Very fancy looking on exterior and interior, but casual atmosphere for dining with tons of tables. Great for large groups and small families. Seats in large private courtyard or inside. There's also a small bar area to sit at. Food was delicious and best we've had for our 1st week in Germany! Poor rating was for the following: Waitress forgot wine order for half of table and when asked about where glass of wine was for one of our guests she said she forgot it. It still took about 10 minutes after she was reminded for the glass of wine. Main course took over an hour to get after ordering! They were extremely fast with kids meatloaf and brought it already split on two plates, which was awesome! However, kids finished and were tired and it wasn't until about 45 minutes after the kids finished that they brought our main courses. While we appreciate the kids order being fast, it doesn't help if the kids have to wait 45 minutes for the rest of the table to even get their food and then time for them to enjoy the meal. When they brought the kid dish they brought a cheese appetizer that was ordered but the main dishes we think got lost in the shuffle with a huge party that came in after us. Food and atmosphere were great! Service slow.

As a disclaimer, this is the viewpoint of a non-German tourist and while I enjoy German food, it's not mother's milk to me, and I am not an expert on the cuisine. That said, I found this Weinstuben to be the best restaurant at which I've eaten on my various trips to Germany. My wife and I ordered from the more contemporary menu (they seemingly have two: one with more traditional dishes, and one that is "modern German/European"); this was partly because we wanted to try something different and take a small break from old school biergarten or wienstuben fare. The interior is very attractive, and a mix of 16th century winecellar interiors with modern touches, like LED tracklights, modernist tables and chairs, etc. The combination is quite striking and sets the tone for what you can expect. My "Back of Roebuck with Cherrykraut and Schupfnudeln" was excellent. The venison was tender and rich without being gamey, and I very much enjoyed the twist on Sauerkraut as it was milder, and a bit sweet. My wife's Pan Fried Salmon with Ricecream, mediterranian Vegetables and Basil foam was also quite good. We also shared the Spargel (Asparagus) Franconian style. The server was very willing to put the butter on the side rather than on top of the dish so that we could control that -- which was nice. As a special mention, the servers were universally all very nice. In general, we found Würzburg to have some of the friendliest, most open people of any German city we visited. The dessert wasn't quite as good, bordering on mediocre. Part of this is that I suspect we received the wrong item. We ordered the Tarte from White Chocolate and Strawberries with Woodruff Foam. After eating it for a bit, the wife and I came to the conclusion that what we were really eating was the Curd Dumpling with Compote from Strawberry and Rhubarb. I will say the presentation was beautiful. The Franconian wines are products of the Bürgerspital wineries, which we had sampled earlier and were quite good -- if a bit stronger than we are conditioned to for wine. I will mention that this restaurant is a bit on the pricey side when compared to the stalls in the market, etc. However, as I said earlier, if you are looking for a change of pace from super traditional preparations of German/Franconian fare, this is a great option. It didn't seem to be that widely frequented, not even having an entry here on Yelp!, despite being a Michelin guide restaurant and seemingly having received numerous awards from both culinary associations and Würzburg itself.

Tiramisu with rhubarb. The individual components were good but it didn't work together as a concept.

The service from Alice was excellent but the food was just okay, overall. I loved my vegetarian spring roll with sweet potato mash - rich enough to be a satisfying meal. My husband rated his burger as a 7/10. The beet and goat cheese starter was fine, but not exceptional. The bread and fresh curd was okay but not great. We enjoyed the atmosphere and our wine choices and would go back for a drink, but probably not a meal. Nothing "wrong" with it, just not exceptional for the price.

The food here is very good and the atmosphere is pleasant. They also have a courtyard where you can eat when the weather is nice. The wine is great. Best Erdbeerbowle that I've had.

After having Pork Shoulder as a staple in our vacation in Germany . I must say this was the Best crispy style I have had . The gravy was spectacular! The wine is a local wine and it was soft / medium body . Went well with the dish . No desert as we will walk around and perhaps have an expresso elsewhere .

He was excellent at explaining the menu, offering suggestion and really made our dinner memorable. As far as food goes, everything we had exceeded our expectations. The chef here is notably involved in the slow food movement, so the majority of ingredients are locally sourced and organic. Each table received a variety of different breads with two accompanying spreads, one sweet, one savory. We also had one appetizer that was trout three ways and each was completely different from the next. Additionally, we had game sausage two ways, one was just a simple link, the other prepared in a light broth. My dinner consisted of a whole fish (ordered by the gram), roasted parsley potatoes with garlic butter and a huge side salad. The fish was prepared in the "blue" style which was simply broth and herbs, topped with shredded vegetables and a twist of lemon. It was phenomenally simple and truly showed off the flavor of the fish, which our waiter informed us was locally caught from a small, exclusive pond. For Americans, the idea of organic, locally caught is just catching on, so its refreshing for the chef and waiters to know the suppliers and producers of every ingredient which they present. I also tried the rump stake one of my company ordered and it was cooked perfectly. We even received a free dessert which were chilled pieces of dense chocolate cake served on a stick, lollipop style. Even though this was our most expensive dinner in Germany, the prices were more than reasonable for the quality of ingredients and the exceptional service provided.
