Delicious meal, great service and overall, an amazing time. I usually get the ribs but I wanted something different this time. We both got the steak and it was delicious. The starter salad was large and I kept mine to the side so I could finish it during/after the main meal as a palate cleanser. It was fresh and I had no complaints. The main plate is PACKED with food; we chose the vegetables and fries for sides. The sauce it comes with is also very tasty. The fries aren't like how I remember them- they used to be so good but now they're just... okay. The seasoning seemed non-existent but maybe the fries you get with the steak is different than what I'm accustomed to getting with the ribs. We had the crème brûlée for dessert and it was amazing but I was so full from the rest of the meal that my partner had to finish mine. The tea was the perfect way to end the meal too. It is on the pricier side but for celebrating a special occasion, it's a good place to go. Our waitress was extremely nice, the ambiance was more intimate but relaxed meals work too. There were several families around us and a few business dinners (from what we could tell). It was so packed that it felt like it was the weekend and not a Wednesday night in the middle of the week. I would definitely go back to this location. I hadn't been here in years but it was just as good as I remembered it and we would go back without question (as long as our budget could handle it). Baton Rouge is a steakhouse staple in Quebec. I hadn't been before so didn't know what to expect. Our surroundings were comfortable, a welcome reprieve from the winter cold. The design is what you would expect of a chain steakhouse, complete with cherry wood panelling and dark wooden table booths. The large windows and bright light fixtures gave it a more modern feel. The menu offerings were generous. For $14 and up, our meals included both a soup of the day and a side of fries with our entrees. The soup of the day was cream-based with leak, mushroom and potato. It was delicious! The soup was well-blended to an even consistency, and the small pieces of mushroom and potato provided texture and extra flavour. I had a burger, well-done. I'm not sure why all the bad reviews? Sat in the parking lot for a few minutes did not want to come in because of the reviews, decided I'm gonna give it a shot. From the moment I walked in the hostess was very friendly and talkative. Sat at the bar Ryan greeted me very friendly and asked me what I'd like, I'm a martini guy but a good one is hard to find for some reason in general and I out of the country and my element. Ryan made one of the best martinis I've ever had even at home, olives with seeds in them are out of the question at home. Anytime I'm in town I'll be back might be here tomorrow. ATMOSPHERE: It has more of a classy, casual ambiance to it. Lighting is dim at dinner time which makes it a nice romantic spot to take a date. FOOD: Always loved the food at Baton Rouge. Their baked potatoes and ribs are a definite fave for me. I also really enjoy their chicken tenders. They aren't soggy or too crunchy. Perfect texture. And they go especially well with the sauces that they come with. For the salads (as an appetizer), I definitely prefer their mixed greens salads over their Caesar. I would definitely recommend this place. PRICE: Decent prices for the quality and quantity of food that you'll be getting. There's definitely more affordable places out there. However, I wouldn't go here too often, you'll go broke fast. Maybe only on special occasions. SERVICE: Service in the West Island is always great. I've been to Bâton Rouge several times and I've never been disappointed. I love the layout of the restaurant, the service is great, the prices are fair and the food is pretty awesome. The steak is always cooked to perfection and the sweet potato fries are to die for. I've also had the steak salad which is huge and very flavorful. The only thing I've had at Bâton Rouge that I didn't really enjoy are the chicken tenders - they're 60% fried dough and 40% chicken, most people seem to like them though. Disgusting ribs 23$ but amazing calamari 14$. Uber Eats Delivery. Watching it, took the restaurant under 10 min to prepare my order and the driver around 10 min to bring it to my house. This was ridiculously fast! I thought it was awesome until I received the food. The Calamari was amazing. The texture inside was nice, the outside was only a little crispy and I figured it was due to it being described as a thin crust and the heat inside must have dampened the texture during delivery. I really loved how they added freshly chopped tomatoes & chives that tasted really fresh. Haven't had calamari like that before and I would have given this dish a perfect rating, but I have to take into account the main dish I ordered too lol. They even over endulged me by including A LOT of dipping sauce (2 kinds: classic marinara & siracha mayo). For the amount of calamari given, I could have easily gotten away with just have the portion of sauces and still have left over sauce, so I hope that's not pressing on their budget. I also found it interesting to see dried bay leaves coated in the batter, as I've never seen anyone fry those up too. It was soo good! I loved them so much. The hot cinnamon apples were just ok. Interesting option to serve with the ribs, I just had it as a desert. The flavor was decent, but the texture was lacking. Not bad, but not amazing either. Would be worth keeping and improving on. Wild rice as my second side dish... these were really overcooked, as if the rice absorbed too much moisture, I guess they didn't time the cooking right, because it continued to cook inside the packaging. Flavor was more on the bland side, but I guess it was supposed to get it's flavor from the rib sauce. The ribs were DRY. It's a nightmare for rare lovers. The texture was stringy and stuck to my teeth. The sauce had a burnt flavor to it, was so bad lol. The cut of meat was mostly BONES, very sad, and a very cheap/low quality cut... fell off the bone, sure did, but god dam it was horrible all over x,x not worth it at all. I liked how they included some aluminum on the bottom of the styrofoam containers, I imagine it helps preserve heat during delivery but I think they forgot to take into account the humidity of the food and how it continues to cook after it's taken out of the "kitchen". The paper packaging with handles was a nice classy touch, which was what I expected from this place, but like I've noticed 20 years ago, the quality of food is still a hit or miss. Very dissapointing. Looking at the preparation time, it looks like they're applying "fast food" techniques which doesn't work on this type of food. I've been to a few of this chain's establishments. But this evening's experience was pretty terrible. The chicken tender's were fried in colder oil which made the batter extremely oily, leaving a film in our mouths. The waiter was more concerned with getting his pals a funnel to fill an empty glass water bottle with discounted cinq-a-sept drinks they bought as a to-go option instead if tending to our table. We sat there for 15 mins watching him hover in front of the booth to hide the childish liquor stowing to then have him run back to the bar to tend to other neglected clients. When i told him that his big tipping clients just got into a van after putting back a half a dozen Moscow Mules and a to go bottle he said, "don't worry they didn't have that many." We told him that it took them several tries to just back out of their parking space, we got an "oh?" Food has been better, service pretty bad, likely not going to return. read more

