We used Bytendorp Landscaping to replace our watering system from sprinklers to drip irrigation. It was a big job that involved working in and around existing trees, bushes, and different elevations throughout the yard. They did a terrific job. Their work was professional and well executed. They communicated with us frequently, keeping us informed of their progress and any obstacles along the way. We were impressed by how well they worked as a team in completing the project on time and on budget. We were happy to have a watering system that saved us money and was maintenance free throughout the summer. We also used Bytendorp for their landscaping services. We had them dig up our lawn and replace it with drought-resistant plants. We appreciated their suggestions on the best plants to use and recommended color arrangements. Bytendorp Enterprises did a full renovation of my backyard, as well as installation of sprinklers in the front. They were really good to work with - Richard, the owner, was very responsive and did a great job of keeping me informed and communicating between me, his crew, and their subcontractor. The workers on site were great as well - hardworking and considerate. Richard, his foreman, and the crew members all went the extra mile to make sure any issues were addressed and resolved. I received a bid for $1500. to do landscaping in my backyard. My other bids were around $1000, but I was impressed with the professionalism of the gentleman who gave me the bid. They did not correctly install the landscaping border and my neighbor helped me fix it. I just received the bill and it was for $3300. more than double the estimate. He explained that the contract I signed said it could be more or less depending on how much time the job took which is correct. I don't know if he is dishonest or incompetent, but a bid that is less than half of the completed project is not right. He also charged $150. for 2 bags of paver sand which I could buy at home depot for $28. a bag. Beware. read more

Richard came by and gave me a quote, but we didn't start work with him. Then he texted a week later that he was doing our neighbor's yard and would we like to reconsider, so I did. He had good design ideas but all we wanted was to level the yard and put in sprinklers and sod. The tractor he brought in was huge and cracked the driveway. He told me to expect scuffing, but the chipping was unexpected. I got free dirt from the construction in our neighborhood and paid his tractor driver the agreed upon price to do the work. Then we paid for topsoil for the last few loads so that we would have a proper base for the sod. However, when the topsoil was delivered and placed, it only covered half the yard and was as rocky as the dirt. I don't have a picture anymore of that part of the job, but I'm sure Richard does and I fully expect that he will respond in defense of himself. Anyway, he texted me for a check since he had completed the work but it didn't look complete to me. So I asked him to come over so we could talk about it. He came over and over the course of me explaining my concerns he became very upset, even angry and so I wrote the check, minus a couple hundred dollars for work we both agreed was not carried out per the contract. I want to be clear that he was not going to leave without the check or make any changes to the work he had done. He was unwilling to discuss and was quite aggressive with me. Skip ahead 5 months later and I get this creepy text from him (see picture). I am so happy that we let gim go when we did. Our sprinklers have done a better job than the neighbor's and our grass looks better. Like way better. (Our guy was Diego from Diegos landscaping.) Which is why I laughed so hard when his text came through. Then I realized how creepy that was and blocked him. And maybe I need a restraining order? read more

