Now, I'm not giving the store itself a 5 star but it is up there, with the experience I've had. I recently, took the CCW class with Bill Bryant, I had a really good experience. My wife also took the class at the same time, she had a good experience as well. NOW, we where recommended from David over at Wild Bills, I can't say enough of how a good teacher and how patient Bill Bryant was. I forsure recommend his class. read more

I love love love feed stores. So, in all honesty my review may be a weee bit biased. But let's get to it anyway. I saw this feed store from the road and the storefront got me to pull into the parking lot all by itself. Rustic, western, and very small town welcoming. Inside the store you will find a wide range of western wear, work clothing and footwear, tack and feed, as well as firearms and garden wares. If you do anything outside like camping, hunting, raising livestock, or gardening, this place is a great place to start looking for what you need. They have a wide selection of name brand and up and coming brand names in all departments. Every area of the store sticks with affordable prices so that you can get what you need and still have some left over to get those ever present impulse buys. Try this place. My experience is that they have a great selection of items, and pricing is comparable locally. The manager who controls the online ordering pickup (name starts with M, can't remember at the moment) is very friendly and beyond helpful when it comes to anything in the store. My only complaint is that some employees need to be a bit more knowledgeable when it comes to basic items while assisting over the phone but that's something to be learned over time. CAL Ranch just unleashed their rewards program which makes shopping there even better than other stores I used to shop at. Overall, they keep our goats happy and healthy to which we are so grateful. read more

I purchased a new shotgun last week at the Carson City store. Two employees John and James were at the counter. They were Very Helpful, Knowledgeable, Friendly and over all pleasant to deal with. Super friendly people. Drove out there from Reno to pick up the last Coleman mini bike they had. The manager (Michael) was very helpful in making sure it was setup correctly and ready to go. Things took a bit longer than expected, but the service made up for it. read more

Called at 4:00 Sunday to verify the time they close today. The lady told me 9pm, so we headed down. Got there at 5:15 and the door was locked. They closed at 5! Waste of time and gas. The cashier walking out told me they were open until 9 tomorrow and to come back then. I live 2 hours away, just happened to be somewhat close by. Very disappointed. read more

Bought a pair of Wrangler jeans last week there, found what I thought was my size (35/34) and upon checking out was told the register was having a problem and couldn't give me a receipt but if there was a problem just to bring them back no problem. Well the pants were miss marked as they were way smaller than marked. Problem was I took off the tags before realizing the size didn't match. Took them back to exchange for the correct size and they wouldn't do it without a receipt. Moral of the story don't leave that store without a receipt even if they have to hand write one!! Now I have a pair of Wranglers I'll give to a kid I guess.. also probably won't shop there again. read more

I live in Reno and love stopping in and checking out the clothing department they always have a great selection of riding/work jeans and boots. I am very dissatisfied with the service here at Cal Ranch. No one helped me with what I needed and the only one who did, smelled very bad. Almost like a pee type of smell. Maybe teach your employees some hygiene. read more

Cal ranch is indeed a store loaded with many cool and useful items... One area I like is the Montana Silversmiths Jewelry case...They had some tremendous mark downs in that case before(!) Christmas. 2 employees at the firearms counter and 1 in the general area. No greeting or acknowledgement as I walked back and forth shopping at the counter and they only had 1 customer. Maybe not European enough!?? Only one fellow Veteran greets me but I guess it's a veteran thing. read more

I have been in this store several times in the last several months and two times in the last week and I am extremely disappointed. They have many empty spaces where horse tack should be. I inquired about it last Saturday and two different employees said they are re-arranging the horse tack and will put it back up starting Monday and will be finished Tuesday. I went back late Tuesday and nothing had been done. Still empty walls. I talked to another employee and he said there was a change of plans and they will do it on Thursday. He asked me if I wanted him to confirm the date with another employee and I said no thank you. I went over to The Tractor Supply and bought my supplies I needed. Plus Tractor Supply's prices are much lower than CALs by far. I do not plan on going back to CAL in the future. read more

When I first walked into C-A-L, I thought I was out of place, and that I should probably have spurs on my boots. But the everyone was super nice. I spoke to Bill, who instructs the CCW course. What an awesome man! If I had kids, was Catholic, and was into that sort of thing, I'd want him to be my child's godfather. This place has the best prices for guns. Well unless you want a .22 caliber AR, then go to Big 5. But seriously, no one wants that. read more