I now have a love-hate relationship with this place. *sigh* The first time I went back in 2005, I was impressed for a few reasons, the first one being that a nice, high end restaurant would be in the West Island, and that it would do well. So when I planned my visit to Montreal just a few weeks ago, my sister and I decided this would be a great place to get together with my dearest MTL girls. We made plans for 20 and gave them a month's notice. No problem. 20 people, on a Friday night at 630. Awesome. LOVE. A few days before the event, they called my sister (who was the main contact since she's local), and told her that we needed to vacate by 830. That's when they lost me. Are you EFFING KIDDING ME?! I bring you 20 people for dinner and drinks on a Friday night and you give us a two hour window? ... it's almost as if they hate money or something. My sister told them that it was ridiculous and that we couldn't do that because of potential late arrivals and you know, the fact that this place is pricey and we were putting down good money. HATE. We arrived as scheduled and when we got there, the tables were ready to go. We were seated and everything was great as my guests started to arrive. LOVE. Until it was time to order, when our waiters were MIA. And so went the night, highs and lows, including when the food came out fast (LOVE) and when a few guests were late, the staff asking us to consolidate tables (HATE). We did stay past our 830 "deadline" - but as the night went on and we wanted dessert, coffee, tea, etc, it was such a pain to get a waitress (HATE). I know, I know: TL;DR -- this sums it up. If you're going to grab dinner, this place is fine. If you want to host an event here, don't. Not a fan. While the ribs and steak may be great, I can't say; stay away from the seafood. The first time I was there, I ordered the Ahi Tuna, safe bet as all that needs to be done is proper seasoning and a kiss from the grill. Second time, same thing - Ahi. It was good. Third time, I figured I would try something different; bad, bad mistake. Calamari and shrimp, supposedly grilled. They were overcooked and rendered inedible. The Calamari had the consistency of rubber tire, the shrimp was tough and almost tasteless were it not for all the oil that it was floating around in. It was horrendous. The type of oily that leaves you nauseated. I sent a letter to their head office and to their credit, they sent me a gift certificate to try again. I tried again, last night. The "special" was Mahi Mahi. I love Mahi Mahi. My companion and I ordered the Mahi Mahi. He ordered his blackened with Cajun seasoning and I ordered a simple grilled offering. Half my fish was relatively cooked, the other half was almost raw. His was cooked but was far from "blackened". We had a third dinner companion who ordered the ribs and was very happy with them. I won't be returning to Baton Rouge. I believe that when something is offered on a menu and/or announced as a "special' that the kitchen is capable of delivering a properly prepared dish. If you plan a dinner at the restaurant, apparently, you are quite safe ordering the steak or the ribs; I do not recommend the fish or seafood, with the obvious exception of the Ahi which is, frankly, rather hard to screw up. read more