I had this guy do my front yard. Terrible work! I had to redo almost everything. Look at all his negative reviews. I'm pretty sure it's the only honest one's. Let me first start with the positive. 1)Richard and his team were very friendly and were able to get our backyard done quickly, so we were very happy with that. 2) The final price was lower than expected which was a pleasant surprise. 3) Richard and his crew were happy to replace a few shrubs that were planted that had died, which we appreciated. Now the negative... 1) We were sent a list of trees and shrubs that we were to choose from. When we made our selections with a clear idea of what we wanted, we felt pressured into doing things the way Richard wanted. 2) Several of the plants already looked unhealthy upon arrival. I mentioned this to Richard and he said they'd bounce back. It would be nice to have plants installed that look good from the beginning, but according to Richard, our plants were ordered when it was very cold, so having unhealthy looking plants would be inevitable. 3) When they installed our curbing, they installed it directly on top of our sprinklers. I asked them to fix it but did not hear back for a few days, so I simply took care of this myself. Our curbing was also supposed to be stamped - this was not done. All in all, we weren't thrilled with the process or communication, but we were happy with the price, results, speed and owner's diligence in correcting any issues. RUN from this company!! As you can see from many other reviews, we aren't the only ones that feel this way. Extremely rude, absolutely horrible communication, it took months for them to start our project and we constantly had to reach out to Richard, often with no reply asking about updates about our project. Very very shady company. Every little thing he can blame on the customers he will. We put in a new mailbox the day before they started and the son ran it over with a tractor and tried hiding the fact that he did. They tried putting it back together and coloring it with a sharpie. His son proceeded to say "if it was my house I wouldn't care" about our new mailbox we just put in. They did not want to pay for the damage they did. That was a hassle in of itself. I expressed our frustrations to his son and told him we didn't listen to all the bad reviews and he proceeds to tell me "we have no bad reviews, look at KSL" These people need a reality check and need to treat people better in general. The work they did was absolutely horrible. They did not fill our parking strip with enough rock, and as others have said, the new sod did not come in in many places. They charge you for way more sod than is needed and instead of giving it to the paying customer, they give it away to their workers. They are extremely overpriced and they charge you more than originally said. They do not take criticism and will turn their back on their customers so fast. Will never recommend to anyone. Worst experience and we will have to redo the sod this coming summer. It's funny how all his replies to his customers are rude and pointing blame to them. He cannot accept criticism from anyone. It's funny that they cannot clearly see MULTIPLE bad reviews on KSL, Google, yelp, etc. But yet don't see any problem? Funny thing is our mailbox is not white. It's indeed black, hence his son using black sharpie on it. And the park strip indeed was not full after completion, we are happy to provide pictures as well. HORRIBLE! First I want to say a couple things: This review is our last resort after trying to get this company to make this right!!! We hired them a couple months ago (I want to say around June?) to install some sod in this corner of Grandma's yard where she used to have a garden. She is 89 years old with dementia and could no longer care for her garden. She is also the one who paid for it, so great job of taking advantage of a little old lady guys. Now. Here's what happened: They installed the new sod. After a short amount of time we noticed it was brown because the sprinkler they installed wasn't working right. The sprinkler head looked old and most importantly, didn't reach where it's supposed to, so the sod THEY INSTALLED was turning brown! At some point, whether it was on the phone or in person, Richard stated that he would replace the sod. We called, and Richard met my Mother there, at Grandma's, to take a look. Sent his guys, who ended up just replacing the sprinkler and told us that they wouldn't replace the sod, having a good sprinkler will be enough. Well, it's not, it's STILL BROWN and Richard has now outright refused to replace the sod. IT'S LITERALLY JUST A SMALL CORNER TOO. So it still looks like crap, and we have our poor Grandma calling us every single day asking when they are coming to fix it. Like I said, she has dementia, and we have tried to explain the situation. I cannot even explain the amount of stress this has put on her. Her yard is her baby. It was hard enough for her to give up the garden. HOPEFULLY this company will see this review and make this right. We are absolutely disgusted. read more

I used Bytendorp Landscaping for one year. They did my snow removal and grass cutting. The owner is a nice guy. However, in my opinion the people who work for him do substandard work. My impression is that the workers seem like young people who have not received proper training in how to operate their equipment. For example, they trimmed too close using the trimmer, leaving the soil exposed along the entire border of my lawn. This went on for the entire summer and was bad enough that I was embarrassed to have friends visit me at my house. Another example is that the workers frequently left patches of grass uncut. At one point they brought out a huge lawnmower to cut my small lawn after a rainy day, and chewed up about 10% of my front lawn from the spinning wheels of the over-sized, heavy equipment on the wet lawn. No sensible person would have cut this tiny lawn with such heavy equipment on a good day, much less after a day of heavy raining. Looking back, all of this should have been enough for me to terminate their services. But the real deal breaker came when they over-fertilized my lawn, leaving huge burnt circles. They still wanted payment even after I complained and they admitted they were at fault. I went ahead and paid them since it was only $40 and they make you sign a stack of contracts before they will do any work, leaving the impression on me that they would not hesitate to sue me if I did not pay them for any invoices even when the work was substandard. Richard is a really nice guy and accordingly, I do hate to give a bad review. But the company and workers are substandard. My landscaping project took forever and while I was hoping for a landscaper to help design - I did it all, including doing my best to learn about every plant and what needs they had (sun/shade, etc) and then how big will they get to estimate how many I would need for a hedge line. Expected service when hiring landscape services IMO. So basically I have a dead hydrangea and an unfinished hedge line. And no, he wasn't going to take back the plants or bring back any needed to fill the line for just 1/2 plants! Oh well, I can dig a hole myself. That was annoying, but I can deal with it - after all, price was a concern for me. But when planting finally happened (late) - they didn't even back fill the trees! I nearly lost both worth about $700 because a hole was dug, they were dropped in, and nothing more was done. It wasn't until they were just about unsalvagable that we found the problem. All it needed was for the root ball to be surrounded again with dirt. Sure, I wish I had noticed earlier - but it's something I shouldn't have needed to notice. If your workers don't actually know how to plant, please do better training. The other plants were also just dug straight into grass - no actual landscaping was done. Save your money, plant your own plants because they are not a landscape design company, they're basically hired, untrained help. read more
