to time and order throughout the event. They do sell a number of premade candles and supplies for purchase. Not sure if there is any discount for class participants. I took my candle home and used it about 3 days later. The scent isn't powerful but its long lasting, burns clean, and it's visually pretty. As the candle burns, the glitter looks like a rolling wave and the flame shines brightly. I wish I could give 4.5 stars as I was disappointed with the scents. I chose to give 5 stars over 4 because overall, the experience was great and I did walk away with a good quality candle. I think it was a good value, I just wish the scent options were better. I would definitely return and I recommend to others. It's a great experience for date night, catching up with friends, or a simply a solo adventure. read more