I ordered the PICANHA STEAK 8 OZ. the menu said "Grilled picanha steak seasoned with our signature spice blend. Served with seasonal vegetables" My complaint.. The steak had so much connective tissue and so was very hard to cut let alone eat that I left almost half (after trying to eat and then not being able to swallow). It was definitely not tender as noted below in the menu. I was not expecting a filet mignon but even something like a flank steak would have been more edible.. The vegetables were not cooked enough. I like my vegetables somewhat hard but this was almost raw.. I was honest with the server. I usually shut my mouth but this time I couldn't. When our bill arrived I expected to have a discount since 1/2 of the steak was not consumed and I had left all my veggies. I did eat 1/2 of the potatoes. I was charge full price. Baton Rouge West Island is the tastiest of all other Baton Rouge restaurants. The classic are the ribs. Its impossible not to like them. I also like to order the small caesar salad. Potato soup is pretty good if you like thick soups. Please bring back the key lime pie!!!!! Enjoy! read more

Well, the soup was Ok. For a restaurant that calls itself a 'steakhouse', I expect a descent steak, cooked at least close to how it was ordered. I ordered a NY Strip rare, which arrived med.well. I'm not in the habit of returning food, but for $34 I returned it & consequently had to wait another 20 minutes for it to be replaced. This one was med, so figured that was the best I was going to get (a small over cooked steak). Disappointing to say the least. (This was on Christmas Eve, it seemed decently busy) To start, I had a Lobster Poutine and I found it very bland. The fries were absolutely nothing special, as if they took a batch of old Mcdonalds fries and made it into a sub-par poutine. It wasn't very hot either. I then had a Chipotle Chicken Sandwich, and it was pretty tasty and well-put together, a bit messy, with a mountain of average coleslaw. The amount of fries that were on my families' plates in comparison to the food itself was a bit ridiculous. As a cook I know that it's sometimes hard to keep consistency with certain things, and I think working there seems like it would get a bit crazy in the kitchen. I'll go back one day. read more

I have eaten at many Baton Rouge restaurants as well as this one, in the West Island of Montreal. The restaurant has gone down in quality over the years especially the lunch menu. I ate Asian chicken salad, and the nastiest vegetable soup I have had in my life. The salad and chicken felt old, and dare I say rancid. I felt a little sick afterwards. They should remove the Asian chicken salad with the peanut butter sauce immediately. The vegetable soup was unappetizing. Aside from this the food at lunch is generally served cold and declined in quality. The little new buns that they use really don't like it, and potato soup is served cold, despite me having to ask to have it heated before serving. Generally lunch at Baton Rouge is not worth it anymore. They use to be really good at dinner time, I don't know have multiple bad experiences for lunch I just decided not to go anymore there. read more

While this is a "franchise", so to speak, its still the best place in the West Island for a celebration with a steak or ribs, without paying through the nose outrageously. The prices aren't cheap (a la Moe's Deli) but they are what you can expect from a higher-end steak house. The ribs are worth it too, and don't forget the all dressed basked potato which this establishment has mastered. I have never regretted a meal eaten there. Also a note for allergy sufferers, the fries are cooked in peanut oil, but they are very careful and sensitive to this allergy. Just let them know you have one when you order. read more

I really don't like to leave negative comments but the terrible/rude customer service at the front desk and answering the phones at this Baton Rouge tonight leaves me no choice. The girl who answered the phone had the tone of someone who was receiving a telemarketing call during a family supper. My question was simple, do you have a table for two available. She said that reservations for 3 or less were not possible. Once I went in, I was given a pager with no other option but to wait for a table standing up. After fifteen minutes, I decided to find a different restaurant and brought the pager back to the girl at reception. She raised her voice at me saying that I had only been waiting fifteen minutes and that I could wait longer. I mean I have worked in customer service long enough to know customers aren't always right but that part of our job is to make them feel heard. This girl at reception tonight at Baton Rouge switches the roles up and acts like an arrogant and rude customer forcing a classy customer to act as she should. Too bad read more

Not when so many restrictions are spelled out during reservations such as " if your group is not all here during seating, you will lose reservations" or "if you're a few minutes late, you will lose reservations ". Pretty much everybody from Montreal have been to Baton Rouge which is a Cajun, Texas, American cuisine. It's a Franchise that came here over 10 years ago. I've been there 3-4 times, each time I was happy with my meal but angry with my tab. Maybe I'm picky but when I pay 50$ + and I got served some fries, I want some REAL HOME FRIES not some Frozen Home Fries. The burger are alright but pretty much the same thing you'd get at any american Diner but for 15$. The ribs (full rack of baby back ribs) are amazing and the meat is tasty. That's the best thing in Bâton Rouge. The desert are pretty good too but overall, it's pretty expensive and it gets to a point where you're thinking: I should go to FortyWestt and pay the double for some Real Quality. read more

I was hesitant on this place because of the reviews, however I went anyway on the recommendation of a friend. I had the ribs and shrimp which were very good. The shrimp may have been slightly over cooked but not bad enough to raise a fuss over. The ribs were good and the sauce was excellent. They could have been a little bit hotter, but they were still warm so no big deal. The Cesar salad was good and the waitress was very friendly. Overall a good place to eat.