Love this place! They have everything! We don't live near here but have been several times when passing through. I would say though that the customer service could use some work...which is why the 4 stars. It was hard to find help and the cashier didn't engage in conversation with us this last time. Place was very clean and very organized. The only Draw back was at checkout was there isn't enough checkers we waited 18 minutes to be checked out then it felt very slow as the man rung of our merchandise. But I would definitely go back they have a lot of items you can't buy anywhere else. read more

This place reminds me of the stores one finds in small towns of Canada. One can buy a fancy necklace for the woman in your life to a fancy diddlybob for your horse. I on the other hand bought fertilizer stakes for my trees, something you can by separate piece here as apposed to being forced to buy in bulk at other similar stores. I enjoy just walking through this store just to look over things one does not see at most stores. Nice and clean while well lit with prices easily found and for the most part well priced. Hours aren't the best, good ammo selection, and lay away on firearms is always a great option. Sometimes customer service isn't the best but definitely an A for effort. Boot selection is not as great, I bought a pair of Ariat sierras last year for work, would love to buy a pair of dress boots from this store also. drove south 30 miles to pick up an item i normally buy online. at the counter, i asked where i would find it. she not only had no clue, but instead of getting me the right location, she winged it, sending me to the farthest corner of the store. not finding it, i asked an 'al borland' lookalike and he took me right to it. 2' from the lady i asked originally. her attitude/aptitude grew worse through the checkout process. i probably would go back because i saved $20, but i won't be recommending the store to anyone. read more

Absolutely garbage levels of customer service. Run of the mill items (hats, boots, belts) at huge markup. Asked "Do you price match?" Told yes. I had just bought a hat at Tractor Supply for $25, found the exact same hat in white in my husband's size $50. Refused to price match at the register. Skip this place folks. They don't carry anything worth their prices that you can't get everywhere else for much less. read more

Probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life, guys at the gun counter are absolutely pathetic, Being a petty asshole seems like a good way to treat a customer spending hundreds on a firearm. I always choose the local options to do my shopping at but from now on I will take my business elsewhere. The staff is not knowledgeable- especially regarding the poultry selections & if you are in need of assistance be prepared for a staff member to look you in the eye and turn around and walk the other direction. This store is outstanding, from the customer service, to the selection of products available; all the way around. Mike, the store manager, goes out of his way to give extra care to his customers, going above and beyond the call of duty in operating a tight ship and defending his fellow Americans. Well stocked shelves, clean, and organized. Were other local supply stores lack, this C-A-L ranch comes through every time. All that is missing is cigarettes, beer, and a butcher/small grocery; that would make this store my one stop shop. And a lumber yard would be nice too! But all jokes aside, I will go out of my way and drive the extra miles to visit the Carson City location in an effort to support the team that works there. Our family frequently shops here and we have never had a sub-par experience once. Very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Thank you all for your outstanding work and dedication in creating a very enjoyable destination shopping experience in our community. Much needed and appropriated. The store managers, store owners, and employees of businesses in Carson City need to take notice of how a store should be operated, kept, and how store associates should communicate to customers by the example that is set by this C-A-L Ranch store. I was in the store yesterday and noticed the baby chicks in all but one container had either empty water systems or the water they had was filled with soaked shavings and there was absolutely NO water available for these tiny delicate new chicks to drink. I'm very disappointed with this store for being negligent with live animals, especially ones so young and in need of water after being shipped in. Please take better care of these little new chicks. read more

Being a horse mom for 50 years I'm pretty picky where I shop for feed..Cal Ranch has it all..the part I like best..its inside on shelfs where you can browse, read labels..shop prices..(which by the way beats the competition by a mile!) they know their product (you would think anyone working in that type of store would..but have you been to the other feed stores? Not so much) They have a little bit of everything..including a great selection of men's, women's & children's western clothing (who ever their buyer is has great taste!!!) Given up on customer service? I had..but Cal Ranch stands behind their products 100%..with a SMILE! I live a bit of a drive away..Gus took care of a problem I had OVER THE PHONE instead of the usual..come back in and we will help you!!
